A useful tip for the bloggers out there

I have been asked many times how I embed a Youtube video in such a way that it starts from a particular timestamp.

Update by Brian of London: there’s also another way involving a right click on the video itself, scroll down for details.

Here’s what you do:

Old Embed Code: Add &start=n, where n is the time in seconds into the video from which you want it to start.

New Embed Code: Add #t=n, where n is the time in seconds into the video from which you want it to start.

Example: To start this video from 10 minutes and 25 seconds in, you would first calculate the time in seconds:

10 minutes and 25 seconds = (10×60) + 25 = 625 seconds

and then use the following embed code.

Old Embed Code

<object width=”420″ height=”315″><param name=”movie” value=”http://www.youtube.com/v/xo79vPW3lkE?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&start=625“></param><param name=”allowFullScreen” value=”true”></param><param name=”allowscriptaccess” value=”always”></param><embed src=”http://www.youtube.com/v/xo79vPW3lkE?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&start=625” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” width=”420″ height=”315″ allowscriptaccess=”always” allowfullscreen=”true”></embed></object>

New Embed Code

<iframe width=”420″ height=”315″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/xo79vPW3lkE#t=625” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>

Here’s the result:

Don’t thank me, I’m a giver

Brian of London adds: if you have more recent versions of the Adobe Flash player installed (you should have the latest one because anything else will be wide open to all sorts of security problems) you can right click on any playing YouTube video and see the following menu. Just choose “Copy video URL at current time” and away you go. If you’re on more recent versions of WordPress or other popular blogging tools you can often paste this URL straight into your blog.

Don’t thank me either!

If lack of looks, talent, employment and clear sexual designation was not bad enough, the BDS-holes have apparently encountered a new obstacle: artists who don’t like having their work ripped off (hat tip: Walt).

Boycott Israel group posts silent video after YouTube removes original

MEDIA CONTACT: info [at] adalahny.org

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 5, New York NY – After receiving over 30,000 views in just two days, a video of New York human rights activists commemorating Palestinian Land Day by calling on Americans to boycott Israel was taken down on the evening of April 1st by YouTube. Today, Adalah-NY posted a silent version of the video on YouTube. In the video, originally posted on March 30, more than 30 dancers accompanied by the Rude Mechanical Orchestra surprised crowds at New York’s bustling Grand Central Terminal with an unannounced song and dance.

Reposted silent flash mob video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZulhUV4rQM

YouTube notification of removal of original video due to “copyright claim”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myt23xhMEMk

The flash mob started with a handful of people and within a minute saw dozens more singing and dancing to a parody of the tune of “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey. “Don’t stop boycottin’,” they sang, “Think when you’re shopping.” They called out companies benefiting from Israeli occupation, and celebrated Roger Waters, Gil Scott Heron, and Elvis Costello, who are among the many artists to have heeded the Palestinian civil society call to boycott Israel until it complies with international law.

On April 1, Adalah-NY discovered that YouTube had taken the video down after receiving a claim of copyright infringement. Hannah Mermelstein from Adalah-NY commented, “The Global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement is growing in influence and power as evidenced by the popularity of our video. We are dismayed that our video has been removed from YouTube and are working to make it available again. We fear that this is but another example of attempts to silence calls for justice and Palestinian rights. But the BDS movement to hold Israel accountable for its crimes against Palestinians will not be silenced.”

In January, YouTube removed a Saint Louis Boycott Motorola Flash Mob video that parodied the Beyonce/Lady Gaga song “Telephone” as the video reached 35,000 views. As was the case with the Saint Louis flash mob video, there are tens of parody versions of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” currently posted on YouTube. In another attempt to silence efforts at shedding light on Israeli crimes, in March, a number of groups and the Israeli government attempted to prevent the screening of “Miral,” a film about Palestinian women living under Israeli military occupation, at the United Nations in New York.

The Global BDS Day of Action on Land Day is part of the growing international movement calling for a boycott of Israel until it respects the basic rights of Palestinians living under occupation, within Israel, and in exile. The Palestinian-led BDS movement is a moral, nonviolent campaign for human rights modeled on the worldwide boycott movement that helped to bring an end to apartheid in South Africa.

Sounds to me like they are blaming Israel for trying to silence them.

Whoever it is needs to be thanked. No-one should be subjected to hearing these people sing.

Honest Reporting reports that the vile Facebook group calling for a Third Intifada has been closed down.

Despite previous statements saying they would monitor but not remove the controversial Facebook group calling for a Third Intifada, Facebook administrators shut down the group early Tuesday morning in response to enormous pressure from pro-Israel activists. All links to the group now go to users personal Facebook profile.

The group had been calling for a march on Israel to “liberate” Palestine beginning on May 15. It remains to be seen how Facebook will respond if similar groups emerge with similar message of a Third Intifada.

New media expert Andre Oboler, one of the first to discover the group was down, told HonestReporting that Facebook made the correct decision shutting down the group. “It’s about time,” he said. “Facebook needs to learn to distinguish between the right to ‘attack’ conceptual ideas, and the ‘wrong’ of attacking people be it because of their race, religion, nationality or political view. When they start to understand that, perhaps they will stop making so many mistakes.”

But to paraphrase Mark Twain, rumors of its demise have been greatly exaggerated.

The world is on fire with hateful speech from Islam and you're trying to murder one of the few good men in the world shouting FIRE!

This is an emergency appeal. The incomparably important work of Palestine Media Watch has been attacked by the forces of evil. – Brian of London posting!

If you don’t know them, Palestine Media Watch, PMW, translates and posts videos from the TV Channels of both the official Palestinian Authority (rulled by Fattah) and Hamas TV. They’ve brought to the world such gems as the genocidal bunny rabbit and Farfour the murderous mouse. Well YouTube have shut them down for hate speech when all they are doing is reporting the hate speech of Islam.

To YouTube: hate speech exists whether you allow it on your network or not. Shouting “fire” in a crowded cinema is not protected speech if there is no fire. The world is on fire with hateful speech from Islam and you’re trying to murder one of the few good men in the world shouting FIRE!

The posting of the following video has resulted in YouTube pulling their entire account:

6. “Hamas suicide terrorist farewell video: Palestinians drink the blood of Jews” formerly at

http ://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSftYIGH6-w

Removed for violating our Terms of Use on 12/15/2010.

The claim is that our videos, which expose the hate speech propagated by the Palestinian leadership and controlled media, themselves represent hate speech.

YouTube stated that the account was henceforth terminated “due to repeated or severe violations of our Terms of Use”.

Since 2009 they have been deleting specified videos – those mentioned above – but now “terminated” the entire account due to no 6 above.

So for bring to the attention of the world the the vile Jew hatred of Hamas (which is most certainly “hate speech”), PMW is charged with spreading “hate speech”

Obviously, if there are former Presidents of the United States (I’m looking at you Carter) who would talk with Hamas, isn’t it important to know who Hamas are? How can we do that unless we hear what they’re saying to their people!

The latest IDF YouTube scandal is clearly to be condemned. But it is also clear that once again, the palestinians are trying to milk this incident for all its worth, and are resorting to lying and embellishment to do so.

Much has been made of the YouTube video showing an IDF soldier belly dancing against a blindfolded palestinian woman, the latest example of some present and former IDF soldiers acting against the moral code of the army. These actions are morally wrong, and have caused great damage to Israel and the IDF, for which they are to be condemned – as they have been by Israelis, including the Israeli government and the IDF.

But it is also clear that once again, the palestinians are trying to milk this incident for all its worth, and are resorting to lying and embellishment to do so.

Ekhsan Debabseh, the palestinian woman shown in the video, was interviewed by various media outlets, to which she gave varying accounts as to exactly what happened.

Version 1:

Ekhsan Debabseh says she filed a complaint with Israel human rights group against soldier seen dancing around her as she stands handcuffed, blindfolded; adds she plans to seek damages

The Palestinian women depicted in a YouTube video posted by an IDF solider plans to sue him for damages, Ynet learned Wednesday.

The video, which has caused a media storm in the Arab world and Israel alike, featured he soldier featured dancing around a handcuffed and blindfolded female prisoner, while his comrades encourage him.

“I could feel that they were making fun of me despite being blindfolded. They humiliated me,” 25-year-old Ekhsan Debabseh told Ynet.

Debabseh was detained on December 2007, and after her interrogation at the Gush Etzion detention center, she was taken out into the hallway, handcuffed and blindfolded.

“I heard music and soldiers laughing. I felt like I was being photographed and tried, with mu hand tied, to life the blindfold and I caught a glimpse of them. Once of the soldiers came over, smacked me over the head and tied the blindfold tighter, so I won’t be able to lift it.”

She said she begged the soldiers to stop but they ignored her. “It was extremely humiliating. I felt helpless.”

Debabseh added that since her release from prison, where she served a 22-month sentence after being found of having an affiliation with Islamic Jihad, and until the clip hit the televised airwaves, she was unaware of it being on YouTube. The video has received over 500,000 hits so far.

“I don’t have internet access and I had no idea it existed until it was on al-Jazeera yesterday. That’s when I saw it for the first time. I was shocked and even more humiliated. I couldn’t sleep all night. The pictures kept flashing in my head.”

Version 2:

The victim in the latest scandal of an Israeli soldier filmed dancing around a bound Palestinian woman said she will sue the Israeli army over the humiliation she underwent.

Israeli channel 10 broadcasted on Tuesday a Youtube clip showing an Israeli soldier dancing around a blindfolded and cuffed Palestinian woman who was forced to face a wall.

The woman, Ihsan Dababisa, 35, from the Al-Khalil village of Nuba said: “I saw the tape on the Jazeerah channel and I couldn’t sleep all night. I was deeply humiliated. The sound of the soldiers laughing and the music was roaring in my ears.”

“I called the Palestinian Prisoners Society, and we will file a case against the soldier and the Israeli army,” Dababisa went on to say.

She said she was arrested on October 11, 2007 on charges of affiliation with the Islamic Jihad movement and was sentenced to 22 months in prison.

“The day I was arrested they took me and cuffed and blindfolded me, and took me to the Etzion detention center near the city of Bethlehem. After they questioned me and placed me in a corridor, they blindfolded and handcuffed me.”

“I heard the laughter and voices of soldiers and music. I was able to see them during the filming because the blindfold was not tied very tight, and I begged them to not tape me.”

“But they continued to tape me and were drinking alcohol and dancing. It was not one soldier. They were a group of soldiers.”

Version 3:

The Palestinian woman who was filmed, handcuffed and blindfolded as an Israeli soldier danced around her said Thursday that the video only showed the beginning of “a journey of torture and humiliation.”

A video of 24-year-old Ihsan Dababisa surfaced on YouTube on Monday, and was aired on Israel’s Channel 10 News. Dababisa spoke to Ma’an’s correspondent in her home in Nuba village, west of Hebron, and described the ordeal which followed her detention.

Dababisa said she was detained at Etzion checkpoint at 8 a.m. on 11 December 2007, and thrown into a military jeep, handcuffed and blindfolded. She was taken to the yard of Etzion detention center in front of a group of soldiers.

Moments later, she said, she heard loud music and one of the soldiers tried to touch her. She tried to stay close to the wall, and another soldier arrived with a bottle of wine, and offered her a drink. When she refused, but he continued to harass her, she said.

The soldiers then attacked her “like vicious dogs.”

“They began beating me with rifle butts and legs. One of the soldiers hit my head against the metal of the military jeep until I fainted. Then I found myself in front of a female doctor wearing military uniform. After examining me they moved me to the interrogation center where my journey of torture and humiliation started.

“The officer’s name who began to interrogate me was Beran. He threatened to demolish my family home and arrest my siblings, the interrogation lasted for two hours. After that I was transferred with my eyes blindfolded to another interrogation center, I think it was the Russian compound, where there were three interrogators.

“Soon after I came in they began insulting and cursing using words I do not want to say. One of the interrogators was pulling me from my hair. I was handcuffed the whole time. The interrogation lasted until 11 at night, then they transferred me to Hasharon prison where they accused me of trying to stab someone, and of affiliation with the Islamic Jihad. Lawyers from the prisoners’ society defended me and I was sentenced to 22 months in prison. I was released on 6 September 2009.”

More than a year after she was released, Dababisa saw herself on the news. “They were talking about me, I could not believe what I was seeing with my eyes. I was about to faint, I began to cry, I could not sleep all night for one moment. All of the memories while I was among a group of criminal sadist corrupted soldiers who were without feelings and humanity came to my head.”

Discrepancies:

In the first version, the woman was interrogated at the Gush Etzion detention center, and then taken out into the hallway, where she was handcuffed and blindfolded. In the second version, she was taken to the detention center already handcuffed and blindfolded, questioned, and then placed in a corridor where she was handcuffed and blindfolded a second time. In the third version, she was taken to the detention center already handcuffed and blindfolded, and then taken to the yard of the detention center (without being handcuffed and blindfolded again), with the interrogation taking place after the events of the video.

In the first version, she was blindfolded, but was able to temporarily lift the blindfold and catch a glimpse of the soldiers. In the second version, she was able to see everything during the filming because the blindfold was loose. In the third version, there is no mention of her seeing anything.

In the first version, she was smacked by a soldier after lifting the blindfold. The second version contains no mention of any hitting. In the third version, there was extensive violence (and threats) perpetrated against her, both during the dancing incident, and during the subsequent interrogation. It is especially odd that she would not have mentioned this extreme violence in the other two interviews.

In the first two versions, she begged the soldiers to stop, but not so in the third version.

In the third version, one of the soldiers tried to touch her, but not so in the first two versions.

In the third version, she was offered alcohol, but not so in the first two versions.

Each version gives a different age for the woman.

This is yet another example of the palestinians making a mockery of the concept of truth in order to achieve their goals. The sad thing is, they will get away with it, unless those who truly care for the truth are able to look over what they say with a discerning eye, and influence others to do so.

With this in mind, please spread this post far and wide.

Israeli officials have commented further on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s impending visit to Lebanon, including his tour of the border with Israel with complimentary rock-throwing.

Lebanon, not Israel, will be the party to suffer most from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s scheduled visit next week to southern Lebanon, diplomatic officials said in Jerusalem on Monday.

“Lebanon is the primary victim, and if it wants to stop slipping into the jaws of the Iranian crocodile, it – and the moderate Arab world – should raise a strong voice and say this provocateur is not welcome,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Yossi Levy said.

Ahmadinejad is expected to visit battlegrounds of the Second Lebanon War in southern Lebanon, including Bint Jbail and Maroun a-Ras next Wednesday and Thursday, and reportedly wants to go to the border with Israel and throw rocks at IDF soldiers.

“Israel will not be harmed by the visit,” one Israeli diplomatic official said. “We are not afraid of his visit; he will be just another terrorist in southern Lebanon. It is Lebanon that needs to be concerned, allowing the Iranian Trojan horse into the country. It is their sovereignty that is being chipped away.”

The official added that “there have been greater intellectuals than Ahmadinejad who have thrown rocks at the border, and didn’t do much damage,” a reference to Edward Said, the late Columbia University professor who demonstratively threw rocks at Israeli soldiers from the border in 2000.

Sounds to me like we don’t plan on teaching the poisonous midget monkey a lesson.

Updates (Israel time; most recent at top)

8:40PM: The YouTube channel of the indispensible MEMRI seems to have been suspended.

8:15PM: Al Jazeera sprung!

5:20PM: Meet the Methodist preacher taking on his own church for discriminating against Israel.

A Methodist preacher is preparing to sue his own church over claims it is using charitable donations to pursue a campaign of discrimination against Israeli Jews.

The legal dispute has been prompted by a controversial resolution passed at the Methodist Conference which called for a boycott of some Israeli goods.

If the legal action is successful, it would likely bring to an end all similar campaigns that boycott Israeli goods and services.

David Hallam, who preaches in Methodist churches around Birmingham, has accused his own church of wasting funds to pursue a vendetta against Israel. There are no Methodist churches in either Israel or the Occupied Territories.

Mr Hallam, 62, a former labour MEP, said: “What I object to is money which I am putting on the collection plate on a Sunday being used to fund a political campaign against the Jewish state. This is both discriminatory and a misuse of a charity’s funds.

“The Methodist Church seems to think it has a God given right to tell Jews how to run their affairs. It is very disturbing we are getting involved in a territory where we don’t have any members or churches.”

Mr Hallam has recruited Paul Diamond, a barrister with expertise in human rights law and religious law, to bring the case.

Mr Diamond will argue that the Methodist resolution passed in the summer is in breach of European human rights law and a wide-ranging European Union directive on racism.

By singling out Israel, rather than other countries with often worse human rights records, Mr Diamond will claim the church is being deliberately prejudiced against the Jewish state.

Last week the Methodist Church defended the resolution, pointing out the boycott was only of goods made in illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank and Gaza.

The church said the stance was supported by Palestinian Christians and denied any suggestion the move was racist or discriminatory against Jews.

A Methodist spokesman said: “The report was debated and received by the annual Methodist Conference, which is the governing body of the Church and is democratic and representative of the whole Church, and which voted for each resolution.

The spokesman added;: “As Christians, we take from the parable of the Good Samaritan and the life of Jesus that we cannot turn our back on injustice just because it is not geographically near to us.”

The resolution so angered the Board of Deputies, the organisation that represents British Jewry, that it broke off all contact with the leadership of the Methodist Church.

The Board issued a statement at the time suggesting that the Methodist church should “hang its head in shame”.

3:32PM: And stay out.

2:40PM: In a letter to the Independent, musician Roger Waters has denied being antisemitic, despite using images of planes dropping bombs in the shape of Jewish Stars of David followed by dollar signs

Dear Sir

In a recent news item on Foxnews/online, subsequently abridged in The Evening Standard, Abraham Foxman, head of the ADL, (Anti Defamation League) in the USA , accuses my new production of The Wall and by implication me, of anti-Semitism.

A serious charge that demands a response. Had Mr Foxman come to my show before passing judgement and commenting publicly he might, I hope, have held his peace, as there is no anti Semitism in The Wall Show. The song to which he refers, Good Bye Blue Sky, describes how ordinary people, military and civilians alike, suffer trauma in the aftermath of war.

The visuals that accompany the song show waves of B52 bombers dropping various symbols from bomb bays on a war ravaged landscape. The symbols are: in no particular order, a Crucifix, a Hammer and Sickle, a Star of David, A Crescent and Star, a Mercedes sign , a Dollar sign, and a Shell Oil sign.

Mr Foxman’s concern was that potentially the juxtoposition of a Star of David and a Dollar sign might incite hatred of Jews. Contrary to Mr Foxman’s assertion, there are no hidden meanings in the order or juxtaposition of these symbols.

The point I am trying to make in the song is that the bombardment we are all subject to by conflicting religious, political, and economic ideologies only encourages us to turn against one another, and I mourn the concommitant loss of life.

In so far as The Wall has a political message it is to seek to illuminate our condition, and find new ways to encourage peace and understanding, particularly in the Middle East .

Incidentally, being from England, I had never heard of the ADL until today, but I have googled them and I see from their mission statement of 1913 that their brief is not only to defend the Jewish people from defamation, but also, and I quote, ” to secure justice and fair treatment to all citizens alike and to put an end forever to unjust and unfair discrimination against and ridicule of any sect or body of citizens”.

Perhaps we should all focus on that lofty ideal and stop cowering in our corners throwing stones at one another.

Roger Waters

Yes, I am sure having the dollar signs appear right after the Stars of David was just an unfortunate coinkidink, huh Roger?

9:58AM: Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has said in an interview with the journal of the Egyptian Armed Forces that the failure of peace talks will result in widespread violence.

Which is funny, because it was widespread violence that led to the peace talks to begin with.

6:16AM: The Guardian has issued an apology of sorts for suggesting Israel is undermining the Al Aqsa mosque.

I say “of sorts” due to the snide last sentence.

Few places in the world are more difficult to report from than the Middle East. It is not just the physical danger that can face journalists. The unresolved religious and territorial conflicts that characterise the area are bitter, and have origins that reach through the centuries and spread out around the globe today. Passion, conviction and absolute belief confront the reporter on every side.

One of the problems at the heart of the region’s troubles is the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, and among the most contested issues of that conflict is the future of East Jerusalem. In its south-east corner lies the Old City and the Temple Mount (as Jews and Christians know it) or al-Haram al-Sharif (as Muslims know it). This platform of land is a holy site of great importance for the world’s Jews and Muslims.

The first and second temples built here by the Jews were destroyed by the Babylonians and the Romans respectively. On the site now are the al-Aqsa mosque and the Islamic shrine on the pinnacle, the Dome of the Rock. It is a constant source of tension for Israeli-Palestinian relations.

On 27 May this area was the setting for a feature the Guardian ran in G2, examining the lives of the Palestinian residents in Silwan, a community that lies along the southern flank of the Old City, and the effect on them and their homes of a series of archaeological digs that are being undertaken to look for the remains of Ir David, the City of David. The Israelis believe that it lies beneath the Wadi Helweh neighbourhood in Silwan.

The article reported on the actions of Elad, a Jewish group that has dug a number of tunnels in the area to look for the remains of the City of David. Its work is supported by the Israeli government and is in conflict with many of the residents, who say their houses are sinking into the earth because of the excavations.

The Palestinians fear that the tunnels – originating in Silwan – either go under the al-Aqsa mosque or are intended to, undermining the mosque’s foundations.

In the 2,500-word feature was a sentence that examined Elad’s intentions: “Elad set up a two-pronged strategy: to strengthen Israel‘s ‘connection to Jerusalem’ they started to dig – under Silwan and into the land under the al-Aqsa mosque – for the biblical City of David and to create the Ir David tourist site.”

We have received only one complaint about the feature, contending that the sentence above is inaccurate: that the tunnels don’t go under the mosque. Initially I felt that the sentence referred to the tunnels entering the land under the platform on which the mosque stands. The complainant objected to that interpretation and I agreed to look at it again.

As part of that review I consulted former Jerusalem correspondents, two non-profit organisations that work with both communities, Emek Shaveh and Ir Amim, and Professor Israel Finkelstein, a leading archaeologist from Tel Aviv University. All believe the diggings are near the Temple Mount, but not under it.

Daniel Seidemann is a founder of Ir Amim, the goal of which is a “more sustainable and equitable city”. Ir Amim produced a 47-page report last year – Shady Dealings in Silwan – looking at the issues in that part of Jerusalem. Seidemann said: “There is massive tunnelling under Silwan leading towards the Temple Mount, there is massive tunnelling under Palestinian housing adjacent to the Mount, but there is no indication that it is under the Temple Mount, although public scrutiny is difficult.”

Finkelstein said: “There is no excavation under the Temple Mount as far as I know. There are now five archaeological projects in the City of David: one is far from the Temple Mount at the southern tip of the City of David ridge; three are located about 250 metres or so away from the southern wall of the Temple platform. One is closer, about 75 metres or so, but has reached bedrock so there is no way to dig under the Temple Mount.”

I think there is ambiguity in the disputed sentence in the feature – the author agrees – and today a clarification has been published in the Corrections and clarification column. It took a long time – too long – to reach that conclusion, which I regret. And the decision will not settle any wider argument. Some may wonder why a few metres either way matters, or requires so much attention. Those who live in Silwan know why.

Several dozens Jewish settlers from Yitzhar and their supporters marched Monday in protest of an Israeli court decision that they said ordered the demolition of a synagogue in a Jewish settlement, while ignoring a mosque which they say was built illegally in the Palestinian village of Burin. Scores of Palestinians protested near the settlers march, but both demonstrations ended without any violent incidents. (AP Photo/Nasser Ishtayeh)

Those are Fatah flags these palestinian protesters are holding up. In case you cannot see them properly, here is a better view.

Yes, it is the so-called settlers and their settlements that are the obstacle to peace.
