Your Royal Jewness

I heard the rumors at the time of the royal wedding and they just won’t go away.

Seder Night at Buckingham Palace may not be in Queen Elizabeth’s diary of events but placing an order for Matzah may just be on the cards for a future King of England.

When Prince William tied the marital knot with Kate Middleton in last year’s fairy tale wedding he is said to have married into a Jewish blood line stretching back centuries.

William follows his father Prince Charles as heir to the throne and his new mother-in-law is the former Carole Goldsmith. Despite five generations of Goldsmiths marrying in church some royal observers say there’s a very real Jewish heritage in the Goldsmith clan.

Read the whole thing for other examples of Jooooooos and UK leadership.

Meanwhile, it’s a shame the Jewish connection did not rub off at all on the wedding ceremony.

  1. Shy Guy says:

There’s nothing Jewish about the Goldsmiths. The name isn’t particularly Jewish, either.

Why are you chasing your tail (again)?

    • Aussie Dave says:

      Who’s chasing anything?

      • Shy Guy says:

Oops. This was on another Israeli blog prior to the wedding. There’s nothing Jewish about the Middletons. Nonsense was debunked back then.

      • Travis says:

Harvey Goldsmith, Jeff Beck’s manager, and manager to many other musicians – is Jewish.

    • Norman B. says:

Well, there is an outfit in Israel that seeks out to identify lost tribes and tribesmen and bring them back into the fold. Dave might be pipe dreaming, but let’s see what Michael Freund has to say.

    • Jim from Iowa says:

Well, after all, as an Australian, Dave is still one of the queen’s subjects. What the Australians get out of the relationship is unclear to me as an American. But, I have to admit, Americans are known saps for royal-watching, too.

    • Inessa says:

I think it just so happens that there are many Jewish Goldsmiths in England – eg Gemima Goldsmith’s father. Anyway, Carole Goldsmiths also has Temple and Meyers in her maternal ancestry.

      • Shy Guy says:

You’re making the same mistake. Temple and Meyers are not particularly Jewish names in origin.

Nor is Berger and a whole list of others.

    Alert the Royal Mohel!

  3. Gordito says:

    Shy Guy,
I thought they are all descended from a german clan and have very little native ancestry.
