Folks, I know Roger Waters is nothing short of a piece of bird crap, and day by day I’m thinking my brain cells would have a more meaningful death going on a whiteboard marker sniffing binge than dealing with his douchebaggery. My last article on the subject has been shared a couple a’ thousand times. And so here’s a follow up to his asinine Facebook post begging undeniably cute Scarlett Johansson to join his clan of creepy Israel haters. Ben Red of Israel’s 88 FM’s rock show “Noten B’Rock” posted the most “liked” comment on that post. It went something like this:
Mr. Waters, Music is supposed to act as a bridge between people and cultures and not create a gap between them. Your attitude doesn’t help to break the wall, it only makes it higher. The impression you make is that you’re not really interested in bringing peace and co-existence in the Middle East and that’s too bad because many of us here are… Maybe you’ve succeeded in convincing Pearl Jam not to come here, because you’re sort of a “father figure” for them, but Neil Young is not a child and he will be here because he knows that music lovers are the same anywhere in the world.
Nicely put. The post was attempt to remove the politics from music by stressing that music is supposed to build bridges, not walls, and that Roger is only pulling people apart rather than acting as a solution to the conflict. The post was the top comment with over 3000 likes. So when Roger Waters sees a non-belligerent comment calling for bridge building, he did the only sensible thing. He removed it. Ben posted this rebuttal. He states:
Friends, What happened here is no less than astonishing… After “Rock’s Show” reaction to his comments reached worldwide press, Waters, the great pillar of human rights and freedom of speech, has deleted my post from his wall (@roger waters the wall), a post which up to last night carried nearly 3000 ‘Likes’ (a number not shy of the ‘Like’ count his own post had received). As my words were substantive and of a non-belligerent nature, I am perplexed as to why he’d choose to wipe out the discussion. Roger, you made hundreds of millions of dollars from countries that conquered Iraq and Afghanistan and killed tens of thousands. If you think you are building bridges and offering peace, you are without a doubt not paying attention.
