Gazan Arabs Celebrate Sharon’s Death

A lot of Israeli Jews have mixed feelings about Ariel Sharon, who died yesterday at the age of 85 after spending 8 years in a coma. Some say that today is not the day to speak ill of the dead. Some say we should remember the marvelous things he did for Israel as a warrior, the man we called The Bulldozer.

Others are bitter and speak out.

I have heard a variety of opinions, on Facebook and among my work colleagues at Kars4Kids.

But in all those opinions, both bitter and bittersweet, the one thing you won’t find, even among the Jews of Gush Katif who suffered horribly as a result of Sharon’s policies, is celebrations in the streets of Jewish neighborhoods.

The Arabs of Gaza, on the other hand, who were the beneficiaries of what was stolen away from 8,600 Jews as a result of Sharon’s Disengagement Plan, handed out sweets and carried signs suggesting that Sharon had been stamped out.

What a lovely thank you note for the generous gift they received, free and clear.

Not to mention this creative work of art.
