The International Solidarity Movement were at it again yesterday, displaying their unique form of “non-violent” resistance to what they call the “occupation”.
Gil Shterzer writes on his blog how he saw footage on Israel’s Channel 1 whereby these activists chanted “From the river to the sea Palestine will be free” (also noted on Little Green Footballs). In other words, these activists called for Israel’s destruction, placing them on the same ideological playing field as Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
This is consistent with previous statements of prominant ISM members. In a May 6 press conference, the Jewish Raphael Cohen defined the “occupation” as “The Zionist presence in Palestine” i.e. in all of the country including Israel within its pre-1967 borders. He also stated that the ISM view of peace would be a “one-state solution,” or no Israel at all. ISM spokesperson Huwaida Arraf, a palestinian married to Adam Shapiro, another Jew, has confirmed that the ISM supports the “right of return”, the politically correct way to call for Israel’s destruction.
Although the group states that it utilizes “nonviolent, direct-action methods of resistance to confront and challenge illegal Israeli occupation forces and policies”, it clearly supports terror:
The Palestinian response over the years has been some attempts at armed struggle (as is their right), but mostly peaceful protests, demonstrations, and appeals to Israeli courts.
Then there is the April 15 capture of senior Islamic Jihad Terrorist, Shadi Sukiya, by an elite IDF anti-terror unit while hiding out in the ISM’s Jenin offices, as well as the revelation that the two Britons involved in a suicide bombing met with ISM members prior to the bombing.
In an article on the ISM, David Bedein of the Israel Resource News Agency, states that the ISM freely admits to the following:
Spotting and reporting IDF troops in military operations and reporting their whereabouts to armed units of the Palestine Liberation Organization and Hamas. Since the ISM members are not Arabs and since they are not armed, they are in a perfect position to provide reports on troop movements of any kind to terrorists who take refuge in population centers.Intervening with IDF troops at checkpoints in order to facilitate the movement of Palestinians between cities. Who knows how many armed terrorists have been able to infiltrate into Israel with the help of this group?
Preventing Israel from monitoring and closing off the tunnels Palestinian terror groups have dug along the border with Egypt. When Corrie was killed she was trying to block an IDF tractor carving a path in the direction of these underground tunnels.
Although Israel points to the occasional acts of Palestinian violence as a grave problem, it is clear that the Occupation itself is the overwhelming, and continuous act of collective violence in the area.
Their lying was never more manifest than at the time of the Rachel Corrie incident. For more information on the ISM’s claims versus the reality, see Zachary Cohen’s excellent article, linked from Little Green Footballs.
The ISM is clearly a dangerous organization, dedicated to the destruction of not only the security fence, but the state of Israel.
