Ha’aretz “Celebrity” Endorsement

A few days ago, I blogged about the not-too-bright hackers who took down the websites of uber Left Israeli news outlet Ha’aretz, and some Israeli hospitals known for helping palestinians.

Now it seems the hackers agree they made an awful mistake. Regarding Ha’aretz (hat tip: EoZ).

Apologizing for bringing down Ha’aretz, but not Israeli hospitals treating Israelis and palestinians alike, speaks volumes about the hackers.

Not to mention Ha’aretz.

  1. It’s kind of like the Neo Nazis who follow Richard Silverstein.

Does the Tweet from AnonPS/FreeAnonymous really mean they can stop anyone from hacking? Or does it mean that they are the only ones doing the hacking, so if they stop, that’s it. If so, what about the claim that there is no organized “anonymous”? I’d say something more critical, but I don’t want to get hacked.

Anonymous is anyone who wants to take the label. You could be Anonymous if you wanted. Anonymous doesnt really have any uniform opinion beyond anti-authority and anti-internet oppression.

You may well characterize the newspaper with the largest circulation, arguably the most influential in Israel as “uber Left.” But Ha’aretz is cited by more U.S. media outlets than I can name when describing what is going on in Israel. Not the Jerusalem Post, not Arutz Sheva and, sadly, not IsraellyCool.

And the New York Times, in 1942 covered a factual evidence of the Shoah, which at by that time had murdered 1 million Jews, on page 10 or 11 with no comment or follow up. Sometimes being the ‘news of record’ is largely being the news of whomever pays you to be to the news of record.

      • Travis says:

The same New York Times whose reporter in Moscow in th 1930′s Walter Duranty covered up the Ukrainian famine and who claimed that the show trials in Moscow were convicting guilty folks.

    • Sorry Jim, but Ha’aretz is almost dead and way, way behind others on circulation. It’s marginal within Israel and its a mystery to most of us why it still commands any respect beyond these shores. It’s circulation is way less than one third of Israel Ha’yom or Yediot Ahrnot.

      • Jim from Iowa says:

Duely noted. I should have said “most respected” Israeli newspaper, rather than largest circulation. The rap that it has, of all things, an anti-Israel bias is absurd. Maybe it needs more pictures and Jumble features to compete in circulation with the likes of Rupert Murdoch, who has laughed all the way to the bank cashing in on the idea of promoting “journalism” for the masses.

        • Travis says:

Most “respected” by Leftists throughout the world who really wish Israel would disappear. It has Amira Hass and Gideon Levy as columnists – google them and you will be shocked (actually you probably would not be) at who links to them.

        • mzk1 says:

Ha’aretz got that reputation in the old days, when the other newspapers were considered party papers. Also, having an extreme left-wing slant doesn’t hurt. But to tell you the truth, Ynet (the web site of “Idiot”, our largest newspaper)may be worse.

Did you know the Jerusalem Post once was basically a Labor party paper? Till some guy in Canada bought it, I think.

      • juvanya says:

Its respected because it has a nice slick English site and those two dont.

    • juvanya says:

      Unfortunately so.

“You may well characterize the newspaper with the largest circulation, arguably the most influential in Israel…”

You tell me I’m not well versed in how Americans think, and I can only accept that (or, more accurately, that I’m no longer up to date). Yet you make this claim that requires being an Israeli to verify.

Haaretz’s circulation has taken a sheer drop in the last 10+ years, and its influence is now confined to the closed-system ivory tower of stubborn far-Leftist readers who still read it. The influential magazines in Israel today are still Yediot Ahronot and Maariv, with the free right-wing Israel HaYom a significantly rising star. This is what I know as an Israeli.

“But Ha’aretz is cited by more U.S. media outlets than I can name when describing what is going on in Israel.”

That speaks volumes of the U.S. media outlets. America is in deep trouble as far the media is concerned. And the only light in the whole darkness is precisely the one single media outlet you and other Leftists want shut down.

“The rap that it has, of all things, an anti-Israel bias is absurd.”

Have you read it? Or, if you have, with eyes open? With Amira JudenHass, Gideon “Israel’s demands are the demands of a thief” Levy and its being habitually quoted by the lowest of the low (Electronic Intifada, Mound o’ Scheiss, Common Dreams, Dicksilver etc.), “anti-Israel bias” is putting it gently about Haaretz.

I go with what Steven Plaut says on this matter: Haaretz is Israel’s #1 Hebrew-language Arab newspaper.

  4. Travis says:

It just shows you that to the Muslims – a Jews is a Jew is a Jew even if their are vile traitors such as Amira (juden)Hass and Gideon Levy.

  5. David says:

I like the way Ha’aretz so reported this story – so proud to be one of the “good” Jews. Are you sure that they are in israel? Seems to smell of ghetto mentality to me …
