WATCH: Gal Gadot Speaks To The UN

As Deebo already blogged, the UN named Wonder Woman as UN honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Women and Girls. That meant Israeli actress Gal Gadot got to speak at the UN. As Ynet reported:

UN officials at a ceremony formalizing the appointment said Wonder Woman is known for her commitment to justice, peace and equality.

And for having no connection to the holy place known in Judaism as the Temple Mount (sorry, I could not resist).

The choice of Wonder Woman has been met with opposition – but it has nothing to do with Gal Gadot being Israeli.

But the selection has been met with opposition, and nearly 1,000 people signed an online petition asking UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to reconsider the choice.

“Although the original creators may have intended Wonder Woman to represent a strong and independent ‘warrior’ woman with a feminist message, the reality is that the character’s current iteration is that of a large breasted, white woman of impossible proportions, scantily clad in a shimmery, thigh-baring body suit,” the petition reads.

Meanwhile, here is Gal Gadot’s address.

But if that is too formal for you, you might enjoy this more.
