A Palestinian demonstrator holds up a picture of President George W. Bush and his shoe during a demonstration against Israel’s seperation barrier and calling for the release of Iraqi journalist Muntadhar al-Zeidi.

And in other news sure to keep his blood boiling, despite looking like a shoe-in, he has been extensively beaten by Naqba Dwarf in this poll.

The Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at United States President George W. Bush has been given a bravery award by a Libyan charity group chaired by leader Muammar Gaddafi’s daughter.

The charity group Wa Attassimou also urged the Iraqi government to release television reporter Muntazer al-Zaidi after he was detained on Sunday for hurling footwear at Mr Bush and calling the president a “dog” – both severe insults in the Middle East.

“Waatassimou group has taken the decision to give Muntazer al-Zaidi the courage award … because what he did represents a victory for human rights across the world,” the group, headed by Aicha Gaddafi, said in a statement.

The group said the Iraqi authorities should honour the journalist for his actions.

Meanwhile, “pro-peace” blogger Richard Silverstein has condemned this unprovoked act of violence against the leader of a democratic nation.

Magician David Blaine pulled a string of excuses out of his sleeve to explain why his latest high-profile stunt went wrong – even blaming President Bush’s Wednesday night prime-time speech.

A day after finishing his latest “trick” – hanging upside down over Central Park for 60 hours before taking a “Dive of Death” from a 44-foot-high platform, a TMZ.com cameraman asked Blaine why the stunt went awry.

“It wasn’t meant to be what it was on TV,” Blaine told the gossip Web site’s cameraman.

Shaking his head, Blaine said the plan was for him to drop just a few feet before being whisked away by a harness attached to a batch of helium-filled balloons.

“But because of the president’s speech, my show was delayed 15 minutes and all of the wind picked up,” he said.

Evil works in mysterious ways.

Speaking of the “promise of God” for a “homeland for the chosen people” in Israel, Bush told the Knesset after a visit to the Roman-era Jewish fortress at Masada: “Masada shall never fall again, and America will always stand with you.”

Clearly not Einstein-like.

Albert Einstein described belief in God as “childish superstition” and said Jews were not the chosen people, in a letter to be sold in London this week, an auctioneer said Tuesday.

The father of relativity, whose previously known views on religion have been more ambivalent and fuelled much discussion, made the comments in response to a philosopher in 1954.

As a Jew himself, Einstein said he had a great affinity with Jewish people but said they “have no different quality for me than all other people”.

“The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish.”

So there you have it. Bush is indeed no Einstein, at least on this matter.

Thank G-d for that.

Update: Yes I do realize President Bush’s insistence on a palestinian state is at odds with his professed beliefs. But how can we expect the President of the US to be more Right wing than the government of Israel, which itself accepted the idea of a palestinian state long ago?
