While the fighting goes on in Syria, the kids from kibbutz Elrom, which is a kibbutz that is right on the border with Syria, have decided to build the peace sign from stones as a message to the Syrian people
More from the linked article in Hebrew:
For more than two years, they are closely witnessing the brutal civil war raging across the border, and had suffered a few shells on their houses. Now, the northern kibbutz children decided to send a message to their neighbors: A “Peace” symbol, 50 meters in diameter at the foot of Tel Hermonit. “This is a sign for them”
They claim it’s the biggest peace sign in the middle east.
Silly me, I thought Israel giving the Sinai back was the biggest peace sign.
Think they might be Scientologists. Just thought of this:
Knock, Knock
Who’s there?
Kibbutz Elrom
Kibbutz Elrom who?
Kibbutz Elrom Hubbard.
I don’t know about you but that symbol always reminds me of someone flipping the bird.
This peace effort reminds me of the Peace Ship in the summer of 1973 that broadcast songs concerning peace to Israel and its surrounding countries. John Lennon’s Give Peace a Chance got quite a workout; even now when I hear that song, that ship comes to mind. I know a lot of soldiers listened to it because it was the only station on the air after 2:00 am, even soldiers who didn’t know much or any English tuned in. I wondered even then how songs about peace could possibly be getting their message across. Since the Yom Kippur war came soon after the Peace Ship, I’d have to say it didn’t!
