Hamas, Code Pink And Me

scarves
My souvenir keffiyeh from Hamas

In 2009, I was determined to go to Gaza. Yes, I had a “person of interest” there, a man who I had met online in 2001 and had corresponded with every day by phone calls, email and video calls. But I had also been doing research for years, and had decided that I was actually going to go.

As I asked around about which organization brought delegations to Gaza, I was always given the same answer: Code Pink.

I found their website and felt that this was a group with which I could be comfortable. I read about supporting human rights, justice and peace, and I was happy to find them. I had only read about them once before in my local newspaper when referenced by a woman who had recently returned from Gaza.

I contacted them, told them I wanted to go and got everything else ready.

I knew that this would be a journey of a lifetime.

When we met in Cairo, there was a problem with our buses. Apparently no one was willing to drive us to Al Arish. I had no idea what the problem was, but it was explained that because of Egypt’s relationship with Israel, they did not want to allow the transportation of peace activists to the Gaza border. After much discussion, Code Pink leader Medea Benjamin managed to find the group transportation.

It was an exciting trip! I had never been to Egypt before (never been out of North America actually), so it was long overdue for me to see a part of the world I had spent so many years learning about.

One of our first stops after entering the Gaza Strip was to attend a Meet & Greet with local officials. I was very surprised to find that this meant that we were meeting with Hamas. This didn’t make sense to me. I felt that perhaps this was just a formality to be polite, but the green Hamas caps donned by one of the Code Pink group leaders suggested a warmer relationship.

Our welcoming hosts gave us each a souvenir keffiyeh with the official Government of Palestine logo on it.

We were also treated to a dinner hosted by UNRWA. It was held at a compound in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. We were treated to music and dancing. Everyone was having a great time.

Later, we were advised not to stray from the group and not to travel alone because it was potentially very dangerous. I found this curious. I had always been told what a wonderful place this was, filled with nothing but the most wonderful people on the planet. What danger could there possibly be by being alone?

I wanted to see this place I had read so much about. I don’t like guided tours, so it was perfect for me to see an “unscripted” Gaza. Because once I got there, I was to marry my “person of interest.”

I had talked to others who knew of people who had done the same, and I knew for me, there was no conflict. I wanted to see and understand Gaza, and the fact there was an actual person there waiting for me rather than a guided tour didn’t seem problematic. I had still paid my own way, had made my own arrangements, was an adult, and at no time was told we couldn’t have personal reasons for going.

I had a great time there for those three weeks, but I could feel an almost palpable, heavy presence in the air. There was so much destruction left over from Operation Cast Lead. I couldn’t believe that after so long, there was still so much rubble lying around. It was depressing.

I was told it was because Israel doesn’t allow building supplies. Fine, but why no clean up? Every question I asked had an answer – and the answers were always about what Israel was withholding.

Later, much later, when I saw pictures of the concrete lined tunnels burrowing towards Israel, I couldn’t help but remember those crumbled buildings and wonder if the concrete could have been put to better use.

There were Hamas officers on almost every major intersection, and at many smaller intersections too. They scrutinized every passing car, stopping whoever they chose to question. I was always advised not to look at them, so as not to draw attention to us.

I thought that was odd. I had heard so much about the oppressive Israeli checkpoints throughout Gaza, and never expected to find similar Hamas installations once Israel had pulled out.

I didn’t understand what I was seeing, except in the context of the brutal clash between Hamas and Fatah in the wake of the 2006 election. It was 2009, and Hamas was making sure it exerted its control for everyone to see.

This was not what I was expecting. Why were Code Pink so friendly with these oppressors? One thing that had drawn me to Code Pink was their apparent rejection of oppression and war, yet I could see this regime certainly qualified as being oppressive.

It concerned me that Gazans still worried as they passed through Hamas checkpoints 3 years after the post election nightmare.

I had the opportunity to speak to one young man who had been a driver for Fatah. He was barely in his 20’s. When he drove me past the intersection where he had been abducted by Hamas, he told me his story.

He was pulled out of his car, taken to a mosque and tortured for about 15 hours. He was shot in both legs and then left. When he was in the hospital, his mother by his side, 2 members of Hamas came to kill him but his mom made a scene and they finally left him alone.

At the time I was there, he still had pain in his legs.

It is tragic to me that this Hamas, who obviously oppresses anyone who dares to disagree with them, would find such friendship in Code Pink or other such activists who claim to be struggling for peace.

Code Pink brought us on a bus tour of the Gaza Strip. Among the sites we saw, one was the former American International School. It was heartbreaking to see a school that was obviously bombed flat. Not one corner of the massive structure was left intact.

We were told that Israel bombed the school out of spite, to discourage Palestinians in every way. It was later that I learned that Israel believed that Hamas was sending rockets from the cover of the school that night.

What is the truth? I know it is unwise to question it. We may never actually know but there was never any other possibility presented in our tour except that Israel targeted civilian structures on purpose.

As I think back, it would have been more balanced to at least present another possibility.

I have to remain hopeful. Unlike those who shamelessly kiss up to Hamas, I do actually want to see a secure and just peace.

Code Pink is nothing more than an agitprop wing of Hamas and its mass murderers. They should all be shot.

Do you realize several of those in CP are Jewish. So you are asking for the murder of one of your kinfolk

      1. The really ironic thing is that if Hamas et al. ever get their way and institute a global caliphate, the Jews of Code Pink (and JVP and the rest) will be killed just like any and every other Jew. Having been anti-Zionist collaborators will not save them, because they will still be filthy kufars.

  2. Why can’t you take the heat ? Aren’t you supposedly feeling that you’re doing the right thing ? Why delete posts that clearly point out who you are ?

    1. Who is deleting posts? I have been very relaxed when it comes to keeping comments on here.

Of course, if you or others are going to just attack Linda, then I will summarily ban your ass.

      1. I’m not attacking anyone here , hey look closely I’m the one being attacked here and still I’m not using your venue to defend myself as I would think its a waste of time pointing the obvious , I am just trying to understand why Linda Todd whom I gave my last name to is involving me and my family in a false propaganda to publicly humiliate us through lies and allegations

          1. I was referring not only to this post but to your recent publishings on other sites too , I know that you had the nerve to speak about my dad , my father Linda , remember him ?! We seperated and both of us moved on , and one year later this online campaign starts and I hear about it from other people , people who once supported you and helped you through your many trials to enter Gaza. Again I wish you no harm , and again I hope your new life leads you to happiness and you finally find whatever you are seeking , I just can’t accept that you do that on my people’s and family’s account . I know now that it’s not solely you behind this new idealogy and it may very well be someone’s else’s influence over you , which is another reason to feel sad for you , not in a derogatory way as you may see that but genuinely sad . Do your thing Linda , again in the name of love I assume.

Hamoudi, save it! You wish me no harm??? Is that how you felt all the times you threatened to kill me? All the times you did all your other filth? I’m not going to get into it here, but don’t come on and try to sweet talk your way to innocence. As for your father, I have said nothing about him, only repeated what YOU told me.
          You don’t wish me harm…well good. You shouldn’t. You’ve done enough harm…

          1. Kill you ????? If I wanted you in harms way I could’ve abandoned you when you got sick . you are making a fool out of yourself and you still can’t see it , and it even bothers me to know what’s the reason behind your new persona . I’m gonna watch what’s gonna come out of it all , I hope I never see you humiliated

  3. To Mary Hughes Thompson in the FB comments: You’re not laughing your heads off at all. You’re letting the extra venom flow freely because you are threatened by anybody who opposes you, especially one of your own. Your vicious hatred cloaked in “human rights” terms is what’s truly sad in this scenario. Linda finally cleared the cobwebs from her eyes, but you continue to support a murderous, misogynist, xenophobic regime that you would never in a million years support if not for a shared interest in your common enemy – Israel. Linda should be an example to you, not an object of derision.

    1. Mary Hughes Thompson and Greta Berlin (side-show) are not worthy partners in peace. You are right to call it vicious hatred, for that is their forte.

I know, I was in Egypt when Linda was, met the same situation… unlike Linda, I was not allowed entrance into Gaza. Some 2k of us gathered and only 100 were permitted entrance. We did NOT enter Egypt properly, we entered as tourists… which in my mind was not proper. CP did NOT consult with the Egyptian Press (who would have willingly published our accts and been a buffer against any potential police/regime brutality… we could say many people suffered as a result of this).

I don’t totally agree with Linda, but what I do not support is any gang-bang-up on her to discredit her and shame her. Linda is NOT Israel and she is NOT Gaza… she is one person and entitled to her experience and opinion. To deny her that much, intimidate her, shame her as per your own judgment of her being ~ says more about you.

      I hate Hamas.

I would like to ask Mary, Greta and others who fancy themselves a “friend” of Vittorio Arrigoni, how do they live with themselves knowing the truth about how Hamas dealt with that murder… the murder or OUR FRIEND. I will tell you how they dealt with it, they ignored Hamas’ complicity, kissed-ass and at the same time flaunted images of themselves with the victim, Vittorio. Hamas and Justice are complete opposites.

I will refrain from commenting on Israel here, it isn’t my battle at this time… right now I am concerned about a woman who nearly died, has a beautiful vision of peace, lived many traumas (let’s not mention her horrid personal situation and those who turned a blind eye to abuse, the hypocrisy still makes my blood boil) and is entitled to ask her questions, make her observations and if you don’t like it ~ then don’t read it.

I, too, could question Linda… but I made a decision to be her friend, long ago. I wasn’t riddled with the idea she would be like me, think like me, agree with me or anything remotely as sad/pathetic as that dogmatic, myopic view of life/relationships. I trust she is doing her best, seeking peace and all the hate in the World would only encourage her more… so why are you so vehement?

Perhaps she is highlighting something you desperately want hidden.

      Got nerve?!

      1. LindaMarieTodd

I didn’t get into Gaza with that 100 either. I spent a month bouncing around Egypt (at my own expense) and finally returned to Canada.
I entered Gaza in June 2009. The Gaza Freedom March was in December 2009.
Mary doesn’t care what I’m actually saying. Apparently she isn’t letting facts get in the way of her insults.
The next time I went to Gaza was in 2010, when I organized my own group and went. That time, I worked at a school and spent my time and efforts getting to know real people, not the CP guided tour.

        1. Popeye Thesailorman

Just for clarification, I do believe what you are saying is true, I was taken aback by what i saw online, i.e. your book on Amazon. What I was trying to say was, I HOPE you’re telling the truth and the proof will be if you stick with your promises online.

          1. LindaMarieTodd

As far as I know, the book is the last thing. I have asked my publisher and was told it’s a process. I don’t see how complicated it could be. I was horrifed to see that “Christians United for Peace” had found my article that rationalized Palestinian violence and posted it and encouraged their members to repost it widely. Very disappointing. I have contacted the site it was on and have had it taken down. If people are reposting my stuff to spite me, I don’t know how to stop them. As for my book, at least (hopefully) I have some control over that.

  4. Popeye Thesailorman

Linda, we WANT to trust you and trust that what you tell us is the truth, however, on another message board you replied to someone who had reported that you have not one but TWO anti-Israel/PRO-hamas books on Amazon that you had suspended those books, which seems to be an untruth since those books are STILL up there on Amazon and you are still profiting from the sale of hatred towards Israel. Just what is the truth please? http://www.amazon.com/Love-Hamoudi-journey-faith-Strip-ebook/dp/B00ADQQYRE/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1401934262&sr=1-4&keywords=linda+todd

    1. LindaMarieTodd

I have only written one book, not two. I have asked my publisher to have it removed and he has told me he is working through the process. If there is more, please let me know. Some things take longer than others to address.
As for profit, no. Nothing. I have never received a penny from Amazon. I have not been doing any personal sales for about a year now.

      1. Linda you do not have to pander to the criticism from hate filled idiots. There is absolutely nothing wrong with making a buck, and if by writing books you sustain yourself, then all power to you.

            1. Popeye Thesailorman

Hamoudi is Linda’s Israel-Hating, Jew-Hating [& possibly killing] gazan husband who she writes about extensively in a book that is very much STILL on Amazon, full of anti-Israel screed: http://www.amazon.com/Love-Hamoudi-Linda-Todd-Gharib/dp/9490179108. As far as calling me a ‘hate filled idiot’ it is YOU, howard, who are the HATE FILLED IDIOT supporting this double agent of hate against Israel. A DIRECT quote from Linda Todd as to the CAUSE of ‘suicide bombings in Israel’ : “it is the ongoing inhumane illegal occupation of the Palestinian people
by the Israeli government and carried out by the brutal Israeli army” – from http://midislanders.com/2013/07/20/suggested-reading-someone-asked-me/

              1. Popeye Thesailorman

Linda Todd’s brother-in-law comments on her blog on the Times Of Israel: Omar Ghraieb Al-Azhar University “Ah!
Linda, all about lies and nothing but lies! I would expect for TOI and
the people who commented to do a little research about “Linda” before
publishing and commenting. She was married to an Iranian before my
brother, but it was a long time ago, she didnt get the idea of writing a
book called “For the love of Iran”, then she married my brother to milk
the cause of Palestine for fame and money and attention since she was
so desperate. She wrote a book about her love to Palestine and now she
is about to write about her love to Israel. Is this a person U wanna
trust? I say, give her some time before she flips against Israel for a
new “Love” lol. Linda went straight to Canada from Tel Aviv so I dont
know how she mentions she came back and couldnt talk about her time
there and she was between life and death so I wonder when she had
the time to look around. Regarding her time here, I accompanied her
everywhere, my brother got us a taxi EVERY DAY to take us around
everywhere she wanted to go, he never stopped her from going anywhere or
meeting anyone, he was busy with his work. Why all the lies? I guess
she thought she would use Israel to get back at my brother. Thats quiet
dumb. U had a deadly brain virus who caused U serious memory loss so I
guess U decided to live a fantasy and make up lies to fill the gap! I
feel sorry for U, really, you are so pathetic and dying for attention!
How can they trust a person who badmouthed people who took care of her
in Palestine when she was between life and death? Leave my family out or
I will sue U, dont be dumb enough to mess with us! I hope U get a life
before its too late, U r already half way through life arent U? I can
easily talk about ur relationship with ur family and kids but I was
raised well enough not to go there, but I will if I had to. I wanna
remind U that we know stuff 🙂 Oh and since U apologized for “oh I didnt
know the truth”, U need to do more apologizing for ur previous pro
Palestinian blog and how much U badmouthed Israelis and Jews. So U woke
up now? lol Lets see when U wake up again and again for new things and
causes that U can milk for money and fame. I cant believe I treated U
like a sister one day but my family raised me well. Poeple like U, with
no conscious and soul will never wake up hun.” ———————– Just what is the TRUTH Linda???

                1. That is utter bullshit. I know Omar, and if anyone is a poser it is him.

Let’s be honest ~ he’s gay and yet supports Hamas, so how far do we want to go with this? He did NOTHING for Linda when she was in need, and now he says she was trying to “milk” her husband and Gaza? That was Ken O’Keefe, remember the truth at least.

I knew Linda then, she wasn’t milking jack… she was fighting for her life, and her love. What has happened to her personal relationship is a glaring proof that many and much of what you find in Gaza is FRAUD. Her husband and his entire family were the opportunistic frauds in this story.

Message to Omar ~ you must be a squid, for you have no backbone. You lie and you cover-up what doesn’t suit you. When I was attacked in much the same way, you harbored friendships with the people of such low-class they resorted to threats ~ yet you did nothing.

Why not just go-out of your closet, and show the World who you really are ~ you’re not afraid of Hamas are you?

                  Got truth?
                  Give it up.

                  1. Popeye Thesailorman

Hey omar, now that you’ve been outed by your friend there, you may be wanting to beg Israel for political asylum since hamas will probably either shoot you, decapitate you, burn you, hang you from a bridge (or all 3) like they do to many gay people in the phony state of palestine. Thousands of Gay arab palestinians have FLED TO ISRAEL, knowing they will be treated like human beings there, where they have the FREEDOM to LIVE & BREATHE, not be hunted down like cattle.

Here is how it will be if hamas/$hariah law gets it’s way in the U.S. – and they boast about it at rallies in Washington, D.C., no less: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qxjocm5fCc

This is one man’s interpretation of the Koran. You choose all the wahibi interpretations. That is not why I am religious, Christianity and Judaism depending on your interpretation have not accepted homosexuality.

              2. LindaMarieTodd

That is precisly the article that I have had removed but it has been reposted by supposed “peace activists”. It is precisly the article I have apologized for and retracted. That article was written in either 2002 or 2003.
As for Omar’s statement, he is the brother of my abusive exhusband. I don’t expect any better from him.
When I was at my wits’ end and I begged for help with his brother, they gave nine and even blocked me on facebook.

Believe his bs. Omar and I were done with each other ages ago. Interesting that he has so much to say now but nothing to say when his brother was abusing me.

        1. dianesusanshammas

Yes as long as she propagates your Zionist point of view. How about when she was asking us to contribute to her book that supported Palestinians, I am sure you would not be so generous in your compliments to her and see it as a gesture of “sustaining” herself.

          1. LindaMarieTodd

Diane, I don’t know why you insist on claiming that I took donations to pay to produce my book. I did not. I paid all costs myself.
As I pay to support myself now and always have.

The fact that you made a one time donation to help my parents pay my huge medical bill 4 years ago does not make you an expert on every matter of business i have engaged in.

You clearly don’t care if you keep repeating false information.

            1. dianesusanshammas

Did I ever get a thank you from you? As well as you do not believe in free speech you delete everything you do not agree with? You seem to think that you are the only one that has suffered. I almost died from an operation in Spring 2002 of septicemia. I did it out of kindness for you but you forget about all of us as you consider us terrorist sympathizers. It really is pathetic. Come on Linda, you had people come to Palin’s house what just to have tea and cookies, you were hoping for donations, and what I hear some did give them to you. If you would just be honest about it, people would not be upset, but instead you dump on all of us that helped you. And I did lend a helping hand in Cairo to you and accompanying you to Palestinian Embassy as well as trying to find a ngo that would invite you to Gaza. I am not complaining at the time I was happy to do so, but it is disingenuous of you to not recognize those who helped you and say “sorry I have changed my mind” about my stance on Gaza.

              1. LindaMarieTodd

Ahhh..so you are bitter because you feel I did not care about you. Well, I am sorry you feel slighted but that is no excuse for you to go on a rampage of false information. Palin’s house??? Who??

I did thank you for the donation you sent to my parents. We were in contact about it because you wanted to make sure it arrived. What were you looking for? I am sorry for your brush in with death in 2002. I didn’t know you then and even if I did, not everyone is in a financial position to make donations of any kind.

I thanked you in Cairo!!! Diane!!! What more do you want!!! I do not owe you my life for a $20 taxi ride!!!! I have spent thousands of my own dollars in getting myself to and from the Middle East. My parents spent over $40,000 on my medical bills and on getting Hamoudi to Canada.

I have spend thousands of dollars supporting Hamoudi here in Canada. He left me just when he finally got working and YOU are going to hold me hostage over a donation and a $20 cab ride??? I thanked you at the time it happened.

I am allowed to continue to learn and grow and gain perspective in life without being held hostage over a donation and a cab ride!

Who helped me that I owe my life to??? NO ONE has helped more than my own parents – and they are happy for me!

Not to recognize those who have helped me? Again – what do you want from me? I have thanked those who have helped me at the time they helped me – years ago.

We have all grown and moved on. I have not talked to you in ages.

I have no posted anything on the subject for a very long time – probably over a year and now – now that I have had time to digest everything I have experienced in the past 4 years and sift it together with what I learned before that and have come to a point where I have made my own opinion, you want to hold me hostage over a donation and a $20 cab ride because I have changed my views?

                And you call me “disingenuous”?

                1. dianesusanshammas

All we are saying Linda is, we women, in particular, have been mistreated and cheated by men connected to the cause. Greta is one good example, she divorced her husband, do you see her abandoning the cause. I too had a bad experience with Arab men, I do not have to date them, but it has no bearing on when I see injustice that I carry on to eradicate it. This is all what I am saying.

                  1. LindaMarieTodd

Diane, in brief, you know nothi g about me beyond what your imagination is feeding you. You have gone from blasting outrageous lies about me around the internet to now trying to shush me as being no more than a confused, jilted woman.

I hope this is the final chapter in your harassment. I have been on a personal journey that you know nothing of. Nothing. My real friends, however do know and are not surprised at all.

Now, go back to your own life and stop parading around like you’re an expert on mine. I assure you, you are not.

In case you are inclined to keep lying about me, I am prepared to confront you on that. I am saying that kindly, as a public service announcement, if you will.

                    1. dianesusanshammas

I never said you were a jilted woman you are hallucinating. Others have said you were a jilted woman or insinuated you were. Please do not put words into my mouth.

                  2. Wrong… so it happened to you, it is ok? She should take the punishment as you did, as others did?

                    Wrong.

Let’s get Hammoudi on trial, please.
Because anything short of him and his family answering to this, is just more abuse.

Congratulations ~ I see your cognitive dissonance.

              2. LindaMarieTodd

Ahhhh Palin – my apologies. I don’t remember the last name of the woman whose home the evening gathering was at in L.A. Is that what you were referring to? No one “gave me” donations but a couple of people bought my book. You keep accusing me of looking for donations as if being poor is a crime. I did not look for any donations, just to be clear – but, like I said, I did sell a few copies of my book. Since when is an author selling her book subject to disparaging remarks? Do you honestly think I am the first person in the world ever to put their thoughts to paper and then later find that you have learned something more that is credible enough to cause you to rethink your former position?

                1. dianesusanshammas

Most people who put their name to paper as fervently as you did “For the Love of Hamoudi” do not waver 360 degrees.

                  1. Phyllis Kosen

It would be 180 degrees, not 360. If it was 360 degrees, Linda would still be agreeing with you.

                  2. I’d like to agree! Wow, shocked that would happen.

Good point, Dianesusanhammas… what happened? Should she keep the same PoV despite being abused? Is that what you suggest?

Have you asked Hammoudi why he embarrasses and shame the ENTIRE Palestinian community with his drug addiction, theft and outright profiteering from this woman… not to mention the horrible behavior as a man to a woman? Have you shame him for allowing such a reality to take place? Or are you just pissed now that it (naturally) begs her to question her entire experience.

                    What happened to Hammoudi?
How is Linda to blame for a 360 here? lol

So now you fall in-suit with Hamas, they like to blame women too. Top-job! Really, thank you.

                    1. dianesusanshammas

I do not care one thing about Hamoudi and Linda. As I recall Howard you have this fascination about her relationship with him and were asking me. I am just amazed how a person can be intensely interested in Palestine and then switches over with a love affair to Israel. Your blog is getting boring, and I am dropping out…Bug off.

                    2. dianesusanshammas

I am objective, with all couples, usually you can find fault. I disagree with Linda only on her swift and I think thoughtless conceptual switch. Again I have no interest in Linda’s personal life. And none of us should either. It is her business and Hamoudi’s no one else’s.

    2. dianesusanshammas

Right there shows that you are not sure of Linda. With friends like you who needs enemies. As much as I disagree with Linda and her strategies, she has made an effort to erase what she has done. Do I agree with it no, but shows how sick this blog is that you have a supporter in your camp and you continue to question….believe me Linda is on your side. Again, Linda look for other sites that will have an intelligent conversation about the Middle East. I expect better from you.

      1. I gave you much opportunity to comment, but you have gone too far with your personal attacks, including against this blog.

  5. These women commenting above – Western supposedly progressive women who fall in love with the Palestinian cause, and especially its Hamas manifestations, are so transparently pathetic and obvious.

The in-your-face highly misogynistic and patriarchal nature of Arab society fulfills their sexual fantasy for strong, dismissive alpha males who display the dark triad traits, behaviors which they just can’t get in their circles in the West. But the bonus for them is that it is perceived as a marginally “nonwhite” and “oppressed” culture which lets them engage in this very submissive fantasy without admitting it being as such – after all, they are working toward freedom and human rights for oppressed oriental bunnies, aren’t they!

The “Palestinian” cause conveniently supplies certain damaged Western women with the ability to chase their fantasies of dominant alpha males displaying dark triad personality traits while still maintaining the fiction, if only to themselves, that they are progressive and liberated women.

    1. Sounds like you have been reading a lot of Raphael Patai, the Arab mine. We are not monolithic. I happen to be of Lebanese heritage on my father’s side and proud of it just as some of you are to be Jewish. Please do not resort to stereotypes and deal with the issues.

    2. dianesusanshammas

Sounds like you have been reading Raphael Patai’s “Arab Mind” where stereotypes abound about Arabs. We are not a monolithic group. Yes I am a Western woman of Lebanese heritage on my paternal side. We come in all shapes, and colors, and ways of thinking. Just as some of these bloggers are Jewish and proud, I also am proud of my heritage. Stick with the issues of hand and leave the stereotypes of Arabs out of it.

      1. Popeye Thesailorman

Many Lebanese do not consider themselves arabs. A very distinct, large group of them believe they are of Phoenician ethnicity and DNA testing by and large has confirmed this. Arab hordes invaded Lebanon, along with dozens of other ethnic/native non-arab countries since the 7th century. They attempted (& COMPLETED) ethnic & religious/cultural cleansing of each people they invaded & dominated. The only true ‘apartheid’ found in the world today is in islamic nations where black people are not allowed to swim in the same swimming pools as what muslims and in $audi arabia they have separate highways ‘for muslims only’, as they are marked. If you do not believe me, look it up.

        1. dianesusanshammas

Yes, and those Lebanese are now considered collaborators with Israel, unfortunately as we have no diplomatic relations with them. DNA, sounds like eugenics theory to me popular in the late 19th century that waged a cultural war against African Americans and Jews…Arab hordes have invaded Tunisia, and parts of the MENA (Middle East North Africa) even Palestine why phenotypically why some folks are lighter in complexion than others. So what….next nonsense response

  6. Linda, I find your story fascinating. But I always wondered and maybe since you were “there”, you can answer my question.

How did the group, Code Pink or whichever one, manage to explain to you and the others who went with them that you had to go and help the people in Gaza, who have cars and television and mobile phones, while it is widely known that there are starving people in Africa. If one decides to help others because they “suffer” (as opposed to because one supports their ideology), why does one decide to help those who are on the richer half of the world population?

I have been in South Sudan and have met former slaves (of the Arabs) and war victims (of Arab wars against the black tribes). How do groups like Code Pink manage to ignore the truly suffering when they explain their followers that the Palestinians must be supported because they are “suffering”? How does one explain “suffering” that the “sufferers” themselves can talk about on the Internet?

So far I think that a latent racism is to blame, a feeling among western whites that it is proper for Africans to live in straw huts without electricity or water while white Arabs are considered to “suffer” when they have trouble importing luxury cars or have electricity blackouts for a few hours a day.

    1. dianesusanshammas

The Koran makes no distinction between black and white. Why do you think incarcerated African Americans, like Malcolm X embraced Islam. Christianity enslaved them. You need to visit South Carolina and go to Dafeskey Island, where tour guides informed in African American History will tell you that even after Antebellum the Black churches had as their pastor a white man. Read also Yvonne Haddad, an academic (PhD) on Islam in the West that discusses the above. In Africa, there were African slave owners that sold their people to the Americas. In Gaza, it is manmade poverty brought on by Israeli occupation and Egypt’s complicity. As far as electricity, oh, well Palestinians go without almost a day without electricity–lucky if they get 6 hours. Please if you haven’t lived there like I have (and yes, I have spent a lot of time in Israel), please do not comment –Live there and then give your comments.

      1. The Arabs started the African slave trade and STILL practice it today in places like Mauretania. The idea of a black person converting to Islam, the very same religious group who started and still practice the African slave trade, is ludicrous.

As for your claim that Islam makes no racial distinction, perhaps you are aware that there are hotels in Saudi Arabia where blacks and South Asians are not allowed in the pool. Arab countries are some of the most racist on Earth.

        1. dianesusanshammas

We are talking about the Koran not what culturally separate Arab regimes do. The same with the Torah they preach humanity but do not think it jibes with what Israeli right wing are doing now in Israel/Historic Palestine

          1. You’re a hypocrite and a propagandist. You say “Christianity” enslaved blacks, while saying the Koran doesn’t discriminate and that there’s a difference between the Koran and what Arab regimes do.

            1. dianesusanshammas

I teach American Ethnic Studies, and also I have read the Koran, so unless you have done either of those, please do not express an opinion on a topic that you know nothing about. You are relying on your own ignorant racism.

              1. So “Christianity” didn’t enslave blacks then. Also I had no idea you were of Arab descent nor does it mean anything, so typical to drag race into this instead of responding to the blatant intellectual dishonesty I pointed to in your posts. And by the way I have two MA degrees in the humanities and starting a PhD in the fall (after taking off for two years to work and pay down loans). I was surrounded by lunatics like you during my studies. You sound absolutely pathetic with your boasts and arguments from authority. People like you have destroyed the humanities. For shame.

              2. Right. Only you, diane, are allowed to express opinions because you can’t tolerate anyone who doesn’t fall in line with your own narrow view of the world and history. And you can’t imagine that anyone else can be as smart or knowledgeable as you. Best to tell everyone to stfu, and toss around your “impressive” credentials – as if they mean anything. Nobody cares about your PhD. It only means you are educated beyond your intelligence.

                1. dianesusanshammas

On the contrary, you folks have a very narrow view of the world, and try to spout knowledge that you do not possess, so I have to correct you when you traipse into an area of expertise that I have.
Actually it is easy to argue with you all and not someone else who is more knowledgeable—takes less of my time this way.

              3. Where do you teach, what age level? That isn’t enough information to just wash-off someone’s commentary; do you think?

I could say anything here, many people do.
What are your credentials that would solicit to shut-down someone’s voice? Curious.

                1. dianesusanshammas

You want my curriculum vitae, that will prove my credentials. I have to flaunt them as I said previously the other poster was spouting knowledge off that was incorrect singling Arabs out in enslaving Africans—I teach American Ethnic Studies–he also was insinuating that Christianity played no role in enslaving African Americans. Otherwise I have no reason to bring up my credentials.
This site is right wing and it really is fun to point out the loopholes in your thinking with very little effort.

                  1. Elizabeth Schwartz

I’m a feminist, a SOCIALIST (and guess which is the only country in the middle east founded on Socialist principles???) an advocate for interfaith cooperation and a staunch ally of the future state of Palestine. I believe and work with every fiber of my being for civil liberties for all (again, another reason why I support Israel). I haven’t dismissed anyone’s point of view on this thread by either accusing them of a world view tainted solely by a breakup with a man (which I find shockingly misogynist) or by flaunting a higher level of education. I don’t think any of that makes me right wing, but your positions sure as hell don’t make you a feminist, a socialist or even progressive.

                    1. dianesusanshammas

And a racist. Just because you are a feminist and socialist ==there are leftists abound in Israel, but they do not believe in Palestinians’ human rights. Nice try, go peddle your bs to someone else.

I am sorry you are not convincing, if you even defending those on this right wing rag, Times of Israel, you are not for human rights for Palestinians.

                    2. Elizabeth Schwartz

Well, so much for MY human rights, I guess, including my basic right to disagree with the much (SELF) vaunted PhD. You have been trying to personally insult everyone on this thread who doesn’t agree with you – a great paradigm for everything that is wrong in the Middle East, including the unending conflicts and human rights violations that DON’T involve Israel – except, of course, as a distraction. No one who supports Hamas cares about the human rights of Palestinians.

            2. dianesusanshammas

Yes, just like in our country in the U.S. Our Republican right wingers who swear that they are Christians do they follow the human rights as prophesized by Jesus in the Bible. Go down to South Carolina and sniff around you have no idea about American History. Unlucky for you I have a PhD, and teach American Ethnic Studies and my sister is a world authority in Colonial History. We are both professors. Sit down little girl/boy.

              1. Elizabeth Schwartz

Where was the discrimination against Arab women, the incomprehension of anyone of Arab descent’s being educated, or anything else? You’re strafing.

          2. Popeye Thesailorman

            There was no palestine until the british invented that name as a political name for their ‘mandate of palestine’ which included all of present day jordan, in 1917 and was known as a ‘palestine’ for the JEWISH nation. Syria, Lebanon, Iraq & Saudi Arabia were divided up from the Turkish Ottoman Empire to be ethnic arab homelands at the same time. The area known historically as Roman ‘palestine’ was legally known as the Vilayet of Beirut, Southern Syria, Ottoman Empire’ for more than a hundred years prior to WWI as arabic maps prove. ‘palestinian’ is a fraudulent name used by nazis like yourself to discriminate and oppress Jews who have lived in the land continually for 3,000+ years. 2,000 of those years they have been repeatedly ethnically cleansed by invading muslim hordes from arabia and half a dozen other arab countries. PLO leader Zuheir Mohsen, here quoted in a March 1977 interview with the Dutch newspaper Trouw tells the truth: “The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct Palestinian people to oppose Zionism. For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan.” He is not the only palestinian who claims palestinian people are bogus;
Hamas leader: “Half of Palestinians are Egyptian, the other half Saudi” : [youtube dot com] /watch?v=sAfENxzv2mc or here if this forum allows it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAfENxzv2mc

            1. Popeye Thesailorman

The soviet union’s secret police INVENTED modern day ‘palestinians’ in 1964, as told by the man who was in on it:
SOVIET RUSSIA, THE CREATORS OF THE PLO AND THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE by Wallace Edward Brand
How Soviet Russia created the “peace process” and incited the Muslim world against the US.
The “peace process” is a charade. The revelations of the highest ranking Soviet bloc defector, Major General Ion Mihai Pacepa, show that the peace process is, and has from the outset, been nothing but a charade.
It all started with the creation of a fictitious “Palestinian
People” who allegedly demand political self determination. This
collective noun was created by the Soviet disinformation masters in 1964 when they created the Palestinian Liberation Organization, the “PLO”. The term “Palestinian People” as a descriptive of Arabs in Palestine appeared for the first time in the preamble of the 1964 PLO Charter, drafted in Moscow. The Charter was affirmed by the first 422 members of the Palestinian National Council, handpicked by the KGB.
Why in Moscow? The 1960s and 1970s were the years the Soviets were in the business of creating “liberation organizations”: for Palestine and Bolivia in 1964, Columbia 1965, in the 70s “The Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia” that bombed US airline offices in Europe and “The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine that bombed
Israelis.” But the PLO, was by far its most enduring success.
Pacepa has written[1] “For nearly four decades, the PLO has been the largest, wealthiest and most politically connected terrorist organization in the world. For most of that time, it was held in the firm grip of Yasser Arafat’s iron fist. But Arafat was not the fierce, independent actor he posed as; he was completely dependent on the Soviet KGB and its surrogate
Warsaw Pact intelligence services for arms, training, logistical
              support, funds, and direction.”

According to Pacepa his KGB handlers included Vasali Samoylenko, Vladimir Buljakov, and Soviet “Ambassador” Alexander Soldatov. Arafat’s closest friend and head of PLO intelligence, Hani Hassan, was actually an agent of the DIE, the Romanian subsidiary of the KGB.

In the PLO Charter preamble they actually had to use the phrase “Palestinian Arab People” to exclude those Jews who had retained a presence in Palestine since Biblical times and had been a majority population in Jerusalem as early as 1845. Romanian Communist dictator Ceausescu, at Soviet urging, persuaded Arafat to abandon his claim of wanting to annihilate the Jews in Israel in favor of “liberating the Palestinian People” in Israel. Why? A brilliant strategy. That was the first step in reframing the conflict between the Arabs and the Jews from religious jihad to secular nationalism in a quest for political self determination, a
posture far less offensive to the West. By focusing on political
liberation for a small group of Arabs, it ignored the fact that Israel
is a small state whose existence is threatened by the surrounding Arab
states. These are states that outnumber its population many fold with
Muslims who are commanded by an extreme form of their religion to kill
infidels to take back land formerly controlled by Muslims. It creates
Jews, ignoring they are a small group, as oppressors of an even smaller
discrete group of Arabs, described in the Charter as Palestinian Arabs
excluding those in Jordan, Judea, Samaria and Gaza. (After the 1967
war, and the Isreali conquest of Judea, Samaria and Gaza, the exclusions
for Arabs in those areas were removed the Charter). It transforms the
              Jews from victims to oppressors.

The Arabs in Palestine had been engaged in religious jihad at least
since 1929 when they massacred 69 Jews in Hebron, egged on by Haj Amin
al Husseini, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood. He had imported the
Brotherhood’s vicious jihadist doctrines into Palestine from Egypt.
Now, mirabile dictu, jihad became “liberation”. The religiously
motivated attacks on Jews were turned into “resistance” from
oppression motivated by secular nationalism. This will explain to you
why, whenever the Arabs attacked the Jews thereafter, they said they
              were “resisting”.

In his book, History Upside Down,[2] David Meir Levi puts it
              this way:

“Arafat was particularly struck by Ho Chi Minh’s success in mobilizing
left-wing sympathizers in Europe and the United States, where activists
on American campuses, enthusiastically following the [propaganda] line
of North Vietnamese operatives, had succeeded in reframing the Vietnam
war from a Communist assault on the south to a struggle for national
liberation. Ho’s chief strategist, General Giap, made it clear to Arafat
and his lieutenants that in order to succeed, they too needed to
redefine the terms of their struggle. Giap’s counsel was simple but
profound: the PLO needed to work in a way that concealed its real goals,
permitted strategic deception, and gave the appearance of moderation:

“Stop talking about annihilating Israel and instead turn your
terror war into a struggle for human rights. Then you will have the
American people eating out of your hand.”

At the same time that he was getting advice from General Giap,
Arafat was also being tutored by Muhammad Yazid, who had been minister
of information in two Algerian wartime governments (1958-1962): wipe out
the argument that Israel is a small state whose existence is threatened
by the Arab states, or the reduction of the Palestinian problem to a
question of refugees; instead, present the Palestinian struggle as a
struggle for liberation like the others. Wipe out the impression that in
the struggle between the Palestinians and the Zionists, the Zionist is
the underdog. Now it is the Arab who is oppressed and victimized in his
existence because he is not only facing the Zionists but also world
              imperialism.

To make sure that they followed this advice, the KGB put Arafat and
his adjutants into the hands of a master of propaganda: Nicolai
              Ceausescu, president-for-life of Romania.

For the next few years, Ceausescu hosted Arafat frequently and gave
him lessons on how to apply the advice of Giap, Yazid, and others in
the Soviet orbit. Arafat’s personal “handler,” Ion Mihai Pacepa, the
head of the Romanian military intelligence, had to work hard on his
sometimes unruly protege. Pacepa later recorded a number of sessions
during which Arafat railed against Ceausescu’s injunctions that the
PLO should present itself as a people’s revolutionary army striving to
right wrongs and free the oppressed: he wanted only to obliterate
Israel. Gradually, though, Ceausescu’s lessons in Machiavellian
statecraft sank in. During his early Lebanon years, Arafat developed
propaganda tactics that would allow him to create the image of a
homeless people oppressed by a colonial power. This makeover would
serve him well in the west for decades to come.”

Brezhnev, according to Pacepa, carried it one step farther when
Carter came into office. He suggested to Pacepa that Carter might fall
for Yassir Arafat PRETENDING to renounce violence and pretending to
seek peace negotiations. He persuaded Arafat to do this by telling him
that the West would shower him with gold and glory. It did. Billions
of dollars and a Nobel prize. Ceausescu warned Arafat he would have to
pretend over and over again. Abbas is still pretending.

James Woolsey, former CIA director has been reported as stating
that Pacepa is credible. Pacepa’s account is also corroborated by
Zahir Muhsein, a member of the PLO executive board. In an interview by
the Dutch newspaper Trouw in 1977, he stated that there is no
such thing as the “Palestinian People”, that the term’s use is a
political ploy, and there is no quest for political self-determination
              — that as soon as the Jews have been wiped out, sovereignty would be
turned over to Jordan. Hafez Assad also has stated there was no
“Palestinian People”; that prior to 1964 the Arabs in Palestine called
              themselves “citizens of Greater Syria”.

During WWI the British offered the local Arabs self determination
if they helped in the war against the Ottoman Empire but the local
Arabs fought on the side of the Ottomans to the eternal gratitude of the
              Turks.

This is from Pacepa’s article in National Review Online[3].

“In 1972, the Kremlin decided to turn the whole Islamic world against
Israel and the U.S. As KGB chairman Yury Andropov told me [Pacepa], a
billion adversaries could inflict far greater damage on America than
could a few millions. We needed to instill a Nazi-style hatred for the
Jews throughout the Islamic world, and to turn this weapon of the
emotions into a terrorist bloodbath against Israel and its main
supporter, the United States. No one within the American/Zionist sphere
of influence should any longer feel safe.

“According to Andropov, the Islamic world was a waiting petri dish
in which we could nurture a virulent strain of America-hatred, grown
from the bacterium of Marxist-Leninist thought. Islamic anti-Semitism
ran deep. The Muslims had a taste for nationalism, jingoism, and
victimology. Their illiterate, oppressed mobs could be whipped up to a
              fever pitch.”

Again from the National Review Online article, Pacepa writes:[3]

“In the mid 1970s, the KGB ordered my [Rumanian intelligence] service,
the DIE — along with other East European sister services — to scour
the country for trusted party activists belonging to various Islamic
ethnic groups, train them in disinformation and terrorist operations,
and infiltrate them into the countries of our “sphere of influence.”
Their task was to export a rabid, demented hatred for American Zionism
by manipulating the ancestral abhorrence for Jews felt by the people
in that part of the world. Before I left Romania for good, in 1978, my
DIE had dispatched around 500 such undercover agents to Islamic
countries. According to a rough estimate received from Moscow, by 1978
the whole Soviet-bloc intelligence community had sent some 4,000 such
agents of influence into the Islamic world.

In the mid-1970s we also started showering the Islamic world with
an Arabic translation of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, a
tsarist Russian forgery that had been used by Hitler as the foundation
for his anti-Semitic philosophy. We also disseminated a KGB-fabricated
“documentary” paper in Arabic alleging that Israel and its main
supporter, the United States, were Zionist countries dedicated to
converting the Islamic world into a Jewish colony.

We in the Soviet bloc tried to conquer minds, because we knew we
could not win any military battles. It is hard to say what exactly are
the lasting effects of operation SIG. But the cumulative effect of
disseminating hundreds of thousands of Protocols in the Islamic world
and portraying Israel and the United States as Islam’s deadly enemies
              was surely not constructive.”

You can find additional revelations in Pacepa’s biography, Red
Horizons and in a Front Page magazine interview with
              him:[4].

              Conclusion

The current violence both in Israel and around the rest of the world
is a third wave of Islamic Jihad or Holy War, with the violence in
Israel disguised by the Soviets as secular nationalism in a quest for
political self determination. As a consequence, Israel is the West’s
first line of defense. Russia is still the enemy of Israel and the
              United States.

            2. dianesusanshammas

More bullshit that you are spewing. And I believe in the desert bloom, and that my ancestors never lived in Lebanon but is part of Eretz Israel. I have photos to show my grandparents owned the land and the deeds are under their names…what an ignorant person you are.

              1. dianesusanshammas

If Britain had not “invented” your Palestine there would not have been an Israel. Balfour did you a mitzvah.

                1. actually, balfor did G-d’s will

had he not, someone else would and israel would still exist

oh, but like all good muslims, you deny the divinity of the Torah and think that jews rewrote it

                  1. dianesusanshammas

                    Again, your ignorance is breathtaking,
who said I was Muslim, and if I were, so what. “Good Muslim” sounds really racist to me. Keeping a score card on your personal assassinations of me, and following me. I would worry if I were you…you are harassing me, and one more, watch your back.

              2. Popeye Thesailorman

Just because your pea-sized, marijuana-schizophrenia-induced brain can only spew out arab-revi$ioni$t, petrodollar-paid for LIE$ does not give you claim to anything, least of which is any truth whatsoever. You just love arab cok so much you will do anything for the satanic race of murderers. The truth is even spiritually being revealed around the world, there is nothing you can do about it to stop it, TRUTH IS TRUTH. Israel wins the argument HANDS DOWN, over & over again. All of the false propaganda inflicted in that tiny brain of yours is starting to self destruct… you are palpably feeling it that is why you are so desperate to keep spewing your vicious lies. ‘palestine’ is a lie. ‘palestine’ is an extension of the german nazi party and you are it’s co-conspirator.

        2. dianesusanshammas

Shall we talk about Israel only roads, Israeli Arabs, which are Palestinians, having to get off the bus instead of staying on the bus for IDF to check their IDS as they do internationals like me. Shall I even inject two personal experiences, where they allow me in Israel en route to Gaza, but say the process will take longer as I have an Arab surname. My father never was a well known civic leader, and not involved in Palestinian affairs, born in the USA, as the Bruce Springsteen song goes, and of course myself. It is useless to reason with you folks as you are one conceptual track, a single track and God help us if you would get derailed.

          1. Israel only roads? What’s wrong with that when there’s a military conflict that Yasser Arafat launched in 2000? Why were there no checkpoints or such roads or a security fence in the past? There are checkpoints anywhere there is conflict. Only with Israel is it demonized though, because Jews are forbidden from defending themselves. Palestinian terrorism is what caused it. Do you take off your shoes at the airport? The attempted shoebomber did that.

          2. Yes, indeed, let’s talk about the separate roads and the security wall. Let’s talk about why they were put in place. What led to those measures, diane? And what has been the outcome of those measures? The outcome has been a dramatic reduction in vicious, violent, murderous attacks by Palestinians on Israelis. I don’t need to tell you that because you already know it. But, no doubt, you will put an interesting spin on the facts so that you can continue to “educate” people about “demonic, satanic, tyrannical, Nazi” Israel. Go for it.

        3. dianesusanshammas

Again the Koran differs from the cultural institutions of the country. Sorry. Read the Koran, then we will speak. In fact, a step farther all the Holy Books, Bible (Old Testament and New Testament) and Torah are open to various interpretations. That is why religious scholars exist. One more reason why all religions have caused wars. Look what is happening in India with their right wing Hindu party.

      2. the black muslim movement actually had very little to do with islam
it was/is a black nationalist movement that uses the trappings of islam as a cover and a tax dodge…malcolm learned this and that is why he left the movement

it wasnt till recently, when american islam became radicalized, that black muslims were even accepted as actual muslims by the greater community

    2. LindaMarieTodd

There you go, Andrew. Diane answered it. Because people like her and groups like Code Pink only see and talk about what they want to and not the grandiose lifestyles the wealthy in Gaza. There is very little balance and everytime I would find articles about such, I would be told they were lies and propaganda. I hadn’t been there until 2009 – so I didn’t know what to believe. After having been there in June 2009, I saw mostly the destruction. It was immense, there is not doubt. I was not shown how the “other half” lives. It wasn’t until 2010 that I really go to see a more balanced view of Gaza. It was then that I got to understand more about a lot of things. I got very sick in 2010 and so I spent the next 2-3 years recovering in Canada. I have had the past year to do a lot of thinking and comparing my notes. After hearing so much about what NOT to believe about propaganda demonizing Gaza, I decided that my next move had to be to go to Israel, since clearly I could not believe anything I read or heard. So I went with an open mind but remembering what I had been told about Israel. I understand so much more about propaganda now and I have developed quite an allergy.

      1. dianesusanshammas

I saw photos where you lived in Hassan Showa’s house/apartment building of course you are going to see the one percent and also in the Mina where internationals live. Go the refugee camps, please do not tell me that all of them live high on the hog…Rimal where you stayed and I lived are not exactly representative of Gaza. Go to North Gaza (not Mataf or the hotels Hamas have put up) and in the Old City—people who live there it is not exactly swanky…No it is not like Africa, but the point is Gazans, all of them could live better if not under the Israeli occupation. Sara Roy, a Jewish academic wrote about the dedevelopment imposed on Palestinians in Gaza as far back as the late 90s—wake up….only a few can afford the prices sold in these high scaled markets. God knows what they do with the remaining stock. When I went to refugees’ homes we were served very little meat. Kusa or what I refer to stuffed squash always was full of vegetables and rice not ground lamb or beef. This is filler food that makes you fat. And these homes were not vegetarian, they even told me they could not afford to buy meat…I spent 3 months each of the last three years in Gaza (2010-2012) and visited for 2 weeks in 2013 on my way to Lebanon. So please don’t lead your fav bloggers think that I do not know what I am talking about!!1

        1. Dianesusanhammas… would you care to explain your position on Hamas.

It seems to me you support them.
          Can you explain that?

          How does one support Hamas?
How does an Islamic faction justify killing, oppression? Isn’t that a conflict of interest?

Just curious, because I am very much pro human rights, and have long championed for Gaza, myself… but will never be able to extend that consideration to Hamas (personal reasons having to do with a murdered friend).

I knew then they were dogmatic fools, and I knew then that the people had little choice, but hoped that it would be different… it isn’t different, all you and others are saying is that at worst they are the same as Israel, but the contempt shown to Israel trumps theirs, why is that? Is it that hard to find the fault on both? Reminds me of people here in the US who trumpet Obama, when he is as big a ‘killer’ as Bush. Hypocrisy abounds!

At the very least they should be afforded a fair judgment as well, are they really the epitome of ‘government’?

          1. dianesusanshammas

I am going to answer and ask you the following in a succinct manner. Do you realize Israel supported Hamas openly in the 1980s in order to derail and dispose of Fatah. No, I do not support Hamas, and because it seems by your conversation that you have not been to Gaza and/or stayed there for some time, you will learn most of the youth and/or their parents do not support them. This you only learn by spending time with people and holding conversations.

            1. Elizabeth Schwartz

Earlier in this thread you described Hamas as the legitimate government in Gaza. But neither you nor “most of the youth and/or their parents” do not support them. Would that be because they prolong the violence against/with Israel, they steal international aid money (the kind that might even pay for the occasional lamb dinner!) or they kill opposition? Sorry, I don’t have PhD like you, but you’re giving me whiplash.

      2. But what I find fascinating is that even the worst pictures I have seen of Gaza look better than the best places I have personally seen in South Sudan at the border to Arab Sudan.

As for Diane, yes, Gazans could live better. But (apart from the fact that Gaza is not occupied, or did you see any Israelis in Gaza) why should they? What on earth dictates that Gazans must live better than Africans?

The Africans of South Sudan are victims of Arab aggression, like the Israelis. But in contrast to the Israelis they lost. We can see in South Sudan what the Arabs would have done to the Jews if they had won. (Heck, we can see it in Kurdistan too.) So what reason is there to send any aid to the Gazans who are already better off than the South Sudanese victims of Hamas’ allies in Sudan?

  7. Good morning, I have awoken to a flood of comments re Linda’s 180 degree turn, or as one commentor pointed out her 360 turn. LOL.
Seems that dianesusanshammas is particularly disturbed by Linda’s comments, feeling somehow jilted by not being thanked enough for footing a $20 taxi bill?
Eventually dianesusanshammas cleared the air by stating that her father was a Lebanese diplomat. It made me chuckle to read this. Knowing that the Lebanese have treated the Pals in their midst like dirt. The Lebanese have killed far more Pals then Israel, and to this day they have not been given citizenship and many are forced to live in segregated refugee camps.
But of course, the middle eastern diplomat is incapable of seeing his own acts of injustice, and to free himself from guilt has to propagate a warped sense of justice, and of course blame Israel for both the Pal and Lebanese ills.
Sure it is pathetic and disturbing, but this is how the Arab world works, take no responsibility for one’s actions and look for an easy scapegoat to both blame and hate.
Linda I do not know you, and yes I hope your new way of thinking is real. If anything you have made a good life move by leaving this group of angry women radicals, and hopefully your taste in men will develop into something more healthy and good for you.
    Good luck.

    1. dianesusanshammas

Howard, you obviously have a reading problem, my father’s first cousin was the diplomat and well known. If you would take the time to read and not have your mouth flapping you will note that I have told you twice that I am also critical of Arab regimes and policies in Lebanon. Are you suffering from Alzheimer’s?

      1. dianesusanshammas

It is funny how some Israelis like to deflect from their own government’s brutality of Palestinians by always turning to human rights abuses in other countries, Middle East, China, etc.. Is this supposed to mean that it is okay for Israel to do it just because another country does it

        1. its funny how some arabs like to deflect from their own people’s brutal treatment of jews throughout the ages by turning to alleged human rights abuses in israel

is this supposed to mean that its ok to treat jews as dhimmi?

    2. dianesusanshammas

A lot of people are disturbed, and Linda better stop as she is angering a lot of people. Me personally I care less about her she does not affect me.

      1. Linda better stop what – expressing her opinions? Telling her story … because she is “angering a lot of people”? That almost sounds like a threat.

        1. Popeye Thesailorman

it IS a threat… everybody, please report this b*yotch to discus. Threatening someones life over their opinion? disgusting dianita

        2. It is indeed a threat.

If anything were to happen to Linda (God forbid), I’m sure the authorities will know who to contact first.

I’m sure the Israellycool moderators are keeping screen captures in case Dr. Shammas, Ph.D., Humanitarian, decides to remove her incrimonating comments.

    3. More misinformation, get your facts right, Howie, my father was not a diplomat, his first cousin was. Read carefully what I wrote.

  8. Ryan Bellerose

this is quite pathetic really, we have a lebanese woman who keeps claiming Israel is harsh to the Palestinians when her own country treated and treats them far worse than israel, we have people attacking a woman for changing her point of view and actually attacking her personally because she no longer agrees with them.

heres a thought, worry more about what you can do to actually help the situation instead of being like the baba yagas mary and greasy greta, instead of pretending that Gaza is poor because of Israel, take some responsibility, Gaza is poor because Hamas is a terror org not a government and frankly they have had issues with terrorism since the 1950’s long before any occupation

    1. are you speaking of ms shammas?

she is a professional jew hater and a serial liar

she has organized jew hate fests at places like uci

she taught hamas how to endear themselves to american lefties by crafting the meme that their struggle is comparable to that of american blacks and hispanics

she has never actually stepped foot in israel proper

        1. Please show me Diane where in my comments I have said that I hate Arabs? Or are you just projecting?

          1. i believe that was directed at me

she is just peeved because i refuse to call her “doctor”:

liberal arts phd’s from usc are a joke

            she is a dress maker

            1. Walt, Prof of “ethnic studies”, talk about a bullshit joke of a subject. She obviously spends her time trying to pit ethnic groups against each other rather than bringing them together. It is the way of air-headed radicals.

              1. most private universities create the ethnic studies dept to make money

that, and they need fake courses to give to their football and hoop players

vast majority of lib arts phd’s arent worth the paper they are printed on

                1. dianesusanshammas

Wrong loser, Walt. Public universities have them. You are right winger, and like most have as much of a brain as my little finger. Waste of time to speak to idiots. Goodbye, loser.

              2. dianesusanshammas

I have no interest in what you have achieved, but I know one thing you would not be on this blog if you had anything to do but spy on others…. I am on here to defend my friends and myself from Linda’s defamation. Otherwise, it is a waste of time with you cretins. Spouting racism is not exactly elevating, get lost.

            2. dianesusanshammas

I do not have a liberal arts doctoral degree loser and not a dress maker–if you want to call me a designer I was in footwear–you are not a good researcher obviously. I owned all the companies. GO shinny up a pole, loser . What have you achieved all I can see is you are boorish racist and sexist to boot.

              1. one of my friend’s parents were dress makers and earned a very good living at a very noble craft…and nothing feminine about being a dress maker….many of the people involved in the shmata biz are male….so it is you who are sexist

and im sorry, you do not have a degree in the hard sciences, therefore, like the degree in psychology that i hold, it is liberal arts

and its “shimmy up a pole” shinny is a racist term

more proof that your degree in ethnic studies is worthless
btw, the fact that i hate you has nothing to do with the fact that you are half a swede….i hate you because you are a filthy jew hating jihadist

                1. dianesusanshammas

Yes, and women’s shoes, where I did most of my designing. And the most racist and “balls to the wall” as you seem like a raging male—not very nice to women I can add with all my years in the biz. Next nonsense response, if time was money I would be so rich.

            3. dianesusanshammas

I was not a dressmaker. Again you do not know what you are talking about…Do you have a job, seems not as all you do is spy on a person. I have no interest in you or anyone else on this blog…

          2. dianesusanshammas

Do you know what microagressions are. If not study Solórzano from UCLA, innuendos, off the cuff comments. You do not like Arabs, this whole blog reeks of anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab racism and stereotypes.

            1. The difference between us Dianne, is I have to live next door to these folks, and as long as they call for “Death to the Yahud” I will seek to have them shut down.
You on the otherhand approach this conflict with the warped perspective of an hysterical fan. The Pals simply do not hold up to any of the criteria that your group pretends to stand for. Which leads many of us to deem you racists and pigs.
You attack dog approach toward Linda, shows that you are not above eating your own.

            1. Interesting Dianne, now you have taken to call everyone who dislikes your racist and hostile posts, a “loser”. That is very adolescent of you. Sounds as if your gum chewing students have influenced you more than you have them.
Your reaction to Linda, the one who had the courage to leave the flock, is very telling. You hate and dispise her, and have no trouble making up all sorts of lies about her.
Is this what contemporary Leftie academia has come to?
              Very sad indeed.

Is this what contemporary Leftie academia has come to?
              Very sad indeed.

              1. Howard, I find her reaction is fascinating. She’s lashing out and posting comment after insulting comment, filled with sexism and racism and other bigotries, yet she seems to think that SHE’s the evolved, progressive, “accepting” one.

The self-delusion is strong with this one, young padewan.

                1. But it is kind of fun to watch how Dr. Diane S.Hammas, PhD’s thinly spackled veneer of “rational scholarship” cracks and crumbles to expose the real face beneath.

                2. It is a fact that supporting the Palestinians leads feminists and gays often into the land of hypocrisy.
How does someone possibly support an organization that supports treating women as chattel? How does a “feminist woman” support a society that experienced a huge jump in “Honor Killings” of Pal women??
These same people who claim to care about Gays, seem to shut their eyes and hearts to reality of Gay men being dragged down the street towed from the back of UN provided pick ups and SUV’s?
These same women, most of them Americans, give lip service to “democracy” and then support a violent organization that immediately afte winning an election, then go out and wipe out (murder) the opposition.
Seems one of the fundamentals of being a “Woman in Pink” is to attack women who disagree with them, support a racist organization that openly calls for the murder of Jews, treats Gays like fodder, and continue to keep women down.
Dianne has no problem with all this, because she is well aware of the hypocrite that she is.
She is the racist here, and like a small barking dog, lashes out at anyone who finds her arguments bizarre and ironic.

                  1. Popeye Thesailorman

i hope every lesbian & gay who support palestine go to gaza or the west bank and MAKE SURE THEY HOLD HANDS with their boyfriend/girlfriends… i just hope they don’t lose there heads over it, but that would be wishful thinking

          1. dianesusanshammas

Yeah I can image coworkers that are Palestinians, housies. Sounds like yeah I got a black friend…seems like you love them, yeah like they are your bitch to do your work.

            1. just like i can imagine the jews you consider friends

and as arabs of the former mandate didnt consider themselves palestinian till 1964, i dont recognize that designation as it is a creation of colonialist white pigs

              like you

            2. Popeye Thesailorman

Hey diane, here’s a joke: what do fred flinstone and a palestinian suicide bomber’s neighbors have in common? – – –

They both can look out their windows & see Rubble.

        2. Elizabeth Schwartz

Supporting a future state of Palestine doesn’t make you an Israel-hater. It makes you someone who supports a future state of Palestine. Supporting Israel doesn’t make you an Arab-hater. It just makes you a supporter of Israel. Supporting Israel doesn’t make you Israeli, or even Jewish. Being a Jew-hater makes you a Jew-hater. Hope we cleared that up.

      1. dianesusanshammas

Another Alzheimer victim. If you folks would read my comments early on in this blog. I told you that I have visited Israel many times, recently and the first time in 1978. I also lived in Gaza for three months at a time for the last 3 years, doing research for a ngo and teaching at one of the universities there. it really gets boring having to repeat myself.

        1. dianesusanshammas

wHAT IS ASTOUNDING ABOUT ALL OF YOU IS THAT YOU ASSUME THINGS ABOUT A PERSON WITHOUT HAVING ANY KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THEIR LIFE, AND THEN WHEN I STATE SOMETHING YOU COMPLETELY TURN IT AROUND.

          1. you have a very long internet footprint

so i know much more about you then you think i do

go back to making dresses and really help the world

            1. dianesusanshammas

I guess you have nothing better to do than follow people’s personal histories. As my father used to say “BIG PEOPLE TALK ABOUT IDEAS” little people talk about other people. Bug off, loser.

                1. dianesusanshammas

Linda, as a person who knew you, we are really asking you to not be involved with these kinds of people. Even if you grew disenchanted with Palestine, there are other Israeli/Middle East blog sites you can voice your opinion. These folks are so “down and dirty” which they get so low to look up your photos and make filthy remarks. One such one would apply to you as they are talking about girth. I plead with you if you have something important to say do it elsewhere where there is spirited and intelligent discourse.

              1. you told us to look you up

                btw….you cant scrub the google

                the truth is out there
and where ever you go…ill be right behind you

so mind your tweets and fb posts, sweetie

                1. dianesusanshammas

I think this deserves a legal action. This is considered a threat to my person if you continue I am warning you in advance.

              2. Nobody’s talking about you, they are talking to you because you are here spreading your propaganda.

                1. dianesusanshammas

Oh really, and you are not spreading your propaganda that now even the Obama administration, your erstwhile ally, is not buying.

                  1. Ally? Obama is anything but. Never has been. And no, I am not spreading propaganda. I am telling it like it is. You are not interested in seeing the reality of the situation – you are interested in vilifying Israel as some demonic entity of unprecedented evil. When you so grossly distort reality , you damage both your cause and your credibility.

Anybody with an ounce of intellectual honesty and objective scholarship would see that your wild accusations against Israel are preposterous. That’s why Israelis are always inviting foreigners to come and actually visit the country. Your b.s. can only take hold with 2 types of people: 1) those who are all too eager to believe the worst about Israel/Jews, and/or 2) those who simply have never looked deeply into the subject.

The Palestinians are victims of their cynical, corrupt , and wicked leadership, and also of their own festering hatred. They are fed a steady diet of hate from early childhood at school, on TV shows, in songs, and in glorification of violent murderers as national heroes. This is not propaganda — this is heavily documented fact, readily available all over youtube and elsewhere. They could have lived in peace and prosperity many times over – with an advanced country as their neighbour, thrilled to help. Yes, thrilled to help – because Israelis want quiet, and know that happy, prosperous people have little time for scheming about Israel’s total destruction. If only Palestinian leadership and the general Arab world would stop using the Palestinians as a device for their aspirations.

I don’t expect you to see any of this, though, because your insides have rotted from hate as well. If you are really interested in truth, you will seek it and find it. But you’re not interested in truth. You’re interested in propagating lies because when facts are not on your side, you need to make them up. You will never succeed in your mission, but knock yourself out trying.

              3. “As my father used to say “BIG PEOPLE TALK ABOUT IDEAS” little people talk about other people. Bug off, loser.”

                Hahahahahahahahahaha!

                That is too funny!

Sweetie-pie Dr. Shammas, Ph.D., I suggest you go read some of your OWN comments and see what a “loser” really looks like–by YOUR OWN FATHER’S DEFINITION!

            2. I am glad you find my “footprint” interesting. Do you have a job, as I think not as you seem to have a lot of time on your hands to invade people’s privacy. You are blocked.

    2. dianesusanshammas

Read the history of the blogs, I have stated twice I am critical of policies in Arab countries. My specialization in education is the Middle East…I present at first tier educational conferences. You are not telling me something I don’t know about Lebanon. I guess you are suffering from Alzheimer’s like Howard. I have had to repeat myself three times now. Boring…

        1. dianesusanshammas

Honey bunch, I was born with dark hair and olive skin. I am older now and my hair is grey. I was mistaken at your age for Mexican, Jewish, and Italian. Go shove it up your ass. And if you keep following me, I will report you. Leave me alone, loser.

          1. you also turned white

funny….my bro in law’s mother, a Moroccan jew, is still as dark today as she was when she was 20

do you have a skin condition?

            1. dianesusanshammas

Yes, don’t sit in the sun and have no wrinkles. I am warning you I am keeping track of your below the belt comments.

          1. nope

have an MS in school psychology

            thats a masters of SCIENCE

means i did actual research that was peer reviewed to get my degree

and no, dont remember where i was published….was some non apa rinky dink journal

now, im a systems administrator and actually do good as i work in the health care industry

            1. dianesusanshammas

I did peer research and peer review. Next nonsense response. Really you better stop when you are well I would not say ahead. Keeping track and one more, off to the lawyer on Monday.

      1. Ryan Bellerose

i actually went and researched you Dianne, you are a hateful brainwashed idiot. I was in shock reading some of the effluence you post and are responsible for. I believe it stems from guilt over how your own people treated the arabs now known as Palestinians. to ignore that treatment and attack israel constantly, shows some serious delusions

        1. dianesusanshammas

Read my previous response to either you or another misinformed and cannot read—have addressed this point. Next nonsense response–wow if I could earn enough money to combat each of your idiotic responses.

      2. Elizabeth Schwartz

As a specialist in education in the Middle East, how do you feel about how non-Muslims are denied entry into many Arab institutions? How do you feel about how Palestinian children are indoctrinated into hating Israel?

        1. dianesusanshammas

Again, I am talking to imbeciles. You have no idea what you are talking about. AUC and AUB invite international scholars, as well as other scholars in Egypt, Lebanon, etc. to teach in universities. It is breathtaking the ignorance abounds on this blog. Linda is with good company, she has found probably the most ignorant of Israel.

          1. Elizabeth Schwartz

I’m American. It really troubles you to accept the possibility that non-Israelis support Israel?

    3. dianesusanshammas

1/2 Lebanese ancestry, the other is Swedish. I have repeated this twice earlier as you all get every information I say “wrong”. Alzheimer’s strikes again.

          1. im a jew….so not white at all

just ask the white devils who have persecuted my people, you pig

and yes, the above comment was direct comment on your girth

i admit it..i am prejudiced against the obese

            1. dianesusanshammas

Read most of the literature coming out about “whiteness” it does not include Jews unless they are folks of color who were born into or adopted the religion. Looking at your photo it does not seem you are exactly a person of color. Arabs and Arab Americans are considered “not quite white” which I might debate as there are some of color, phenotypically. Because pre 9/11 and post-9/11 prejudice existed–Syrian-Lebanese coming to the country were considered Asians, and feared deportation–these are the Lebanese that Israelis tend to like as they are Christian, includes my family–but you hate me so go figure–and both periods pre and post 9/11 civil rights of Arab Americans were severely curtailed. I am not here to educate you, time means money and I get paid for this kind of thing.

            2. dianesusanshammas

Sorry, white boy that you were bullied by rednecks when you are a redneck yourself. As you are such a coward and do not post photos the micro picture of you looks like someone scary, possibly bald, and shall I say developing a double chin. You are now considered a stalker. Pretty sad you are spying on me. Now for the count, you are not only a racist, posing as someone of color, which you are not at least by your convenient “druid like garb” hood over your head, and I see a white man peeking out. You also like to put down women’s weight. Linda, if you are reading this is not a put down to you, so will preface with this comment, if Waltie here hates heavy set women, Linda is much more heftier than I am. So why don’t you express your same prejudice to her. Your insults are quite convenient, you cannot have a decent argument on politics, instead you browbeat a woman, make her think less of herself and then I will bring her on my side of thinking. Nice try, Waltie.
As for my weight, I was thin for years, I had a serious operation in 2003 which I have gained weight and an immune system problem, I was a size 4-6 up until my mid 40s. Apart from my weight still have a high HDL and echo cardiograms each year come out perfect because I walk and hike, and eat only fish and vegetables for the last 30 years. So yes, overweight is not healthy, and this is not the usual me. But to use ad hominem insults is not exactly attractive when you are trying to make a point. BTW I am not obese, according to my weight and height, doctor reports state only overweight yes….Please do not invade into my privacy as I have now blocked you and if you are resourceful to keep following me this will end up into a lawsuit. I am starting to think you are a pervert. Please again a warning.

            1. dianesusanshammas

Look yourself in the mirror you might scream and see a devil, haha. What I love about this sight you don’t have to think you can just multi-task and repel the barbs.

          2. Now you have taken to the childish retort, no you not me bullshit. This is a sign of a lack of creativity.

    4. dianesusanshammas

I think I have addressed this response earlier from not you another blogger–as I am not keeping count of all the nonsense responses I receive—as much as I appreciate the beauty of Lebanon and its people, I do not respect some of their civil rights policy towards Lebanon. I repeatedly have stated so. Next nonsense response.

  12. Dianne has been calling everyone who finds her stupid and vile, a sufferer of Alzheimer’s. Not something you would expect from a Professor of Ethnic Studies, well actually being a Prof of Ethnic studies is like an architect of sand boxes.

She is attacking folks for not reading and re-reading her words, thus confusing some of the facts related to her gene pool. Yet our Prof of Hate, cannot seem to get it straight that Gaza IS NOT OCCUPIED!

The realization that a university found her worthy of offering a professorship is worrying, that this is the character type that supports the Palestinians means that peace is very… very far off, if ever. It would be best if such idiots and morons would keep their noses out the affairs of others.

    1. ms shammas has a problem…she claims one thing here, yet her record shows her to be a jihadist with a phd

    2. dianesusanshammas

You don’t read well. What do you want me to say as I would my students, to reread what I wrote as their comments. When you start misinforming like my father was a diplomat, I said it was my father’s first cousin, and stating other facts you either scantily read or did not care to remember, yes, I will response in kind that maybe you are suffering from memory loss.

  13. Mary Hughes Thompson is a rabid antisemite
We followed her for a short while before concluding that she has no ‘ value ‘ . Just a rancid Jew hating SOB . Move on . Don’t engage .
