CNN’s 911 Commemoration

In fact, since the terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people at the World Trade Center and Pentagon 11 years ago, 19 people have died in terrorist attacks in the United States that were motivated by ideologies that have nothing to do with the ideas of Osama bin Laden, but rather were the victims of terrorists motivated by extreme anti-government views or virulent anti-Semitic/neo-Nazi views.

Jihadist terrorists, on the other hand, have killed 17 people, according to data compiled by the New America Foundation from thousands of news reports and court documents. (“Jihadist” terrorists are defined in this database as those associated with or motivated by al Qaeda, or its affiliates or like-minded groups.)

There have been 10 deadly attacks in the United States by nonjihadist extremists since 9/11 compared to just four by jihadists.

What a load of crap! Nidal Hasan alone murdered 13 in Fort Hood. No wonder CNN’s ratings have been going down the toilet.

    • FuzzyFace

Ah, but Nidal Hassan wasn’t associated with a jihadi group. Some lawyer must have stayed up pretty late, working on that phrasing.

      • Norman B.

Au contraire. He was in communication with Awlaki, the Al Qaeda big man in Yemen.

How do you know the CNN report didn’t count that as one?

The prose style seems a bit odd for something published on a major and supposedly impartial news site. It seems like something that an earnest student would write in pleading his case in a term paper.

*Update: OK, after I wrote that, but before submitting the comment, I checked the article again. The authors are think-tankers. Makes sense.

    “Muslims have made less attacks”

That doesnt change the fact that they are efficient in their attacks.

Some seriously faulty logic in there. It’s like saying that seat belts aren’t necessary because hardly anyone gets injured in car crashes these days, ignoring the role of seat belts in that.

The war on terror is working.
