7:30 Douche

ABC Australia’s 7:30 Report has covered the”Prisoner X” affair, and to whom do they turn?

None other than thoroughly unreliable, anti-Israel blogger Richard Silverstein, whose main contribution to this story has been publishing an entirely false and laughable story regarding prisoner X’s identity, and then pointing the finger at others for his mistake once the truth came out.

What is noteworthy in this report – besides Silverstein’s wild hand gesticulations and infamous sweater- is how the program labels him an “author”, as if he is some well published expert on the topic.

Then again, the reference to the “infamous” Mossad and  senior Hamas “official” Mahmoud al-Mabhouh (rather than “terrorist” or even “militant”) should give us an idea where the 7:30 report stands.

In this context, calling on Silverstein makes perfect sense.

Agree with you that he is a douche , but I would be more specific , he is a Diaspora Douche and I for one dont trust a word he says .
He is all about his own ego and it shames me that the Israeli Left gives him the time of day .
I dont trust anyone from the Diaspora Dave be they Left or Right .
There is only one way to understand us and that is to live here and to send your children and grand-children to the army to defend this country that we all love in our own way , until someone is willing to do that they dont have the right to critizise us least of all Richard Silverstein .

When it is shown that all Israelis think and act alike when it comes to what is best for Israel, I’ll buy your argument. Until that time, I see your argument as way off-base and a little arrogant.

      • nanaloshen

Jim’s the man on the this one. Trust who you want, but you seem a bit shallow. Where we chose to live is none of your business, and serving in the IDF isn’t an end all. Plenty of us are on the front lines for Israel and I for one don’t appreciate your self-serving attitude.

        • Kibbutznik

“Where we chose to live is none of your business,”
          who is we ?
if you dont live here you are not Israeli , period .
“and serving in the IDF isn’t an end all.”
oh yes it is, try living here without serving and see for yourself.
” Plenty of us are on the front lines for Israel and I for one don’t appreciate your self-serving attitude.”
I dont care nanaloshen.. until you are truly on the front line.

Utter nonsense. I’m an Israeli American, and I know many American Jews who identify with Israel. Some go as far as to identify themselves as Israeli Americans, despite their (recent) family never having lived there personally. Our connection to Israel is just as strong as those who live there. Take your arrogant attitude elsewhere.

          • Dan

And for the record, I’ve busted my ass defending the Jewish state from anti-Israel/BDS campaign. Many of us do not have the ability to go to Israel, and we’re doing all we can to protect it.

          • Jim from Iowa

I really do see some of your points. But my take on things is that Israel already has enough enemies in the world, why make more? And a few more friends couldn’t hurt.

            • Kibbutznik

“And a few more friends couldn’t hurt.”

Do you think Richard Silverstein is a friend to us ?
Left or Right the Diaspora has no idea about life in this country, most of them that get involved are on a guilt trip .
They should sort out the problems in their own countrys and leave us to sort out ours .

              • Jim from Iowa

Of course Richard Silverstein demonstrates over and over again that he is no friend of Israel. We’ll just have to agree to disagree on the other points in your post. I might point out, though, Dave does a great job of letting the rest of the world know something about life in Israel. That’s a good start.

” I might point out, though, Dave does a great job of letting the rest of the world know something about life in Israel. That’s a good start. ”

Dave is OK , at least he lets me comment which is more than I can say for Richard Silverstein .
But Dave’s views on things are very religious right wing and as you pointed out already not ” all Israelis think and act alike when it comes to what is best for Israel”.
I’m a secular Left wing hawk , my mentor and childhood hero was Yitzhak Rabin so dont expect me to agree much with Dave but do expect me to show him respect for his political views because to me he is a fellow citizen , I dont owe that to Richard Silverstein or to anyone in the Diaspora .

Glad we had a chance to talk. We probably have a lot in common politically. Just know, Kibbutznik, that Israel has a lot of close friends and allies outside of Israel who care deeply about the State of Israel. Ironically, many, like me, aren’t even Jewish or religious in any way.

That is good to hear Jim and thank you , from where I’m sitting it seems sometimes that the whole world is against us .

DId they at least quote Bob Carr’s views on Dickie? Which seem to coincide with the rest of the world’s? But they must have known them, right, being, um, investigative journalists?

It occurs to me that Dick Dastardly could have a great career as a Hollywood scriptwriter. Then he wouldn’t have to sponge off his wife.

He was interviewed on ABC radio 774, and the producer told me he was the first to report on Prisoner X.
Turns out an Age reporter had mentioned Prisoner X in 2009, and ynet in 2012.
She said that Israeli media would not talk to the ABC so they went with Silverstein.
Naturally, though they knew Silverstein had got it wrong at first, they did not mention that he had thought it wa an Iranian on the program.

    • walt kovacs

pretty amazing how they put dickie on when he says absolutely nothing

the prisoner x case shows why israel must change its censorship policies

      and ben was suicided

    Dave, write to them.

I’ve just had a huge victory of my own against ‘auntie’.
[That for non-aussies is the pet name for the dreadful ABC]

The complaint was dealing with VERY antisemitic and racist posts on ‘The Drum’

    They have been removed.!!

Now I’ve had a win and I also have a contact, I will be keeping my eyes open for dear Antony Loewenstein and his pals of the loony left.

Blogger and author? Even if he was, his theories are as valid as if they interviewed Dan Brown. He presented no evidence and it just makes the program looks dumb that they couldn’t provide anyone credible – what a waste of time. Isn’t it amazing that this guy’s family in Israel and in Australia have kept quiet but some dick from Seattle can’t.
Without information, and there are good reasons for it not being released, there could be many theories: he might not even be dead, but in a witness protection program.

  • Jewess

The only reason anyone outside of Israel cares about Prisoner X is because he was incarcerated by the Jooos IN Israel.

    Kibbutznik,
There is another way for those of us outside of Israel to understand Israelis, and that is for people like you to tell us.
People like Dave, Elder of Ziyon, Carl in Jerusalem, David Bogner and Ted Belman, to name a few, all do their part to keep us informed and on track.
Start your own blog or offer to be a guest blogger. Marc Goldberg started a blog that includes writing about coming from England to become a paratrooper in the IDF. It is called Beyond the Green Line. A fascinating read. All the bloggers I mention, except for David Bogner, often have guest bloggers. We all appreciate their contributions.
As has been pointed out, there is a large community that supports Israel. We are not motivated by guilt, but rather we cannot stand by while Israel is relentlessly and unfairly attacked. We are motivated by a sense of right and wrong. We stand by the adage, ‘A lie told a thousands times is still a lie’.
Kibbutznik, put your money where your mouth is and start talking. I, for one, would like to know what a ‘secular Left wing hawk’ has to say.
