Mensch Of The Day

Ladies and gentleman, I give you America’s preeminent sportscaster, Bob Costas

bob_costasAt the July 27 Opening Ceremony from London, Costas plans to call out the IOC for denying Israel’s request for a moment of silence acknowledging the massacre of 11 Israeli athletes and coaches at the 1972 Games. On the 40th anniversary of Munich, it’s a decision he finds “baffling.” When the Israeli delegation enters the 80,000-seat Olympic Stadium, Costas will stage his own protest: “I intend to note that the IOC denied the request,” he says, modulating his voice as if he were on the air. “Many people find that denial more than puzzling but insensitive. Here’s a minute of silence right now.”

He’s gold.

Good for Bob. He’s generally a class act all around. A sports guy with depth.

I am normally not a Costas fan but he is on the side of the angels on this one.

  3. Shy Guy says:

    Thank you, sir.

This is the right thing to say and do, so I applaud Bob Costas for this message. One more thing. Short people got no reason to live. If I hear Bob Costas go on one more long-winded, dreadfully boring baseball story filled with obscure minutiae of insignificant events, I’m really going to lose it.

    bless you Bob Costas!

It would be the right thing to do……kinda leads to the old quote about ignoring history causing a repeat of history.
