Israellycool » Twitter Down Under Punditry in the Middle East Mon, 20 Jul 2015 19:04:10 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Iran Deal Worse Than Repainting The White House Thu, 16 Jul 2015 07:15:43 +0000 There’s plenty of serious and useful comment on the web. The only thing worth saying is that Israeli internal politics is uniformly united against what Obama and Kerry have done in the name of the United States of America. Oh and Saudi Arabia are on the same side as all the Israeli politicians. And achieving that kind of unity in Israeli politics and across the middle east is harder than convincing Ali Khamenei to officiate at a gay wedding.

Snapchat #TelAvivLive Channel Opens And The Crowd Goes Wild Wed, 08 Jul 2015 07:32:35 +0000 Snapchat #TelAvivLive screens_ - 7Snapchat…. OK, where to start, Snapchat used to be a strange little app that (other) people used to send ephemeral pictures to each other. That means pictures that weren’t stored. Because it was promised the images could only be seen once and by the person you sent them to, it encouraged a certain type of image to be sent. And the kids loved it.

Snapchat grew up and now it offers ways for professional marketers to put out short clips to a wide audience. And somebody has set up a #TelAvivLive channel. If you download and run Snapchat, swipe to the left and you should be able to search. Search for Tel Aviv and you should find it.

It’s a stream of beautiful short clips showing the great life young people have in this beautiful city. I’ve put a few screenshots below (and if you’re thinking of sending nudie pics of yourself to someone else, remember there IS a way to save them even in Snapchat).

SnapChat #TelAvivLive Screens Snapchat #TelAvivLive screens_ - 2 Snapchat #TelAvivLive screens_ - 3 Snapchat #TelAvivLive screens_ - 4 Snapchat #TelAvivLive screens_ - 5

But what’s really fun is going on Twitter and seeing the HORROR with which the Jew haters and Israel haters have responded there! They’re pulling out every Pallywood image they can find to try to counter the REAL images of the amazing city that Jews built on the shores of the Mediterranean! Here’s a link to a search for #TelAvivLive.

They’re asking Snapchat support for help with an “error” in the application:

I guess some of them “just can’t handle the truth!”

Here’s a strange new use of the term “real” I was previously unaware of:

I honestly don’t quite follow the “logic” here:

Tel Aviv?

Feel free to highlight any good ones in the comments and if you see some good responses please link to them too.

Aussie Dave adds: Let’s not forget the many anti-Zionists-not-antisemites responding to it.

Top 12 Most Surreal Responses To @Israel’s Tweets Sun, 12 Apr 2015 19:14:50 +0000 Back in 2010, Israel’s Ministry of Foreign affairs purchased the Twitter handle “@Israel” from Israel Meléndez of Miami, Florida which lay relatively dormant ever since registering it in 2007 for a reportedly 5-figure sum, making Meléndez the only living person to ever actually financially benefit from Hasbara on social media. He was also happy to part with the handle because even with no activity, he was a target of non-stop abuse from Israel haters.

Anything with the word “Israel” in it in social media usually has to put up with a lot of, well… riff-raff. Heck, once I even saw a story about Hawaiian singer Israel Kamakawiwo’ole attract a “Free Palestine” or two.

So even though the Twitter account largely dedicates its timeline to innovation, technology, culture, arts, history and helping the world in times of need, you can expect @Israel to garner some interesting replies. But it’s not the replies itself that are interesting. It’s the way they try to change the topic from something so innocent like gazelles to the neverending downward spiral of the Israel-Arab conflict. As if there is a shortage of places to hold a discussion of the conflict and stay on topic, these folks make it a point to hijack anything and everything. Because Zionists.

Behold the most surreal responses. Warning to the faint of heart, these tweets are uncensored.

1. Gazelles and Pigs

2. Water Saving Technology and 9/11

3. Shhh… don’t tell Raqueem who made the land fertile

4. I long for a day when @Israel Tweets about curing cancer, it attracts people from the medical profession instead of…

5. I may be going out on a limb here but research grants aren’t usually given to idiots

6. Imagine being able to roll up your telev… wait didn’t the first frame in that cartoon result in multiple murder? Wait… what does that cartoon have to do with anything? Why am I still talking about this?

7. You have a weird dead baby fetish, I’m afraid Tel Aviv can’t help you there.

8. Here’s a completely reasonable response to “Have a peaceful Saturday”

9. This guy’s brain is a real labyrinth.

10. OK, Leigh. How would you like them to phrase that tweet so it’s MORE inclusive?

11. This story is about the discovery of 2300 year old artifacts from the early Hellenistic period after Alexander the Great conquered the Land of Israel. This predates any mention of “Palestine” in any form. But that doesn’t bother Nimati.

12. Are you referring to the 8th/3rd most obese region in the world among men/women? Or the one Israel is saving from their own civil war?

So yeah. You can waste a good evening just perusing the responses. You could respond to their tweets but why? @Israel is concentrating on positive stories that help humanity. Why screw it up?

#AskHamas Doomed To Backfire Thu, 12 Mar 2015 20:22:58 +0000 Following the widely successful #AskGalloway initiative on Twitter, terrorist organization Hamas has decided to do something similar.

ask hamasHamas media coordinator Taher al-Nunu announced the launch of a weeklong interactive campaign starting Friday on social media outlets under the hashtag #AskHamas.

The campaign aims at answering any questions that might be raised by European communities with the approach of the time limit, on March 18, of the EU appeal of an earlier court ruling calling for the removal of Hamas from EU’s terrorism list.

Nunu said, in a speech during a media workshop on Thursday, that the campaign would primarily target western audiences, especially in the EU.

“It will send messages reflecting Hamas’s opinions and attitudes towards many issues that concern the western people and demonstrate that Hamas is not a terrorist group”, he explained.

The campaign will highlight the fact that Hamas is a national liberation movement and that the real terrorist is the Israeli occupation, he said.

He pointed out that the campaign will be focused mainly on social media in Question and Answer form in order to reach the largest number of the western people who showed solidarity with the Palestinian just cause.

Through the #AskHamas campaign, Hamas members – including senior leaders – will answer questions by western social media users in order to clarify Hamas’s true positions.

He called on social media activists to support the campaign, and described it as a Palestinian national duty.

Already, people have joined in on the fun.

I can’t keep up with all the questions, so I’ll just leave this here.

Remember to join in on the fun!

An Inspector Calls Tue, 10 Mar 2015 09:19:12 +0000 chambers legal cheek

Yesterday I wrote up the contents of the web site belonging to Chambers Solicitors, the firm of lawyers who act on behalf of George Galloway. Here are some other interesting tidbits about that firm that are worth bearing in mind.

Last July the firm was raided by the West Yorkshire Police and two people were arrested there as reported at the time in Bradford’s local paper, The Telegraph and Argus:

Two people were in custody last night following a police raid at a Bradford solicitors’ office.

They were arrested after police swooped on the business in Grattan Road at about 10am.

West Yorkshire Police have declined to give further details of the investigation, though they say it is an ongoing inquiry into an alleged fraud. The action was orchestrated by the force’s Economic Crime Unit.

Detective Sergeant Gary Ferris said: “This was a pre-planned operation carried out by the Economic Crime Unit in conjunction with Bradford CID and Neighbourhood Policing Teams.”

The UK based legal blog Legal Cheek followed up and asked for comment and got this:

The force today would only say that those two people had been released on police bail. Chambers Solicitors’ senior partner Mohammed Ayub told Legal Cheek this afternoon that he had no comment on the police investigation.

Legal Cheek also seems to be well on top of this story and a good source of real information.

And as if this wasn’t enough bad news for George Galloway, the UK Newspapers are now full of the story of the woman who is to run against him for the Parliamentary seat of Bradford West which Galloway holds at the moment.

The headlines scream that she’s the daughter of a murderer but it’s worth getting past those to understand her story (Daily Telegraph):

A Labour Party candidate has told her extraordinary life story including her mother’s imprisonment for murder and the arranged marriage she was forced into at the age of 15.

Last week, Naz Shah was selected to fight the seat of Bradford West at the forthcoming general election, the town where she grew up in extreme poverty, becoming homeless after her father left her mother for a 16-year-old neighbour when she was six.

She has now told the full story of traumatic childhood, including how she was forced to be a parent to her two sisters after her mother, who had suffered years of abuse at the hands of a local drug dealer, was jailed for his murder.

The full story is in the local Urban Echo paper and they published it on International Womens’ Day. I don’t know a great deal more about this woman, but if she can unseat George Galloway, she’ll be a hero for that reason alone.

Update 13:30: I want to mildly qualify my enthusiasm for Naz Shah above with the following quote from Ben Judah in Table Magazine. He’s writing a huge (and very good so far) exposition on Jew hatred in the UK and in the second part (of five) he has this to say about Bradford and specifically Naz Shah (my emphasis):

Bradford is not much of a place to be a Jew. There are fewer than 300 Jews living in the city and only a handful observant. The city’s one Jewish politician is very quiet about his origins, Orthodox Jews are nervous to walk around in kippot, and even a Jewish funeral has been attacked by marauding Muslim anti-Zionist protesters. Even the candidates bidding to dislodge George Galloway now mimic his pro-Palestinian rhetoric, seeking to outdo each other in their condemnation of Israel. The only party that stands a chance of dislodging him is the Labour Party. I contacted every leading candidate bidding to represent them against George Galloway. Most had websites exhibiting photos of themselves at pro-Palestinian protests. Only two wrote back: One Labor hopeful responded rather bizarrely to my request for an interview on the subject of anti-Semitism with a video and transcript of herself speaking at a pro-Palestinian rally. Another, Naz Shah, a Palestine activist I contacted by Twitter direct message stopped responding when I explained Tablet magazine was a Jewish publication. Shah was finally selected to fight Galloway for Labour from an all-Muslim shortlist. The first candidate selected by Labour withdrew amid accusations Pakistani clan elders were unhappy.

Jim Clancy Still Seeing Hasbarists Under His Bed Tue, 24 Feb 2015 17:01:53 +0000 Remember CNN reporter Jim Clancy, who had an anti-Israel inspired meltdown on Twitter, leading to his quitting the platform and then resigning from CNN?

Well, he’s baaa-aaack – on Twitter at least – and by the looks of it is as constipated as ever.

jim clancy

Unfortunately, he still seems to have verbal diarrhea, and a bad case of hasbara-itis.

Jim, don’t quit your day job.

Snap, too late.

Ding Dong The Jim Is Gone Sat, 17 Jan 2015 15:57:32 +0000 Jim Clancy @clancycnn oh Lord thank you for the block buttonJust after Shabbat started in Israel on Friday the news of veteran CNN anchor Jim Clancy’s departure from CNN broke. You will remember that Israellycool was first to note the deletion (or perhaps suspension pending a re-activation) of his Twitter account. Algemeiner wrote:

CNN anchor Jim Clancy has left the network one week after a bizarre exchange with pro-Israel activists on Twitter about the terrorist outrages in Paris, in which he derided his opponents as the “hasbara team” and used a derogatory term for disabled people.

The news was broken by industry publication Adweek, which linked to The Algemeiner‘s extensive reporting of the scandal, noting that Clancy’s departure “comes just days after the veteran journalist had an extended debate via Twitter over the Charlie Hebdo cartoons.”

In addition to the tweeting, he then went on a furious blocking spree cutting himself off from anyone with the slightest pro-Israel sentiments.

Elder of Ziyon is, quite rightly, noting his part in this, it was a direct reply to Elder on a thread kicked off by Oren Kessler that seemed to be his undoing. Once again, just like with Tim Willcox of the BBC, there’s something very evil lurking in the minds of people like this.

And of course we’re all wondering where Jim will end up next, Al Jazeera, BBC and RT are all possibilities.

Also note we have a guest post by Fortune Magazine’s Richard Behar: he’s focusing on the absolute hammering the mainstream media have given terrorism expert Steve Emerson for one misstatement in an interview on Fox and their complete silence on this issue. Don’t miss that.

CNN BREAKING NEWS! Jim Clancy’s Twitter Account Is Missing Thu, 15 Jan 2015 16:05:55 +0000 It would appear that Jim Clancy’s CNN Twitter account is no more, it is an ex-account, it has gone to meet its maker, it’s pushing up the daisies, it’s shuffled off this mortal web server.

ClancyCNN account is gone

It should be at the top of that search result.

You may remember that it was only last week the Jim Clancy went on a complete Twitter meltdown after Oren Kessler challenged his statement that “The cartoons NEVER mocked the Prophet. They mocked how the COWARDS tried to distort his word. Pay attention.”

He followed that up with a blocking frenzy in which he cut off anyone who had ever retweeted or replied to him on this issues.

Well I guess he (or the CNN overlords) have decided that his 56,000+ follower Twitter account is more of a liability than an asset, much like Jim Clancy himself.

Darwin Award Candidate Of The Day: Mark Taylor aka Kiwi Jihadi Thu, 01 Jan 2015 19:18:45 +0000 There’s a risque joke about a New Zealander that goes something like this: A man drives by a New Zealand farmer having unnatural relations with a sheep. He stops the car and asks the farmer “Shouldn’t you be shearing it?”, to which the farmer responds “”I’m not shearing it with anyone!”

Meet the New Zealand terrorist who was shearing his location with everyone!

kiwi-jihadi-in-al-tabqah-03dec2014-10dec2014-geotrack-1-ibraboIt’s a rookie social media mistake and one that intelligence and law enforcement agencies pray for when tracking criminals. This week one of New Zealand’s well known jihadists, Mark Taylor (Twitter aka: Kiwi Jihadi or @M_Taylor_Kiwi), removed 45 tweets after he discovered that he was broadcasting his twitter location to every intelligence agency (and others) keeping tabs on him. Unfortunately for him we captured all of them prior to him removing the tweets and will discuss the value of the intelligence they contained.

Taylor eager for the fame of being a violent jihadist took to twitter to get attention for his exploits. His statements and twitter missteps have solidified his involvement with ISIS and will provide the evidence should he ever try to return to New Zealand. His ignorance and the ignorance of others has been an advantage to intelligence agencies around the world looking to protect their nations and track the progress of ISIS. Even examining his most recent twitter photo update, Taylor shows again his lack of understanding of technology and intelligence as he broadcast out the facial image of another fighter captured in the background of his photo.

Here’s hoping this jihadumbass meets the same fate as his Twitter account: termination.

Tweeting Truth to Jodi Rudoren’s Usefully Idiotic Power Thu, 20 Nov 2014 10:14:31 +0000 When The New York Times dispatched Jodi Rudoren to Israel as the new Jerusalem bureau chief 2.5 years ago, she was a self-professed neophyte in all things Arab-Israeli conflict.

So this malleable lump of reporting clay wandered ignorantly and naively into the morally relativist journalistic groupthink / circlejerk that infects the bar of Jerusalem’s American Colony Hotel, and instead of fighting to keep her head above water, instead of endeavoring to choose wisely, she was all too willing to be swept away by the fallacious, putrid tsunami of anti-Israel agitprop emanating from the more veteran ‘reporters’ based in Israel.

In short order, she was mirroring the prevailing ‘wisdom’ of the anti-Israel-by-reflex press. Explaining away the murderous terrorist act of throwing rocks at Israeli civilians in their cars as a harmless ‘kids-being-kids’ pastime is but one example. There are others from the Mondoweiss-sourcing, Hamas-parroting Rudoren.

And now, 2.5 years after starting the failed voyage of discovery that has been her high-ranking internship, as she penned yet another morally repugnant screed that equated Jews-at-prayer with Arabs-at-butchery, her journey towards the dark side is all but complete.

After reading that article yesterday, Seth Mandel called Jodi out on Twitter, with this epic series of almost 60 Tweets.

Over to you, Seth.

These are a few of my faves. Read them all here.
