I'm not sure Palin will even run. (How about the normal tea party people, or are we all kooks? It's not clear to me what is kooky about not wanting huge corporate bailouts. The contrast between the TV coverage of the anti-Bush demonstrations and the anti-Obama demonstrations has already been analyzed. At least you didn't say "tea-baggers".)

She has a lot of conservative support (although I suppose you categorize those conservatives as tea-party kooks also), but she is almost as inexperienced as Obama was when he ran for president, and we see how that turned out.

It will be Palin. She has support from the evangelicals and the tea party kooks and some conservatives. Huckabee seems to have fallen out with everyone, although he's most likable of the bunch. Romney can't win, but I think he's the only one who can beat Obama (if that's possible, which I doubt).

There are potential unknowns lurking in the waters that we'll see poke their head up after November.

But I think it's going to be Palin and that will be almost too perfect. Hopefully Obama doesnt act like Coakley if that happens.

I think Huckabee has basically lost conservative support.

Romney failed because he had no regional base. I know some evangelicals would not vote for a Mormon, but I think others would support him. (Heck, even I think Mormons are Pagans. But nice pagans.) I don't know that he would get more support this time, but it would be nice.

I can't wait for the 2012 election cycle to begin, which in Iowa, will start in a year from now. I think it's going to be a real hatchet fight during the Republican primary races because the Republicans see that they can defeat Obama. I think Huckabee will run and get into a real hair pulling contest with Sarah Palin (they have the same right-wing Evangelical Christian base). Romney, Tim Pawlenty will be the center-right candidates and throw in a couple of moderate Midwestern congressmen and its going to be a free-for-all. My money is on Romney, mainly because he's got the most money. Plus it gives me pleasure to think a Mormon gets the nomination which will a real slap to the right-wing Evangelicals. Danon has tied his hopes in Huckabee to a falling star who will plummet to Earth very quickly.
