Video: Waving An ISIS Flag vs Waving An Israeli Flag At Berkeley

Just watch.

I had to laugh when he was told off about the cigarette.

Then I realized this is all seriously f%$&!@#d up (hat tip: CableLegend).

    1. There was a bit more traffic in Sproul Plaza, but there’s nothing special about Sproul that makes people angry bigots. The crowd is no different 300 feet up the hill.

        1. Really, that makes no sense. Why would it matter? A few hundred feet apart, that’s all. He wasn’t yelled at whatsoever, at least in the video, for waving the ISIS flag. If anything, people on the steps of Sproul are ignored because that’s where the crazies go.

          1. No, zoharli is absolutely correct. The part of campus where he wove the ISIS flag is very different than Sproul Plaza. The traffic that goes by the Campanielle is more made up of students, particularly engineering/science based majors since that is the direction towards all of those buildings. Sproul Plaza attracts a more outspoken, liberal population for sure. Plus, a lot of nonstudents walk through that area. Think about this: if it didn’t matter why would he have changed locations?

            1. He may have changed locations so as not to be seen by the same people but with different flags.

A more objective experiment would be to go to the same location at the same time on different days and show the whole ten minutes or however long with *all* positive and negative comments. This video is heavily edited too, remember.

          2. What the video proves is that if you wave a flag outside the zone of political discourse no political discourse will develop and if you wave it in the zone of political discourse then political discourse will develop.

            1. All of campus and downtown Berkeley is a zone of political discourse. He was right in front of the philosophy building, Moses Hall. You’re just making an excuse.

              1. Why would I make an excuse? I’m a pro-Israel activist. For the sake of truth it should be known that this is one of the most misleading videos ever produced. Go wave an ISIS flag on Sproul plaza and see what happens, if you’re brave enough.

          3. Huge difference. One has huge amounts of foot traffic and one is right in front of the physics building where people walk by on their way to class. Maybe I’m narrowminded and bigoted but I’d rather get my education than argue with some crazy guy waving a flag.

            1. Americans are Retarded

it’s not about arguing like i said earlier to someone, it’s about the sheer amount of opinions he received while holding the israeli flag compared to the isis flag, stop trying cover your ignorance, fucking Americans, the bane of humanity.

What does anybody expect? It’s Berkeley, for heaven sakes. The results would be different if he did this at Pepperdine.

  2. more than the screeches at the Israeli flag, it shocked me how a couple of students either supported on said “right on!” to the ISIS flag… Incredible.
As many have said here, a university can’t teach one common sense.

  3. This is the stupidest piece of manipulative propaganda that I’ve ever seen and such an embarrassment to Jewish people like me who prefer to have a truth and honest dialogue rather than inflame “my” side with ridiculous videos. I’m a news junkie and the fact that this was the flag of IS wasn’t immediately apparent to me. It’s even less obvious when I’m walking from class to class immersed in my own life. The Israeli flag on the other side is very recognizable and whether this nerd wants to admit it or not, the State of Israel is not beyond reproach. Anyone who believes that someone siding against its policies is anti-Israel is manipulating the conversation. This concept of not being allowed to question policies and speak out against a cruel occupation especially when some asshole is spewing rhetoric in the middle of campus is one that belongs in Russia or Saudi Arabia, not in America. This guys is an idiot but I see that based on these comments he’s resonating with a lot of you. I’ll bet you’re all also the geniuses who gave us our new Republican Senate. The State of Israel is a modern miracle that doesn’t benefit when all of us American Jews ignore our responsibility to be citizens that see what’s truly there rather than what was 50 years ago and before we decided that after thousands of years of persecution we had the right to occupy millions.

  4. Give ISIL 70 years and I’m sure my fellow bears will recognize that random shit flag and take 10 seconds to yell at the dbag waving it too.

  5. OK – no denominators. We didn’t see all the footage, just what the filmmakers chose to show us. Did nobody give him a hard time about the ISIS flag? Did they poll the people walking by and ask them if they recognized the ISIS flag? Also, for me personally, if I see somebody waving an ISIS flag, I WILL NOT engage him. My personal prejudice is that anyone willing to be pro-ISIS in public in America is probably crazy and best avoided. I might be wrong but I’m going to err on the side of personal safety. Now my other bias is that it would be relatively safe to engage in a debate with someone who was pro-Israel in public in America. But, putting my personal reactions aside, what did the students at Berkeley were actually do? The ones shown agreeing with the ISIS flag were actually just agreeing with the statement that American imperialism kills people. Saying “right on” to that is not being pro-ISIS. What would have happened if he’d said the same thing while waving an Israeli flag? We don’t know because either the flag waver didn’t do it, or the filmmakers didn’t show it. Since the actions taken by the flag waver were not equal. you can’t compare the reactions of the passersby on an equal basis either.

    1. I appreciate that you freely admit that ISIS supporters are dangerous deranged individuals to be avoided, but concede that Israeli supporters can be engaged (no matter the content of your comment) and you don’t have to worry for your physical safety. That points out loads.

  6. Waving a largely unknown flag in the least populated areas of campus versus waving a flag that elicits very divisive commentary midday on Sproul. Really… If anyone believes this is a proportionate sampling of the Cal student body, their just justifying their already ingrained beliefs. As a Cal student I support the right of pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian viewpoints to be discussed. Its obvious what you’re trying to do here. That, and the editing gives it away. Propagandist bullshit.

Has nobody noticed that in the very centre of the ugly black Isis flag is the word “jew”?
Quite a tribute from a mortal enemy.
