This was quite informative. Thanks for sharing, Dave. I wish there had been more examination of Israel’s military capability of successfully destroying Iran’s capability of building nuclear weapons long term. My reading on this subject leads me to believe that Israel does not have this capability and for that reason a military strike would not achieve the strategic objective of Israel’s homeland security. My hope is that Obama can convince Netanyahu in May when they meet, to give economic sanctions more time to work.
Given the level of personal disgust and hatred Obama has for Bibi, one has to wonder why he’s ordering him to call upon The One at all. I mean apart from the regular yelling and threats and condemnations. He’s probably going to tell Bibi in person he’s cutting aid to Israel any way he can think of and as far as he’s concerned come Jan 2013 Iran can nuke them if they wish and there’s nothing he can do about it.
My take on this is that Obama is hoping that Israeli threats of force, plus the sabotage and contract hits on Iranian scientists would bolster the sanctions. What Iran really needs is regime change, and if it can be brought about through a minimum of external force, the better.
A nice photo from Brazil’s most popular political blog:

“So… yesterday, the President Rousseff received the credentials of the ambassadors of the Republic of Guinea, Hungary, Fiji, Guyana, Tunisia, Israel, Sweden, Burkina Faso, Sri Lanka, Ivory Coast, Peru, Syria, Malta, Gabon, New Zealand Argentina, China, Guinea, Honduras, Iran and Thailand…
And the photo above? This, alongside the president, is Mr. Ghanezadeh Mohammad Ali, Ambassador of Iran. I hope that he doesn’t have to explain himself at home. He ended up posing beside the flag of Israel, as you can see the blue star. It is the country that his boss, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has promised to sweep from map.
But no, he won’t!
