Soldiers Dance To The Beat Of A Different Drum

Everyone was sharing this clip last week.

Several IDF soldiers were break-dancing at the Central Bus Station while waiting for their buses. They took turns jumping into the circle and showing off their considerable dance skills to an enthusiastic crowd.

It was spontaneous. It was cool. And it was the IDF and Israelis love their chayalim, so the clip went viral.
But watching the clip, I couldn’t help thinking it was kind of grainy and the dancing wasn’t stellar.
Drummer
For me, it was all about the drummer. Man, can that guy ever percuss (is that even a word?). The dancers were okay, and they’re our guys, but with nothing but overturned buckets and some sticks, that drummer totally rocked the scene.

  1. IIRC, the original YouTube post referred to the amazing drummer, not the dancing. Yes, he was absolutely mind-blowing.

    1. The drummer pulled that dancing out of the soldiers with’s insistent consistent rhythm. Great moment when beating on pails and bits of broken grating can hush a large crowd and focus its attention just on the beat. Too bad it ends before the final “clash” or “ke-thwump.”. I’m sure there was a great roar from the crowd.

Hey, us Jews invented break dancing. 80 years ago, Curly of the Three Stooges was spinning on his ear.
