As you may know I drive a completely electric car. I don’t have to fill up with any gasoline or petrol. I didn’t do this for “green” reasons: first and foremost I think one of the most vital efforts we can make is reducing our dependence on crude oil for transport. Crude oil supplies 95% of all transport. Yes, 95%. That is the reason why OPEC holds us by the balls. It doesn’t matter how much oil the US can drill and pump, the swing supply is in Saudi hands and they control the price. Period.
The only way to break this is to get off the drug and one of the best ways today is electric cars and trucks.
This view is shared by a fellow EV driver who has a semi-experimental BMW Active-E (based on a BMW 1 series) in the US. So much so that his license plate is “EF OPEC”. He added the space.
He’s had that plate for over 3 years, using it previously on an earlier experimental electric car from BMW (an electric Mini).
This weekend he received notification from the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission that someone has complained about his license plate. Somebody has found it “offensive to good taste or decency”. This from a state that is home to the TV Show “Jersey Shore”.
Is this just another case of the power of the state reaching into the lives of citizens unnecessarily to save the hurt feelings of the most easily offended people in the world? Can we not all agree that OPEC’s illegal cartel to fix oil prices for the last 40 years has caused tremendous damage to us all? What sort of person is offended by the license plate EF-OPEC?
Not long ago the Governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, visited Better Place in Israel. I wonder what his views on this are? We may find out soon, I know somebody is going to ask him.
