An employee of the customs control unit in Ramallah accidentally shot himself on Wednesday, a spokesman for the unit said.
The man, a guard at the customs offices, shot himself by mistake while on duty, the spokesman told Ma’an, adding that the bullet entered his side and exited from his armpit.
He is in a stable condition in hospital and police are investigating the incident, the spokesman added.
I love how Ma’an News often finishes stories of palestinian deaths or injuries with “police are investigating the incident.” I suspect in this case, they will find the cause to be dumbasery.

Dan, this moron isn’t actually eligible to win a Darwin Award. He might get an honorable mention, but the fact that he survived his act of utter incompetence disqualifies him.
To reiterate: you need to get yourself killed through your own stupidity in a hilarious way to be eligible to win the Darwin Award. Merely injuring yourself (especially in a way that does not prevent you from having children in the future) just nets you an honorable mention.
