Jordan Brawl: What The Argument Was About

Yesterday, I posted video of the Jordan MP who pulled a gun on another.

Here’s a reminder (since it never gets old)

I wondered at the time what the argument was about. Now we may have an answer:

The MP, named in a YouTube clip of the confrontation as Mohammed Shawabka, was debating a political activist named in the clip as Mansour Sayf al-Din Murad, discussing aspects of Jordanian politics including attitudes surrounding the uprising in Syria.

Ok, that could be a topic giving rise to passions. But why the gun?

As the Jo Sat TV station discussion became more heated, each of the men accused the other of various crimes and deviancies. Shawabka claimed Murad was in the pay of the Syrian regime. Murad countered that Shawabka worked for the Israeli Mossad intelligence agency. “You’re a Mossad agent,” he said. “You’re a big crook,” came the response.

I wonder if the Mossad agent quip is what triggered Shawabka to pull a gun. Because if it was, pulling out a gun is not the smartest response if you want to dispel that notion.

Mind you, it may have been worse had he taken out a tennis racket.

The Peter Principle is alive and well in Jordan.

Ought we view these two individuals as exceptionally hot headed? Or, is their conduct a reflection of their culture, one in which “honor killings” of young women is not a rarity?

Yet again so impressed #yay. One of them could have least put the other out of his misery.
