Notice how even the hotel doorman is in on the waving action.
Bonus: Can you guess which time of year this photo was taken?
Easy one. Easter. Palm branches on the roof of the building in back for Palm Sunday.
No sorry. It is Israel, where Easter is not widely celebrated. You are right that the palm fronds are the clue, but think of a JEWISH festival.
Sukkot(see the Sukkah and the fact it says October 2011)
Easter not widely celebrated in Israel?!!? What a tragedy. Whoever heard of Passover peeps? And if there were such a thing, what shape would they be in, Egyptian locusts? Give me an adorable bright yellow chick-shaped Easter peep, where you bite off his cute little head first. That’s Easter!
In his book Revolution in Judea http://www.amazon.com/Revolution-Judaea-Hyam-Maccoby/dp/080086784X, Hyam Maccoby posits that Jesus probably entered Jerusalem on Sukkot (not erev Pessach), when we have palm branches and say Hosha Na (and every year during the hoshanot I think of that and think he’s most probably correct).
So the connection between the Sukkot palm branches and the Easter palm branches is likely very close indeed!
