Obama Disses “Noisy” Bibi

US President Barack Obama continues to show public disdain for Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

US President Barack Obama described the Israeli pressure to draw a “red line” for Iran as “noise” he is trying to block out.

In an interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes” that aired Sunday, the president addressed the crisis between Washington and Jerusalem over the handling of the Iranian nuclear issue. Obama stressed he feels “an obligation, not pressure” to coordinate with Israel.

Meanwhile, Israeli and US officials are still struggling to reach understandings on the matter behind the scenes. US Ambassador to Washington Michael Oren has traveled to Israel to meet Netanyahu before the latter heads to New York for the UN’s General Assembly on Wednesday night.

Obama said he “understands and shares” the Israeli prime minister’s “insistence” that Iran should not obtain a nuclear weapon as this “would threaten us, it would threaten Israel and it would threaten the world and kick off a nuclear arms race.”

However, in a jab to Netanyahu, he remarked that when it comes to US national security “any pressure that I feel is simply to do what’s right for the American people. And I am going to block out any noise that’s out there.”

  1. This is the way Obama acts during a tight re-election campaign – can you imagine if he did not have to run for re-election?

  2. I’m not the most objective observer on this subject (ie I support Obama’s re-election and hope the Israeli Left can somehow replace Netanyahu next year) but Bibi has been spoiling for a fight with Obama ever since he became prime minister. I can’t remember another Israeli prime minister so engaged in interfering in American politics as Netanyahu has. Obama is not the problem with American-Israeli relations. Bibi is.

    1. The truth is, Iran has also threatened to destroy America. What I don’t get is how you can overlook that and blame this on Bibi. In fact, if Iran does get the bomb, I feel they will use it again us, not Israel – after all, that’s their neighborhood too. I’m worried that the President doesn’t seem to be concerned about that. That “noise” he’s blocking out is reality. I think all Americans are in grave danger.

    2. Now that is funny considering that Bill Clinton engineered Netanyahu’s overthrow in 1999. As for spoiling for a fight – Obama showed what he really thought about Netanyahu when he walked out on him at the White House to have dinner with his family. What you wrote is (no offense intended) real Bizarro World.

      1. I’m not sure the ‘walking out” story is true. Obama has not been a vocal supporter of Israel, or of an accurate narrative of the history of the region. But, he has kept the security edge for Israel viz US support and supply of weapons. So that tempers the negative. Still, Iran will trump all of that if Obama doesn’t stop them from getting nukes.

    3. “I’m not the most objective observer on this subject (ie I support Obama’s re-election and hope the Israeli Left can somehow replace Netanyahu next year)”

Lack of objectivity is the least of your problems. What you’re hoping for is the undoing of both America and Israel.

“…but Bibi has been spoiling for a fight with Obama ever since he became prime minister.”

Nonsense. They’ve been on a collision course ever since they were both in power at the same time, because Bibi is the embodiment of all the values Obamarx hates—Zionism, capitalism, “white oppressorhood” (according to the Phakestinian narrishtive that dollars to donuts Obama swallows whole), you name it.

“I can’t remember another Israeli prime minister so engaged in interfering in American politics as Netanyahu has.”

What a coincidence, I can’t remember another U.S. president so engaged in interfering in Israeli politics as Obama has. From his statement that “pro-Israel does not equal Likud” to his impertinent nosing on how much and where the Jewish nation may build on its own land.

“Obama is not the problem with American-Israeli relations. Bibi is.”

Can’t cure stupid. Can’t cure Leftist.

      1. There’s a lot to unpack here, so I’ll make my rebuttal to you Ziontruth, in part, I admit, because you’re the easiest to dismiss because you’re so extreme in your views. Netanyahu has been saying for decades now that Iran was crossing that red line in acquiring nuclear weapons in order to destroy Israel. Why wouldn’t anyone be more than a little skeptical when Netanyahu pounds the war drums right before an American election?

The Israeli Right, and their Neo-Con friends in America, have planted story after story in the American press, how the Obama White House has given this or that slight to the Israeli prime minister. But when the press tries to pin these stories down, they just evaporate. Bibi being left standing alone at the White House and not even given a meal? It didn’t happen. Obama not meeting with Bibi in New York today as a calculated slight to him? Hardly. It just means Obama is too smart to allow Netanyahu the press opportunity to make mischief 43 days before the US elections.

Finally, what is the one thing that sets the US apart from Israel and every other country in the world? We are the one and only superpower in the world, with world responsibilities and obligations. So if you see us as meddling, we are just doing our job as a world power. Israel is a regional power, at best, and it’s citizens should never tolerate having it’s head of state blatently and repeatedly interfere in American politics. It’s bad for Israel and clear-thinking Israelis will do the right thing next year and kick this guy out of office.

        1. “…you’re so extreme in your views.”

Yeah, keep telling yourself that, then act surprised when the Israeli Jewish populace doesn’t go on board with your idea that “the Israeli Left can somehow replace Netanyahu next year” (on the contrary—starts electing Feiglins).

“The Israeli Right, and their Neo-Con friends in America, have planted story after story in the American press, how the Obama White House has given this or that slight to the Israeli prime minister. … Bibi being left standing alone at the White House and not even given a meal? It didn’t happen.”

Wow. Aren’t you the one who laughed at Shy Guy for posting conspiracy theories on Rabin’s assassination? It looks here like you’re not against conspiracy theories in general, just those that don’t mesh with your political views.

“Finally, what is the one thing that sets the US apart from Israel and every other country in the world?”

American exceptionalism?! From a Leftist?! Now that’s a first!

“We are the one and only superpower in the world, with world responsibilities and obligations. So if you see us as meddling, we are just doing our job as a world power. Israel is a regional power, at best, and it’s citizens should never tolerate having it’s head of state blatently and repeatedly interfere in American politics.”

          Stated briefly: Might makes right.

Sorry, but not even being a world power gives a state the right to the tell the Jewish nation where and how much it can build on its own land. And unlike the previous recipient of Islam-appeasing American meddling, Serbia, we do possess something that would make even a superpower think a thousand times before forcing its will on us.

For my part, I think Netanyahu is wrong to try to enlist America’s help against Iran, as I’m a total disbeliever in all alliances—I hope Bibi’s just doing it for the show, a distraction for the Iranians in the interim. But I have no qualms about Israeli interfering in American politics, being tit-for-tat for the insolence of interfering with the Jewish nation’s right of populating its land. If you want a divorce, so be it, the price Israel has to pay for this special relationship has simply risen too high.

“It’s bad for Israel and clear-thinking Israelis will do the right thing next year and kick this guy out of office.”

While Netanyahu somehow is still the epitome of “Israeli right-wing hardliners” in the view from America, here in Israel a sizable majority of the Jewish public views him as soft and craven, particularly after the Ulpana debacle. Yes, we’ll vote him out eventually—to replace him with someone less beholden to what the rest of the world, including America, thinks or does.

      2. Not sure if serious? As soon as Obama became president one of the first things he did was lead an international campaign to condemn Jews building houses in the West Bank.

OH NOES A JEW BUILDING A HOUSE!! MY MIDDLE NAME IS HUSSEIN SO THIS AFFECTS ME DEEPLY! NOT A HOUSE! NOT BUILT BY A JEW

        *GASSSSPPPPPP*

      3. Look, more and more Americans are tired of the US playing the wet nurse maid to the nation of Israel. We owe them nothing. Israel should be grateful for all of the financial, military and logistical support they receive. It is clear what we get in return – Nothing! Israel has nuclear weapons. Smart bombs will accomplish nothing against Iranian fortifications. Israel should use their nuclear arsenal with their German subs to dispatch their enemy. America will not go to war for Israel. We will not use our nuclear arsenal. Bibi acts like a resentful beggar expecting that America will handle his tough responsibilities for him. If Israel can’t stomach using a nuclear weapon to defeat Iran then what kind of delusional hypocrisy makes them believe we would take that very action on their behalf?

So, to Israel, more Americans are saying, ‘you take care of your own business’. If Iran acquires a nuclear weapon, they have no delivery system that could threaten the US. Grow up. Conduct your self like a sovereign nation and take care of your own affairs. Israel would be wise to see Obamas attitude as representative of a sea change among the American public that increasing believes Israel is an ungrateful freeloader. If, as an American citizen, anyone believes Israel is their number one concern then they are clearly living in the wrong country.

      4. Ziontruth Defends Israeli Welfare State

Why don’t you and Israel put your big boy underwear on and stop looking to the United States to be the wet nurse for all your problems. Polls and the last election demonstrate that Americans are growing tired of baby-sitting Israel. Furthermore, attacking progressives will only accelerate centrist and leftist exhaustion with those like you who act as advocates for Israeli refusal to pay for and address problems a less corrupt nation would tackle themselves.

Israelis, and Bini, act as if the US is obligated to pay special, unique attention to their needs. The American, extremist right wing may be louder now but that is only because they are shrinking. They are the ones who have advocated treating Israel like the 51 states. The truth is, Ziontruth, We OWE nothing to Israel and they act ungrateful for the 6 billion in welfare they receive from the US every year.

Therefore, it is laughable to hear you try to make a credible argument for blind Israeli support as you assail the political ideology of Americans who don’t subscribe to the extreme, fundamentalist nature of Zionist ideology. Additionally, you are an advocate for a Zionist welfare state subsidized by the wealth of hard working Americans. If Israel is not equipped to function as a Nation State and manage their own security, it is for lack of ambition and as American demographics continue their rapid change, you will find the day is close when you will no longer be rewarded for that lack of competence with a 6 Billion dollar check, or equivalent. Sometime Ziontruth, the louder, more demanding one is, the less people listen. Moreover, your insults toward others political affiliation shows that you lack integrity. You reinforce the growing disinterest in Israeli whining and begging for Americans cash that helps fund and secure illegal settlements. The days of support are numbered.

On a last note, Your contempt for Obama, implications that he reacts to whites based on his race, and your hostile referal regarding the Palestinians is no different then if I were to dismiss your argument because you ‘are a dirty, greedy, self interested kike who is just trying to steel our nations wealth.’ Does Obama have a ‘White Oppresser’ syndrome any more than you have a ‘Victim, Jew, Kike, con-artist syndrome’? You opened that door on others. Now, don’t expect anyone to keep it closed for you.

        1. I normally don’t defend what Ziontruth writes, but he explicitly stated that he opposed the U.S.-Israel alliance and in fact all alliances, with the corollary being that he does not want any aid money, especially if it would tie his hands. Try rereading his piece. Extracting your head from your anal cavity would be exceedingly helpful in that regard.

          1. Norman B.

Wrong on Facts – Anal Fixation – Racist Adolescent

Norman, before you unleash your limited scope of unimpressive, adolescent insults, make sure you know which reply I was responding to.

Dissatisfied with your own profound lack of intellectual veracity, you go on to reinforce your diminutive cognitive grasp of the art of discourse by challenging me with grade school caliber insults that reveal your obsessive preoccupation with the male anus.

In response to your assertion regarding Mr. Zion’s rejection of all aid, I will tell you this kind of disingenuous, Ubber Zionist talk has been bandied around ad nauseum by radical, religious extremists who privately concede they know the aid will always be there. They have played a ruse for decades. It is old news, Norm. It is the most common public relations ploy to dismiss something for political expediency that one knows will continue to be there no matter how vociferously rejected.

Alas, despite my distrust for fascist proclamations and racist, fundamentalist extremists (That was the motivation for my reply, Norm), I will reply here that I hope Mr. Zion achieves what he says he is trying to accomplish for Israel and it will be so much the better for the United States in the end.

In conclusion, I am unimpressed with your fixation with the male anus and your feeble and unprofessional attempts to use infantile insults to fortify what is a weak argument based on factual error. A foul mouthed individual like you or the racist Mr. Zion bring the entire caliber of discourse down to vituperative self aggrandizement and racist or pathetic (in your case) insults. What a waste of grey matter.

Luckily though Obama is a campaigner not a leader. He can win elections but he’s terrible at actual governance. In the end his term(s) will be remembered for the search for the Presidential dog, his Blackberry, not much else. The left is in love with him not because of his accomplishments and not even particularly what they think he represents to their post colonial post racial bullshit. They love him because the of the vapid attacks on him by an even stupider GOP. But in so far as his track records on the economy, the banks, unemployment, his so called foreign policy – all of that had a lifecycle without ever being touched by or materially effected in any way by him.

Obama has become a punchline to a joke you are not allowed to repeat to anyone unless you like being called ‘racist’. But in very real ways you can’t make more fun of Obama than he’s managed to make fun of himself. It’s like we turned over the country to MTV.

Say what you will about Bush and lord knows I never voted for him. But the man has a pretty good sense of his own limitations. Obama thinks of himself as an Olympian God.

    1. Agreed. Obama is acceptable to many of us on the Left only because the Republican alternative is so unacceptable. Obama a lefty socialist trying to create a worker’s paradise by redistributing wealth?!!? I can’t stop laughing at that one.

    2. he will be remembered for fighting against a racist republican congress who chose not to work for 4 years

and im sorry, but anyone who runs for president must have an ego

so having a problem with obama having an ego…IS RACIST

and bush got us into a quagmire in iraq and opened the doors to the treasury to his buds…nothing more godlike than that

  4. The Israeli Right, and their Neo-Con friends in America, have planted story after story in the American press, how the Obama White House has given this or that slight to the Israeli prime minister. …

Pat Buchanan (or Andrew Sullivan) is that you?

    1. Well, no, Travis. Try uber-rightwing nut Frank Gaffney, The Weekly Standard’s William Kristol, Romney campaign foreign policy advisor Dan Senor and many others have been offering up these “Obama disses Bibi” stories for years now. Maybe it’s Dave’s post incorporating this preposterous (and unfair) comparison between Netanyahu as noble warrior and Obama as irresponsible stoner or the fact that I’ve just watched 10 hours of Wagner’s Ring Cycle, but I’m really psyched to take on my enemies (frienemies?). Bring it on rightwingers. I’ll meet you in the field of battle with the “Ride of the Valkyries” running through my mind.

      1. Liberals such as yourself think you will be immune from the affects of the Obama administrations disastrous policies. You will go down (figuratively speaking) with the rest of the country. It will be sort of like watching ones mother-in-law drive off a cliff in your new car.

  5. this may kill everyone here, but obama is right.

he also knows that the american people wont sit still for another war, unless its shown to be in america’s best interests

bush pushed america into the wrong war with iraq, when iran was always the problem

and im sorry, but bibi needs to stop nudging…

someone needs to ask him what he does when his wife constantly cheps him to do something

all of these negotiations should have been done in private

i still believe he is naive about islam…but we will have to wait and see

    1. “…obama is right.”

No, Obama isn’t right, Bibi just happens to be wrong, assuming he really thinks Israel’s survival is dependent on U.S. military action against Iran and is acting on that thought.

I’m OK with America not getting into this—every nation has a right not to get entangled in another’s affairs. What Israel needs to be watchful for is something like Zbigniew’s idea of intercepting and shooting down Israeli planes on their way to Iran, which would be anti-Israel intervention and an act of war.

Israel’s problem with Obama is the same as with Ron Paul: Not that he can’t be trusted to help (which would be fine) but that he can’t be trusted not to take our enemies’ side, out of sympathy or for the sake of appeasement.

  6. E Pluribus Beagle

If I had a dime for every time some have retarded far leftist literally promised me that the Evil Jew Menace ™ was going to start a war tomorrow morning 7am sharp, I could buy my own presidency. I’ve been listening to the progressives and the left say this every single day for the last 15 years. Every.Single.Day.

At some point you just have to admit that they’re a) delusional, b) stupid c) secretly wishing for the end of the world anyhow. Pick one.

  7. I am a U S citizen and am astounded at the number of Jewish folk in America who will be voting for Obama. And vote ‘progressive’ despite the antipathy of the far left towards the state of Israel.

    1. Jewish support for Obama is based on domestic issues, not foreign policy. I did not vote for Obama in 2008 and will not vote for him in November.

  8. he also knows that the american people wont sit still for another war, unless its shown to be in america’s best interests

The mark of leadership is leading, not following Gallup polls. Churchill was right in 1938, Chamberlain was wrong even though the British public thought Chamberlain was right.

    1. Another mark of leadership is to accept wise counsel from informed professionals when offered. Better Bibi listen to and accept the advice of his own military than continue to push a longtime friend into an ill-advised war with Iran.
