Kitty Litter

Singer/songwriter Cat Power has decided to boycott Israel.

Which is not surprising considering his conversion to Islam and very anti-Israel views.

Update: It seems I was confused. Cat Power is some female singer I have never heard of.

..who produces music like this:

So I can’t say I’m personally devastated.

And apparently, she’s felt “sick in her spirit” for quite a while.

Cat Power and another person who looks “well educated” on the Middle East

Marshall has been praised for her soulful vocals and raw, minimalist guitar playing. Cat Power’s concert appearances were unconventional and unpredictable for many years, and critics often called her an erratic live act. Marshall faced substance abuse problems which she said affected her performances..

Marshall’s live shows have been known for their unpolished nature, with songs beginning and ending abruptly or blending into one another without clear transitions. She has also cut short performances without explanation. On some occasions this has been put down to her suffering from stage fright and the influence of alcohol.

By the turn of the century, Marshall’s live performances had become erratic and unpredictable, with The New Yorker suggesting, “It is foolhardy to describe a Cat Power event as a concert,” citing “rambling confessions” and “[talking] to a friend’s baby from the stage.” Marshall later attributed this period to a drinking problem, telling HARP magazine in 2006 “I didn’t know I was messed up.” Marshall has admitted abusing alcohol in the past; in a 2006 interview with The New York Times, she declared herself to be sober, which she defined as having had “seven drinks in seven months.”

Following the cancellation of the arranged tour of “The Greatest” album in 2006, Marshall used the hiatus to recover from what she described as a “psychotic break,” brought on by mental exhaustion and alcohol abuse, which had left her feeling suicidal. As part of her recovery, she was admitted to the psychiatric ward at Miami’s Mount Sinai Medical Center but left after a week, stating “being in there wasn’t me.” She later likened the experience to “a pit of hell.” Marshall gave a first person account of her breakdown in an interview for the November 2006 issue of Spin.

Now don’t get me wrong. I am most certainly notmocking mental illness, and I hope Cat Power finds some peace

She’s just not going to promote it by blaming Israel.

  1. Dave I take it you were confusing her with Cat Stevens a.k.a. Yusuf Islam but born as Steven Georgiou.

I haven’t heard of her either and if I don’t hear of her again I will not lose any sleep over it.

      1. I thought you had confused Cat Power with Cat Ballou. She was the queen of the outlaws, her hide was Cat Ballou. You know, that one played by Jane Fonda with Lee Marvin as the drunk. They don’t make ’em like that anymore.

  2. yet another one, that we dont need/want in the country
another bad influence on the young.
before they change their minds and decide not to come to israel,we should with loud voices say dont come we dont want you.
there are plenty of artists around the world who dont drag, drug/drinking/bad reputations/around with them, why do we always get the dead heads with the same excuses.
iv’e never heard of her,but if my children were still young they would not be going to see her or any act that that could not care less about their public image where children/young are concerned, and these drug fueld so called performers, have no care for the harm they know they are doing its all about money because the young/younger fans are the target areas.
i cant see any body with half a brain wanting to see these people and pay to do so.
there is a big difference between childrens freedom and parental good sence,so she is no loss.
obviously the coverage she is getting by not coming to israel is badly needed by her,and out weighs other conciderations.

    1. euuh I thought u just said u’ve never heard of her?! how can u start judging without having the slightest background on Chan Marshall!? -there’s this thing called google, it’s very practical. And u talk about influence on children? WE should be teaching our children not to be judgmental first, to be open and to learn from others. I totally support her decision, if she can’t play a live show in Palestine why the hell play one in Israel!

  3. It sounds like her words have been taken out of context in hopes of drawing in a larger audience to an article which lacks any true substance.

If a person is of a delicate emotional state, retreating from any situation, be it Israel’s or not, would be for the best.

She speaks of having been treated for alcoholism. Could it not be that she is avoiding too much upset so as not to relapse? So as not to fall into destructive patterns her fans could witness as some have before?

There is a lot of negativity fueled towards her, and it’s a pity so many must choose hate to fill them then to practice what it is they preach about: tolerance.

  4. The author has confused “Cat Power” and “Cat Stevens”

    smdh

Google is a good thing…even for fanatics like all of you.

  5. You guys are such amateurs. The person standing next to Cat Power on the picture, and whi is being described as ‘someone who looks well-educated on the Middle-East’, is Devendra Banhart, who has been the very boyfriend of your precious Natalie Portman. She even played in one of his video clips at the time they were dating.
After they broke up however, he did cancel Tel Aviv concerts, which is not considered a political statement rather than a personal one considering his ex-girlfriend.
So I’m very sorry ruin your little ‘joke’ about men with beards as I have to state that this ultra-moders hipster sort of person is the very opposite of what you consider to be Middle-Eastern.
