The Hizbullah-run Al-Manar news agency reported Saturday that recent reports stating the organization’s secretary general, Hassan Nasrallah, escaped a poisoning attempt on his life were false.

Al-Manar aired an interview with Nasrallah via its internet website, in which the Hizbullah leader denied the rumors, though he confirmed that he was indeed ill.

In the interview with Al-Manar Nasrallah explained that “if research was done on the internet websites posting such unfounded information, it would reveal that they are all being run from that same dark room, and that their aim is to serve American-Israeli interests.”

Stefan Petzner, the successor to Austrian right-wing populist leader Joerg Haider, has shocked the staunchly conservative country by revealing in a tearful interview that they shared a “special relationship”.

Mr Petzner, 27, who was confirmed on Wednesday as the leader of the Alliance for the Future of Austria (BZO) after Mr Haider’s death in a high-speed car crash two weeks ago, made the admission on Austrian radio, effectively confirming long-standing rumours that he and Mr Haider were lovers.

Attempts by the party to stop repeats of the broadcast failed after the state broadcaster ORF insisted that it would not be gagged.

Mr Petzner, who met Mr Haider five years ago when he was working as a beauty correspondent, said he felt a “magnetic attraction” to the firebrand politician, who was 31 years his senior.

He said that Mr Haider’s main worry was that their relationship would not withstand the age gap.

“We had a relationship that went far beyond friendship,” Mr Petzner said.

“Joerg and I were connected by something really special. He was the man of my life.”

The news stunned Austria, which has been coming to terms with the death of the anti-immigrant politician.

Mr Haider, who voted against a parliamentary motion to lower the age of consent for homosexuals, had presented himself as a family man who drank sparingly.

But after the car crash it was revealed that he had been driving at twice the speed limit, his blood-alcohol level had been four times the legal limit, and he had spent his final hours in a gay bar in Klagenfurt, the capital of the southern state where he was governor.

There has been further speculation that the crash happened after Mr Haider and Mr Petzner argued at a party.

Mr Petzner said that Claudia, Mr Haider’s wife of 32 years and the mother of his two daughters, had not objected to their relationship.

But in an interview published in an Austrian women’s magazine, Mr Petzner’s sister, Christiane, seemed to suggest otherwise.

“Claudia was sometimes jealous of him because he spent more time with her husband than she did,” she said.

Haider’s sexuality is of interest given his far-Right wing views, including his admiration for Adolf Hitler. It would also lend credence to reports that Haider was drunk at the wheel after spending time at a gay bar, something Haider’s admirers at far-Right hate sites have been frantically trying to disprove.

An Iraqi news website on Wednesday quoted “high-ranking diplomatic sources in Beirut” as saying that Hizbullah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah survived a poisoning attempt.

According to the state-affiliated website, Nasrallah survived an assassination by a highly toxic chemical just a few days ago.

The report has yet to be confirmed by any official source, and Hizbullah media made no mention of the alleged attempt on the Hizbullah chief’s life.

According to the Iraqi website’s report, Nasrallah suffered grave effects from the poison, and a team of 15 Iranian physicians was flown to Beirut to attend him, and eventually managed to stabilize his condition.

The report quoted “western diplomatic sources” as saying that Israel was apparently behind the assassination attempt, adding that the Shiite group has launched an investigation into the incident.

The origin of the chemical may indicate who was behind the assassination attempt, according to the report.

Arutz Sheva quotes Iranian newspaper Khoursid as saying essentially the same thing, and adds:

The report may explain rumors 10 days ago that Nasrallah has appointed his heir in case he is assassinated. Safi al-Din, the chairman of the terrorist organization’s executive council and Nasrallah’s cousin, will take over the leadership of Hizbullah if “the Zionists succeed in assassinating Hassan Nasrallah,” the newspaper reported.

Whether or not it was the Mossad behind the assassination attempt is a matter of speculation. But if it was, it looks like we are not having too much luck with poison.

Austrian far-right politician Joerg Haider, who died last weekend in a fatal car accident was seen partying at a well-known gay nightclub just before his death, according to German media reports.

The leader of the nationalist Alliance for the Future of Austria crashed his car early last Saturday after driving at twice the permitted speed limit, in a high state of intoxication.

According to a report by the German-language newspaper Bild, Haider’s evening began with a surprise appearance at the launch party of a new Austrian tabloid, where he was photographed in the company of a young local woman.

At the same party, Haider, 58, gave what would become his last interview, speaking to a reporter about his passion for Italian wine, among other things.

However, contrary to previous reports, the evening of the charismatic leader did not end there. Before heading home, Haider made a quick visit to Stadtkraeme, a local club famous for its gay night scene.

Haider was spotted leaving the place on his own shortly before 1 A.M., fatally crashing his car half an hour later.

Who’d have thought Haider liked Italian wine? That’s wasn’t very patriotic of him.

Austrian investigators say far-right politician Joerg Haider’s car was speeding at more than twice the posted limit when it crashed and killed him.

Police reconstructing the fatal accident in southern Austria say the speedometer in the wreckage of Haider’s Volkswagen sedan was stuck at 142 kilometers per hour (88 miles per hour).

The speed limit on the stretch of road where he died was just 70 kilometers per hour (43 mph).

Investigators released their preliminary findings Sunday, a day after the 58-year-old Haider was killed.

Prosecutor Gottfried Kranz says the speed appeared to be the main factor in the deadly crash.

But not to worry. The anti-Semites can still blame it on the Jooooooos.

Does seem a little suspicious. I just read he was doing twice the speed limit when he crashed on the way to his mother’s 90th birthday party. Possibly, he was being chased by someone.

Haider, 58, the governor of the southern province of Carinthia, had been making a return to national politics with a more moderate line, almost a decade after his party’s inclusion in the Austrian government led to European Union sanctions.

Haider’s car veered off the road in southern Austria after overtaking another vehicle, and overturned, police said. He was alone in the car.

Haider suffered severe injuries to his head and chest despite wearing a seatbelt. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, said Thomas Koperna, the hospital’s medical director.

Haider was most likely killed by an electromagnetic weapon which incapacitated him before a curve. This could have been in a van following him, or in the forest ahead in line with the road. The Mossad spy agency cancelled at the last minute a plan to capture notorious Nazi doctor Josef Mengele in Argentina in 1960, a former top commander told AFP on Monday.

Rafi Eitan, who is now an Israeli cabinet minister, said the Mossad tracked down Mengele in Buenos Aires while planning the May 1960 capture of Adolf Eichmann, one of the main architects of the Holocaust.

“Mengele was living in Buenos Aires at the same time as Eichmann. We discovered Eichmann first and we later found Mengele,” Eitan told AFP.

The Mossad agents in Argentina headed by Eitan knew Mengele’s address and had taken pictures that determined “beyond any doubt” the identity of the former Nazi who had escaped to south America under a new name after World War II.

Several days after Eichmann was snatched and put in hiding in Argentina before being secretly transported to Israel, then-Mossad chief Issar Harel quickly put forward plans to catch Mengele, Eitan said.

“I opposed the plan and said that the two operations should not be carried out together because of the risk of losing Eichmann and because we did not have sufficient knowledge for the Mengele mission,” he said.

Harel agreed to scrap the plan until after Eichmann was brought to Israel, and both the Mossad chief and Eitan intended to return to capture the Angel of Death, said Eitan, now 82.

But after the successful capture of Eichmann was made public, the mission was aborted.
