Ever since the civil war began in Syria in early 2011, Israel has been the proverbial elephant in the room. On the other hand, we are solemnly commanded by our faith, “You shall not stand idly by the blood of your neighbor.” A coalition with unreliable, even hostile, allies may be out of the question, but this is an issue that needs wider discussion in Israel as to upholding national interests and doing the right and just thing.
