Some of you may feel this is a reasonable response. But the real question is has Mel Gibson really seen the error of his ways? And was his rant just the silliness of a drunk man, or indicative of very real anti-Semitism?

He’s being used as a diversion and it just drives me crazy.’”

No, I’m thinking you were crazy well before the Tiger Woods scandal.

Mel Gibson was turned down for the role of James Bond as he is too short.

The 5ft 9ins star was keen to take on the iconic British spy role many years ago, but film producer Cubby Broccoli was not keen. He was adamant Bond had to be tall and intimidating, and didn’t think Gibson was imposing enough.

“At one point Mel Gibson wanted to play Bond and Cubby was against it,” says Tom Mankiewicz, who wrote Live And Let Die and The Man With The Golden Gun.

“Cubby first of all had a thing about tall people. Bond had to be tall. And so Mel Gibson was too short. But he was a big star.”

Bosses at film studio United Artists were so keen to get Gibson on board they asked Mankiewicz to do everything in his power to persuade Broccoli, but he would not budge.

Mankiewicz recalled: “Somebody at United Artists said to me, ‘Call him and tell him Mel Gibson would be great.’
And Cubby said, ‘I don’t want to make a Mel Gibson movie, I want to make a James Bond movie.’ ”

Other stars to have played the suave spy include Timothy Dalton, who is 6ft 2ins, 6ft 1ins Pierce Brosnan and Sir Sean Connery who measures 6ft 2ins.

Mel Gibson allegedly went on a “crazed rant” at his church in California.

The devout Catholic attended a service at the Holy Family Chapel in Agoura Hills on Sunday and reportedly blasted fellow worshippers for gossiping about his private life, following his split from wife Robyn.

A source told Radar Online: “Mel has completely lost it. His holier than thou world is falling apart and it seems Mel hasn’t been practicing what he preaches. “It was a crazed rant. He paced back and forth, furiously telling the congregation including two priests and a visiting bishop, that he would not stand by and be judged and scrutinised.”

Mel, who recently confirmed his new girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva is pregnant with their first child, has allegedly threatened to close the church if he suspects the congregation are still talking about him.

The source added: “Mel approached the altar and went off. He tried to intimidate the parishioners by staring at everyone with his angry eyes. Mel even threatened to shut down the church if people kept gossiping about him.

“The bottom line is that if Mel hadn’t gotten his Russian girlfriend pregnant while he was still married, there wouldn’t be much to gossip about.”

No word yet on whether or not he referred to any of his parishioners as “sugar t*ts.”

But seriously, what did he expect? His “church” believes even the Pope is not strict enough.

Gibson is using prominent divorce lawyer Robert Kaufman, whose star clients include Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Simpson and Reese Witherspoon, TMZ reported.
