Interesting Caption of The Day

A veiled Palestinian girl uses a catapult to throw stones at Israeli soldiers during a weekly demonstration against the construction and expansion of Israeli settlements on village lands in the West Bank village of Nabi Saleh, near Ramallah, on January 6, 2012. ABBAS MOMANI/AFP/Getty Images

While the palestinians have tried all kinds of weapons, I don’t think catapults are part of their arsenal.

Update: Apparently, it is me asleep at the wheel, since some do refer to a slingshot as a catapult.

  1. hi dave,

while i don’t like to stick up for the afp, in south africa a forked stick with a rubber band attached which is used for shooting stones at birds or your neighbour’s windows is called a katty or catapult.

we all grew up with one of them hidden under the bed and out of sight of our mothers

  2. Yeah… a catapult in not just for sending cats flying. What the heck is that thing called in Australian?

I’d take issue with calling her veiled, however. She’s headscarf-ed to be sure, but nothing is covering her face. Weird.

    catapult |?kat??p?lt, -?po?olt|
