I think we are all forgetting something. Chumus is a Native JEWISH food, for the simple reason that a large portion (maybe 40%, since the Russians came) of our Jewish population is from the middle wast, and that population is quickly intermarrying with the Western Jews.

By the way, in Hebrew, Chumus also refers to whole chickpeas, a traditional ASHKENAZI food (known in Yiddish as Arbes).

One of the most ridiculous anti Israel claims I have seen is the one that “Israel stole hummus”. (Yes, they actually used the word “stole”.) As if taking a food popular to the region and incorporating it into one’s cuisine constitutes “stealing”.
This guy’s over-reaction to Obama liking hummus is merely a variation of this silliness.
