Richard Silverstein, October 12th:

Update: In other DouchebloggerTM news, our intrepid blogger has asked for donations to support a trip to a university, where they wanted him to speak, but not enough to actually pay for it.

Support My Appearance at Major U.S. University

I’m delighted that I’ve been invited to speak to the Jewish student community at a major U.S. university. I’d be participating in a speaker series whose previous participants were some of the major players in the American Jewish community. Those of you who’ve read my critiques of the leadership of American Jewry and what ails it, will know how excited I am to speak at one of America’s distinguished universities on these issues. It’s a wonderful opportunity to present my ideas to a wider Jewish audience.

The sponsoring group usually brings its speakers from within its local region and doesn’t have a budget to subsidize my full airfare. I’m turning to you and asking that my readers invest in this important project. You may donate via the Paypal button (you may donate a one-time gift or subscribe with an ongoing gift) or, if you wish your gift to be tax-deductible, use the green ‘Support Tikun Olam‘ button at the top of the sidebar.

Thanks for being my partners in making this important event happen.

As it turns out, Silverstein got cold feet upon discovering it was less a talk and more hanging out with a few college kids!

Update: I discovered an account Phil Weiss wrote of his own earlier participation in this series. Through it, I discovered that the event is quite informal, occurs over Shabbat dinner, and also draws a relatively small audience. My invitation hadn’t made that entirely clear. While it’s not worth a special trip back east for such an event, I plan on joining them on campus the next time I find myself back there.

Thanks to everyone who stepped up for your support.

I wonder if he will return the donations, which were received under false pretenses.

  1. Little Dickie Kaposchwantz: “I spent twelve years in graduate and undergraduate studies at five universities. They were not “brands” in those days. They were centers of higher learning.”

What Kaposchwantz really meant: “Christ, 12 years of college down the drain! Might as well join the fucking Hezbollah.”
