The official opening ceremony for Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Day, in Israel is held at night at Yad Vashem. The theme this year was “The Anguish of Liberation and the Return to Life – Seventy Years Since the End of World War II.”

After speeches, dramatic readings, musical interludes, and memorial torches lit, these two videos at the end were some of the most powerful moments.

Listening to the powerful voice of IDF Chief Cantor Lt. Col Shai Abramson saying the memorial prayer for six million, it is hard not to tear.

It was immediately followed by Haitkva led by Avraham Tal, to end the program.

We remember,

followed by hope.
