The former is a given and not under our control. The latter is under our control and explains why an end to this conflict is not in sight. So long as we cling to the Christian mentality of turning the other cheek instead of performing the Jewish commandment of purging the entire Land of Israel of the entire enemy population (see BaMidbar 33), the situation will either stay the same or grow worse.
