President Shimon Peres believes the statue of former President and convicted rapist Moshe Katsav should be removed from the President’s Residence in Jerusalem, or at the very least have a sign mentioning Israel’s 8th president is a convicted sex offender placed nearby, Yedioth Ahronoth reported.

Peres, who has previously stated that history should not be rewritten, for better or worse, voiced his opinion behind closed doors this week.

“I’m not judging but I cannot avoid telling the entire history,” Peres said. “Either they remove the statue or write what he has done next to it.”

In his opinion, leaving the statue and photograph of Katsav where they are now is problematic from an educational prospective, especially when students come to visit the President’s Residence. However Peres added he does not wish to intervene, allowing the Ministerial Committee on Symbols and Ceremonies to determine what Katsav’s conviction means as far as symbols and ceremonies are concerned.

Now the committee must decide what to do with the former president’s statue and photo, as well as whether Katsav will be given a state funeral and be buried at a special plot intended for Israel’s political leaders and their spouses, among others.

As for the possibility of a pardon, Peres remarked he’s always belonged to the “school of Shammai” (supporting strict judgment) as far as violence against women and car accidents.

I’m all for violence against car accidents.

As for Shimon’s views on women, we already knew he holds them in high regard.

Even at the age of 88, Shimon Peres is unstoppable. The Israeli president has begun promoting a new vision: An Albert Einstein museum in Jerusalem, which will be shaped as the Jewish-German scientist’s head.

According to the plan, the museum will display the entire bequest of the theoretical physicist who developed the theory of general relativity, including his writings, inventions, clothes, study, telescope and even a mold of his teeth.

The first person to come up with the idea to build the Einstein museum in Jerusalem was Cabinet Secretary Zvi Hauser, who thought the museum should be shaped as the scientist’s brain. Peres fell for the idea, but came up with a design of his own.

I kind of like the idea and think the palestinians should implement something similar for the Arafat Museum.

And they knew damn well their targets were school children.

Hamas first fired the advanced, Russian-made missile last December, but this is the first time the target has been a civilian one. This was not a haphazardly chosen target, and it was clear the bus was carrying children. As the launch occurred within five kilometers of the target, it was possible for the attackers to keep the target within sight.

In other words, the attackers knew what they were attacking, and were clear about the implications of a mass strike on children under the already tense conditions. Such an operation requires relative expertise, intelligence and planning. All of these factors suggest that Hamas was likely involved.

The IAF responded to the attack (not to mention the 45 rockets fired into Israel throughout the day) by striking 13 terror targets, but not before the cowardly terror groups in Gaza declared a ceasefire.

Meanwhile, I just found out this morning that the teenage boy critically injured in the school bus attack is the son of the owner of the local, now-defunct Chinese restaurant where I live. Please pray for Daniel Aryeh (ben Tamar) Viflic.

While you’re at it, please pray that the Israeli government grows a pair. Enough is enough.

Update: On their website, Hamas claims responsibility for the attack, gloating that

The operation left two Israeli settlers injured, one of them was in a critical condition and evacuated by the Israeli medical crews to Soroka hospital.

They also include photos of the wrecked bus, including one which clearly shows the word “Children” in Hebrew written on the bus.

“Who needs this Gaddafi? I think he should have gone to work at Dior. He changes his outfit everyday, investing thousands of dollars in strange hats, crappy dresses, wasting his money… Who needs him? You tell me, what for?”

I find it interesting that Peres specifically mentioned Dior. Interesting, because Gaddafi brings to mind a fellow antisemite who used to work there.
