Dear antisemites behind the fliers distributed at the University of Illinois at Chicago this week,
Privilege is defined as “a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group of people.”
My people, the Jews, have not been granted any such privileges. Quite the opposite, actually.
Since being exiled from our indigenous homeland almost 2,000 years ago, we have been living in different countries in the Diaspora, where the pattern has more or less repeated itself. We start off disadvantaged, limited as a minority in the society. But through our culture of intellectual pursuit, hard work, dedication and family – and, dare I say it, G-d’s blessing – we succeed. Resentment ensues, and we end up being persecuted and thrown out of the country. And that’s if we are lucky enough not to be killed.
Rinse, wash, repeat.
And true to form, many Jews in the US have become successful, despite starting off as poor immigrants, with only the clothes on their back.
So what your brochure is actually illustrating is Jewish success despite the odds. A culture of succeeding in the face of being disadvantaged, not privileged.
In this way, the antisemitic thinking you display is not far off from the kind of thinking that tells us Jews that we are colonizing Israel, our own homeland. The kind of thinking that looks at people who have succeeded and paints them as automatic aggressors, persecutors of the ostensibly weaker party. What you and these people fail to realize is the weaker party are to blame for their own predicament, rather than because of those who succeed despite the odds. In this case, their failure can be blamed on their preoccupation with trying to destroy us, rather than spending their time on trying to build a better future with us.
Sure, it is easier to have a scapegoat, but perhaps taking the easy way out instead of doing the hard work is part of the problem here.
So thanks for your fliers. I hope they encourage everyone to understand we all have the ability to transcend unprivileged backgrounds.
It never ends, and this side of Moshiach, it’s never going to end. Sometimes I wonder if it’ll end even then.
If it doesn’t end then, he wasn’t Moshiach.
Good point!
Ah, yes, The Jews using the term “goyim” is racist but terms like gringo and haole are uniquely cultured and if you don’t like them you are the racist, no double standard. (I have no issue with any of these terms, others might, but be consistent people)
Leftists have a blindside for racism emanating from minority groups. That’s how the pernicious violent crime rate perpetrated by Muslim immigrants was able to explode in Europe.
The only thing that’s stranded is your micro brain.
Sorry about the auto-correct, thanks for the eloquent response.
Actually, “Goyim” is not a derogatory/racist term. It is merely the plural form of the word “Nation” as in Isaiah’s “Lo yis el goy el goy herev” – Nation shall not lift up a sword against Nation.
Moreover a “Goy” is considered righteous (and having a place in the ‘World to come’ – as opposed to vanishing into nothingness {Sheol}) simply by observing the seven Noahide laws. While a Jew, to be considered righteous and having a place in the World to come, must observe an additional 606 laws. (Such a privilege all this extra homework.)
The derogatory term we use to describe non-Jews is Shegetz. The word shegetz, like its feminine counterpart shiksa, comes from the Hebrew sheketz (“detestable,” “abomination”, “loathed”, “blemish”) and literally translates as “rascal”, “scoundrel” or “varmint”
Of course such nuance is usually lost on shkotzim. I don’t say that in a mean-spirited way. Some of my best friends are Shkotzim.
I understand that, in fact the Jews are even referred to as a goy for time to time in tanach, I’m just pointing out that it isn’t the only term for “not us” out there.
I’m having trouble with the math this moron used in concocting her racist bit of tripe. 44% of 2% is 0.88%. Which means that in an America of only 1000 there would only be 8.8 Jews.
Not only is that not enough for a minyan; but it isn’t enough to do their taxes, take out their gall bladders, give them their colonoscopies, write their contracts and keep them out of jail.
I don’t mean to carp, but the idea that “Goyim are not to scale” is giving me a haddock.
Yeah, you showed all the antisemites who read your blog.
JTA pointed out they are also lying with the numbers, household income above 100,000 is actually not that much, and doesn’t put you in the 1%, but rather the crucial for the existence of any free country- middle class.
