Roger Waters’ Pathetic Follow-Up To Creepy Scarlett Letter

roger waters poster2Roger Waters has published another post in the wake of his previous creepy note to Scarlett Johansson, but without addressing any of the substantive issues, like the points brought up by Deebo, or his removing of comments.

I have read many of the responses to my Scarlett Johansson/SodaStream post. I feel obliged to reply to some of them.

Just so we are clear, I stand against any and all abuses of human rights when and where ever they may occur.

This includes human rights abuses in Syria, Russia, the United States of America, Israel, China, Thailand, Burma, the ex colonies of the United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Spain, Germany, Holland and all the other colonial and imperialist powers of the last few hundred years. Sorry if I’ve left anyone out, I’m sure I have, the list is endless. Fundamentally, I am against all violations of human rights, always, anywhere. One recoils in disgust at the warmongers, and stands in awe of the care givers, the U.N, Medicins Sans Frontiers, The Red Crescent, and all the other unsung heroes.

“We the People” made our declaration, “The Universal Declaration of Human rights,” in the General Assembly of The United Nations, in Paris on the 10th of December 1948. Enough said.

On another note:

I give heartfelt thanks, to those of you who chose to go online and stand with me, in declaring their opposition to colonialism, occupation, racism, dogma, bigotry and narrow national self-interest, in favor instead, of internationalism, self determination, truth, reason, justice, understanding, discourse, liberty, peace and love.

To quote both Dr King and the recently late and undeniably great Pete Seeger, “We shall overcome one day.”

Maybe, as relates to this particular issue, that day may not be that far off. As Dr King said, ‘I have a dream.’ And, had Dr King lived long enough to see how things have developed in Israel/Palestine, we all know for sure which side of this debate he would be on now.

Love
Roger

Here’s a short response to Waters:

Dear Roger,

It is great you read responses to your previous post; not so great you decided to delete those with whom you do not agree, even though they were respectfully put and about bridge-building.

You rattle off a number of places where human rights abuses occur, and granted the list was not exhaustive. But why not mention Gaza? After all, Hamas’ rule of terror on its own civilians is well documented. If you are truly motivated about helping palestinians as you claim – rather than hatred of Israel and quite possibly Jews – then I would have thought their plight at the hands of Hamas would be high on your agenda.

You mention standing in awe “of care givers, the U.N, Medicins Sans Frontiers, The Red Crescent, and all the other unsung heroes.” I won’t read in to you explicitly mentioning the Red Crescent in this very short list – after all, they are assisting in Syria – but I would have thought Israel would merit a mention for the same reason.

As for Dr King, yes, we do know which side of the debate he would be on.

No Love

David

P.S When do you plan on addressing the point-by-point demolition of the points you put forward in your previous note?

  1. Not only did Roger not mention Gaza but left out some other serious human rights violaters like Saudi-arabia, Qatar, DPR Korea or eritrea. These countries are certainly more deserving to be explicitly named as human rights violators than e.g. Belgium or France. – though I get the impression that those two were named because france has a nationawide ban of the full face covering and some areas of Belgium do as far as I know.

I’d also wish that Roger had double checked the all the names of the countries he names as human rights violatord. If he had he’d noticed that Holland is located in a country called the Netherlands and that the dutch province Holland had been divided and is still divided into the provinces South-Holland and North-Holland.
Of course the Netherlands are often just called Holland but if one goes through the trouble of spelling out USA one should also bother to get all the other nations’ names correctly.

    1. I think France and Belguim are listed as part of “colonial and imperialist powers of the last few centuries”. Not sure why none of those countries are singled out for a call for boycott – thst’s just how he rolls.

      1. though he only listed the ex-colonies of the UK, ironically not the UK; making e.g. Fiji one of the “colonial and imperialist powers of the last century”.
But that doesn’t surprise me much either.

And then regarding the boycott…. I’d have a very long list of countries that should be boycotted before a boycott of israel is to be considered in first place. But that’s a completely different story.

      1. strictly speaking Islam is not a country and as such can’t be featured in a list nations/territories that systematically violate human rights.

So Islam could only head the list of religions/ideologies/ideas that are human rights violators/dangerous for people/obstacles to peace.
But Roger certainly hasn’t got the balls to names islam as such

Actually MLK was very PRO ISRAEL indeed an ardent Zionist- wonder if Rog relates to this MLK comment:
“History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.”
