Jewish Comedian Elon Gold Victim Of Hate “Incident”

Jewish comedian Elon Gold is a helluva funny guy. I saw his show in Israel last year (and reviewed it here), but if you still don’t believe me, check this out.

I am telling you this because something not at all funny happened to him recently. In fact, something downright disgusting and disturbing.

elon-goldThis past Friday night, instead of having my usual guests for a festive Friday night dinner in my home, I had three compassionate LAPD officers standing in my kitchen explaining the difference between a “hate crime” and a “hate incident.” My family was the victim of the latter.

We were walking home in Los Angeles after a Friday night dinner at a friend’s house, dressed nicely for shabbat, easily identifiable as a Jewish family. We waited for a light to change on a corner of a major intersection when a black Mercedes SUV pulled up alongside us. Four middle eastern men in their 20’s were in the car. The one in the back rolled down his window and yelled, “Free Palestine!”

I immediately turned to face them, knowing I was in danger and like the Rabbi who was gunned down in Miami on his way to synagogue, this was the beginning of either a hate crime or a hate incident, but either way, hate was coming our way. We all know too well, that “Free Palestine” means free Palestine from every Jew. As they chant “Free Palestine, from the river to the sea.” That doesn’t mean they want a two state solution, they want Hitler’s final solution and a Jew-free middle east.

Then this Arab young man opened the car door, stepped onto the street and yelled at me, my wife and four young children: “I hope your children die! Just like you are killing children in Gaza!”

We all stood silently in utter horror and fear.

Then he got back in the Mercedes and they drove off. We were in a state of complete shock. My ten year old daughter immediately started crying and couldn’t stop. She kept yelling, “I’m scared.” My 5 year old daughter asked me why they want her to die? My other kids were too rattled to say anything.

I was stunned that I can no longer feel safe walking on shabbat with my family in my city. I kept reading about all the anti-semitism all over Europe, but here in these United States? That my innocent children had to be exposed to this level of anti-semitism has shaken me to my core. These people weren’t just yelling “Jew bastard” as I’d experienced growing up in the Bronx, they were wishing my children dead, right to their angelic faces. This was beyond appalling.

I couldn’t believe that they were filled with such hatred and ignorance and that someone could go as far as wishing my children dead and blaming me for the death of children in Gaza. Me?! I’ve been killing children in Gaza? I’m a comedian. The only killing I’m personally responsible for is the killing of the audiences I’ve performed for. And the only “bombing” I’m guilty of are those rare sets where I don’t quite connect with the crowd.

Read the entire thing. Besides being a funny guy, Elon shows he does serious just as well, demonstrating he truly gets it when it comes to Israel and the war we are facing.

this is a product of the Roger Waters and the other “Westerners” who are making it ok for there to be anti-semitism and anti-Israel propaganda allowed in the west, any blood on any Jew in the western world is on their hands and I am hoping they are on the receiving end

The only part of his story I find confusing is the part where he says he and his family were easily identifiable as Jewish by way they were dressed on a Friday night in that part of the Los Angeles area. What specifically were he and his family wearing that made them easily identifiable as Jewish?

I am guessing they were dressed nicely and walking, with Elon and his sons wearing Kippot (Jewish skullcaps)

        Ignorant statement

Have you ever tried to park in LA? People need to walk blocks from their parking space to their destination.

Google is an amazing resource. Look up Shabbat, consider it, education on other types of people that you share the earth with.
Also, if you reread the 1st sentence in his 2nd paragraph (I’ll make it easy, here)
We were walking home in Los Angeles after a Friday night dinner at a friend’s house, dressed nicely for shabbat, easily identifiable as a Jewish family.
You also mention “that part of L.A.”
What part are you referring too?
Gold made zero mention as to what part he was in.

It was an innocent question. I am not Jewish and maybe not as aware of certain aspects of Jewish identity as Jews are. You seem hostile and argumentative that I even asked the question.

        • dabney

Totally legitimate question, Jim. They may have been wearing Kippas, or maybe it was just a good guess by the thugs cruising around, hoping to spot some Jews. When you see a whole family dressed nicely, walking on a Friday night, there’s a decent chance you’re looking at Jews.

More than likely it was on the Westside (ie. Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Westwood, Bel-Air, etc). This is where the vast majorities of temples are in LA.

I can only tell you what most people around here wear on Friday night: business suit, white shirt (often with cufflinks), tie (usually), dress shoes, and often a fedora but always a yarmulke, women in dresses or skirt and top, often with their hair covered, when the rest of the world is in jeans or shorts, a printed T-shirt and athletic shoes or flip flops, and bare headed or wearing a baseball cap. It’s pretty obvious to anyone who knows what they are looking for or at.

It does seem like the guys in the Mercedes were looking for trouble and had a problem with Jews, not just Israel.

So now these American leftist Jews begin to wake up and see that a Jew is a Jew, no matter how hard he tries to assimilate and distance himself from his people.

Here’s my question rather than have people transplanted to America drive out an American citizen, why are people of this bigoted nature allowed to act on their hatred in our country? Elon Gold should be allowed to stay in America, not be driven out of it by the same people who want to drive his cousins out of Israel.
