Pro-Israel Celebrities

With yet more celebrities coming out against Israel, now seems like a good time to publish this post which I have been working on for a while.

Below is a list of celebrities (dead and alive) who were/are either definitely pro-Israel or have somehow been associated with a pro-Israel cause. Where there is an article proving this, I have linked the celebrity’s name to it. Where an article lists many such celebrities, I have included it under General Sources after the complete list of names.

Note that this post is designed to be a work-in-progress, and not a complete list of pro-Israel celebrities. If you know of other pro-Israel celebrities, please leave their names in the comments, as well as a links to proof of this, and I will update the post accordingly.

  1. [...] (Israel time; most recent at top)5:24PM: I’ve worked on perhaps the web’s most definitive list of pro-Israel celebrities.2:42PM: Terror supporter and potential Biggest Loser contestant Lauren [...]

  2. Bubbe says:

Excellent! Many thanks for this list.

  3. willow says:

Not to forget Bob Dylan – for much more than just "‘Neighborhood Bully’…

  4. Michael Zvi Krumbein says:

In the old days (see the book, The Borsht Belt) there was a fundraiser for Israel called Night of a Thousand Stars. It had all of the comedians, for example. I will look around. We really need to get Lebanese Christian Danny Thomas in this list.

  5. Abu Zibby says:

Is everyone who is no an out-spoken Israel critic/obscurantist/enemy on this list?

    • israellycool says:

No! As I wrote below, my criteria was either speaking out in support of Israel or being associated with some pro-Israel event. It takes more than not criticizing Israel

  6. Michael Zvi Krumbein says:

How are you defining celebrity? If you include Glenn Beck, then we can pull in every major radio talk show host, starting with Rush Limbaugh.

  7. Jim from Iowa says:

I'm a little uncertain of the criteria to make this list, too. I'm a regular Howard Stern listener and my feeling is that he is definitely pro-Israel. Howard Stern is not particularly political. But he does take strong exception to Islamic terrorists, declared enemies of Israel like Hamas and Hezbollah and called Helen Thomas a dirty old c*nt who should move back to Lebanon or wherever old anti-semites go to die. Does this count as being pro-Israel?

    • israellycool says:

My criteria was either speaking out in support of Israel or being associated with some pro-Israel event. It takes more than speaking out against terrorism in general or not criticizing Israel

    • walt kovacs says:

stern tries to stay apolitical when it comes to israel…and he has stated in the past that he thinks jews are nuts for wanting to live surrounded by arabs

    • Michael Zvi Krumbein says:

To say I am no fan of Stern's is putting it lightly, but he is certainly a celebrity.

  8. Samson says:

Bernie Mac passed away in 2008.

  9. Jim from Iowa says:

Wait a minute. Isn't this the way the Nixon's Enemies List got started?

    • jpl says:

I'm not sure if you are kidding. If not, then this is very different. This is a Friends List, compiled by ordinary people not by government officials trying to use their official powers to harass their political "enemies."

      • Jim from Iowa says:

This is the story of my life; why I became a government bureaucrat and not a writer on Saturday Night Life. This was an attempt at humor. Geez, nobody gets me!

        • Michael Zvi Krumbein says:

I am sure you are funnier than SNL was for a large portion of its run. (Admittedly, that's not saying much. :-( )

Some political jokes are funny even if you disagree with them (Tim Russel (?) in Buffalo). Others are only funny if you agree with them (my best example of this was Dennis Miller on SNL – but now he doesn't agree with himslef either!)

  10. jpl says:

Thanks for compiling this list-in-progress. I was quite dismayed to see Ed Asner come out as supporting the boycott of performing in the "West Bank." He's been around and should know better. Tony Kushner is less of a surprise, but he too should think about where there is tolerance and where there is hostility, and realize that he should be siding with Israel.

    • walt kovacs says:

asner has spoken out against israel in the past…hes another confused lib

you can trash most of this list…the fact that lydon is on there is enough

i will gladly sick lydon on all the 150 nobodys and used to be's on their list

he will rip their throats out

    • Michael Zvi Krumbein says:

Asner is no surprise, not since that Academy Awards years ago. Bikel is the only disappointment to me.

    • Michael Zvi Krumbein says:

I would like to join the head of the music school and theater Aspaklaria, who supports the boycott in the hope that maybe now some quality theater will emerge in Israel, instead of the politically correct garbage currently being produced. If I ever become a celebrity like Dave, I can sign the list.

In case anyone wonders why anyone cares, the boycott is mainly against Ariel, which is pretty cosmopolitan. The University actually has a large Arab contingent. (Rhetorical question: How many Jews in Al-Kuds university?)

  11. @milandroid says:

OK, I'll like them all, as long as I could remember their names!

  12. Michael Zvi Krumbein says:

Here's an easy one. Nathan Strauss, the Macy Department store owner, as well as an important advocate for milk pasteurization. Rechov Strauss in Jerusalem and the city of Netanya are named after him. (For references, see the wikipedia article.)

  13. Lorenzo says:

You can still support Israel and oppose building towns for Israelis in land seized from the Arabs in 1977.

    • AEWHistory says:

Lorenzo, you can support Israel and still criticize lots of things, just as you can support a loved one without blindly supporting them. I agree wholeheartedly. Where I disagree is where this supposed support devolves into thinly cloaked prejudice and so on. For instance, if you oppose Israeli development of the lands taken in 1967 then I can respect your position, even though I disagree with it, if you were to tell me that you also support international pressure on India and Pakistan to not develop or otherwise alter the situation in Kashimir until such time as a settlement is reached. Another example is Tibet where you simply MUST support Tibetan rights and international pressure China to stop the cultural eradication of Tibet if you support the Arab position against Israel. Do you? If not, you've singled Israel out, and this is prejudice.

    • Michael Zvi Krumbein says:

How was it theirs before? Jordan seized it in 1948. I have a friend in Ramot, Jerusalem, whose neighbor is an Arab who settled there in 1949. If my friend is an illegal settler, why isn't his Moslem friend also one?

  14. isberg says:

Since Jews own, run, control Hollywood (fact; not antisemitism), it's impossible to be a celebrity and be anti-Israel. :)

    • israellycool says:

Tell that to Mel Gibson, Vanessa Redgrave..and the list goes on and on.

    • Michael Zvi Krumbein says:

"I only appoint your enemies from among yourselves". Thus said the Rabbis, over 1500 years ago.

    • Jim from Iowa says:

You're a little fuzzy on your facts and your conclusions are highly illogical. And, besides, aren't you the one who sunk the Titanic?

    • Julia says:

eh, that was true when hollywood started and still so 50 years ago, then somewhat 30 years ago, but most of the studios they ran have been bought and sold and changed management, even though they kept the name. A better estimate is that the industry is about 25% Jew owned, which is a lot, but not all. Take Disney for instance, Disney has always been anti-Semitic and owns a lot of Hollywood and the associated studios.

  15. AEWHistory says:

Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. He's been making semi-regular stops in Israel for years, but Tull has never, to my knowledge, had a single concert in an Arab country, and I think the only Muslim country they've played is Turkey. His first wife was Jewish, so this isn't very surprising.

  16. Ray says:

    You forgot Amare Stoudemire.

Look it up. He just got back from Israel about a month ago.

  22. Amy says:

Jason Isaacs … aka "Lucius Malfoy" in the Harry Potter films and "Michael Caffee" in the "Brotherhood" series, and many, many other roles … his parents and one of his brothers made aliyah back in the '80s, and another brother is a macher in one of the major universities here.

fantastic,so many supporting GENOCIDE…such goddamed idiots!!

  24. Eddie says:

Ana, the ones supporting genocide are leftist, progressive FAKE anti-war socialists, who NEVER demonstrate against al qada, osama bin laden, hamass, hezbullah.

And it was scotland/uk which released the bomber of Pan Am 103, on "compassionate" grounds, which were in fact "passion" for libyan oil contracts.

  33. Phillip Wright says:

That is not Tom Cruise. The search on YouTube leads to the video because someone named it that way for the shock value, likely to grab attention.

Elton John also defied attempted boycotts of Israel to play there in 2010, denouncing other artists who canceled their visits, and supposedly said at the concert "Shalom, we are so happy to be back here! Ain't nothing gonna stop us from coming, baby," with a fist in the air.
