IHH Offices Raided Due To Alleged Al Qaeda Connection

Remember the IHH, the so-called aid organization behind the 2010 Mavi Marmara that tried to reach Gaza in 2010, a flotilla that was intercepted by Israeli commandos who killed 9 passengers?

We insisted passengers attacked the commandos with live fire and light weaponry including knives and clubs, but later caved in to Turkish demands to issue a formal apology and agree to pay compensation, all in the name of diplomacy.

Well, I’m sure you’ll all be shocked by the latest developments.

Turkish police have detained at least 23 people in an operation into al-Qaeda held simultaneously in six provinces on Jan. 14, followed by the dismissal of a senior police officer in Kilis following raids on a local Humanitarian Relief Foundation (?HH) branch.

Police have detained 18 people in the southeastern province of Van and another suspect was detained in the central Anatolian province of Kayseri as part of operations into al-Qaeda.

Three people have been detained by anti-terror police in Ba?c?lar, Fatih and Küçükçekmece districts in the Istanbul leg of the operation. The suspects were sent to Van, according to the reports.

Anti-terror police coming from the eastern province of Van searched the main office of the ?HH and its depot and one person from the relief organization was detained, Do?an news agency reported.

The raid is part of simultaneous operations against al-Qaeda in six provinces including Istanbul, Van, Kilis, Adana, Gaziantep and Kayseri.

Kilis anti-terrorism unit’s head Devlet Ç?ng? was removed from his post soon after he attended the raid into the ?HH branch in the city, which borders Syria.

You may recall even as far back as a year and a half ago, they were being investigated for the rainbow Qaeda connection.

No word yet from Mavi Marmara passenger Ken “KOK” O’Keefe, nor this nameless peace activist on board.
