When I wrote “so far,” it was because the Swedish Academy had not yet awarded the Memorial Prize in Economics. The results are now in and one of the two winners is Harvard professor Alvin Roth, making our final total three Jewish winners. There were no Arab or Muslim winners this year.

Meanwhile, two Jewish scientists have won Nobels so far, Casablanca-born Serge Haroche in physics and Bronx-born Robert Lefkowitz in chemistry, with the economics prize to be awarded Monday. In the last 55 years of Nobel awards, Jews have been shut out only three times.
