A collection of private photos showing Adolf Hitler looking like a complete tosser has been published.

The album features black and white images of the Nazi leader using expressive hand gestures and unusual poses taken by his personal photographer Heinrich Hoffmann.

In one, he is seen raising his fist in the air while in another, he appears to be pointing to an imaginary audience. He is also seen leaning against a tree wearing lederhosen.

The photographs, taken in the late 1920s to show the dictator how he appeared to the German public, were later banned from being published by Hitler for being “beneath one’s dignity”.

But they were published in Hoffmann’s memoirs entitled Hitler was my Friend in the 1950s, which have now been re-issued in English.

But meanwhile, back in the real world, do you remember when The Times (the London one of course) felt that Hitler was a moderate making concessions to ingratiate himself with the “radical” wing of his own Nazi party. Yes, you heard that right, upon implementing another plank in his plans to eradicate Jews (as meticulously documented years before in Mein Kampf), The Times wrote:

The new laws, while in line with anti-Semitism which has been a large part of the Fuhrer’s inspiration from the beginning are no doubt to be taken as an encouragement to the Radical wing of the party.

Let that sink in: if the Nazi party had a “Radical wing” (their capitalisation) are they seriously suggesting there was a moderate form of Nazi-ism? They concluded their article by trying to find the silver lining for the Jews of Germany:

The best to be said of the new laws is that they may offer German Jewry the process of law in place of arbitrary bullying and local tyranny.

And we all know where the trains to carry out that “process of law” ended for six million people.

Herr Hitler’s speech to the special meeting of the Reichstag at Nuremberg may not have fulfilled all the expectations of the Deputies who were so suddenly summoned together. But our Berlin Correspondent considers that for domestic purposes it was a master-stroke of party stage-craft; and the one-hour session provided speeches by the Fuhrer and General Goring and three new laws. Henceforward the Swastika flag, till now the emblem of the National-Socialist movement, is to the official flag of the German Reich. The other two laws impose severe conditions for full German citizenship so as to exclude Jews and forbid marriage between Aryans and Jews, on the engagement of German girls as domestic servants in Jewish houses.

For Germany the new “ghetto legislation” will rank in importance equally with Herr Hitler’s references to foreign policy. In the long run it may mean more to Germany than any manifestation of activity in foreign affairs. Nothing like the complete disinheritance and segregation of Jewish citizens now announced has been heard since medieval times. The new laws, while in line with anti-Semitism which has been a large part of the Fuhrer’s inspiration from the beginning are no doubt to be taken as an encouragement to the Radical wing of the party.

To increase a provocation which is doing grave injury to German interests abroad is a contradiction more than strange, while it is a further defiance to conceptions of social justice that are still second nature to the greater part of mankind. DOCTOR Who is meant to be an intergalactic time-travelling fighter of evil but he’s come in for big criticism for appearing to save Adolf Hitler’s life in a coming episode.

Reaction to the good doctor appearing to turn bad has bounced around the webo-sphere since the Dr Who trailer aired at Comic-Con 2011 in San Diego this week.

The episode is called Let’s Kill Hitler but instead of Doctor Who – played by Matt Smith – being an assassin, he appears to be the dictator’s saviour well before World War II broke out.

At one point in the clip the Doctor, whose assistant Karen Gillan, who plays Amy Pond was found naked in a hotel lobby this year, meets Hitler, who tells him: “Thank you, I think you have just saved my life.”

One fan worried that “Doctor Who helping Hitler in any positive way is terrible and unthinkable”, while the episode’s synopsis suggests that he may have done so inadvertently.

“In the desperate search for Melody Pond, the Tardis crash-lands in 1930s Berlin, bringing the Doctor face-to-face with the greatest war criminal in the universe – and Hitler,” it reads.

“The Doctor must teach his adversaries that time travel has responsibilities – and in so doing, learns a harsh lesson.”

But the BBC has cautioned that judgments should be held off until the episode airs later in the year. It will also be shown on the ABC.

The above report supposedly contains the offending trailer, but the reporter seems to have included the wrong one. Here’s the one they likely meant:

Update: I guess now Hitler may have changed his mind since this conversation?

Last week, he discussed on his show a story from my home town of Perth regarding a primary school awarding first prize at a costume party for a student dressed as Adolf Hitler, prompting a number of callers to bash Jews.

Come to think of it, we already knew that their problem is not just with Israel’ existence.

Meanwhile, I wonder if happy child’s hopeful future consists of paradise with 72 virgins.
