Totally Jewish reports the following:
Their web site (http://www.almuk.com/obm/) is an interesting case study of Islamic fundamentalism and dispels a number of misconceptions that emanate from the Left. One of Britain’s most notorious Islamic groups came under renewed fire this week for publicly praising the 11 September 2001 killers as “the magnificent 19”.
Al-Muhajiroun, known for its vehemently anti-Israel views, plastered posters with the shocking statement at sites across Britain to advertise an event marking the second anniversary of the attacks.
While the group denied the event would be a celebration, UK head Anjem Choudary told TJ: “In the eyes of Muslim people the word magnificent is not strong enough. These people sacrificed their lives for the sake of their fellow Muslims around the world.”
Misconception : September 11 was caused by US support of Israel.
Rebuttal: The Muslims are waging a war against the entire free world. The israel-palestinian issue is only one of their gripes.
Misconception : Islamic fundamentalism is caused by poverty and despair. The Magnificent 19 conference this year is not a celebration but an insight into the lives of 19 brave warriors who made the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of Allah. Seeing the oppression and corruption perpetrated against Muslims worldwide for generations, they decided to take the war to the enemy’s home. There is no doubt that they shook the world with the operations on the 11th of September 2001 and that they revived the obligation of Jihad worldwide, as can be seen through the operations in Indonesia, Riyadh, Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistanetc
Rebuttal: There is no correlation between the two (read my update for a clarification on this). Islamic fundamentalism is ideologically-motivated.
Misconception: Islamic terror is not driven by a desire to dominate the world. The Magnificent 19 conference will explore how the 19 soldiers of Allah, who gave the US a bloody nose on the 11th of September 2001, were motivated by their love of the hereafter over the love of this life. How they exhibited full reliance on Allah (SWT) in their hearts and an incredible quest to fulfil the task which they determined to undertake. How, far from uneducated and impoverished, from amongst those 19 were people who had abundant wealth, deep knowledge of Islam and a clear understanding of the plight of the Muslims worldwide.
Rebuttal: Islamic terror is absolutely driven by this desire.
The way to defeat this enemy is not to appease it, but to fight and defeat it. Unfortunately, appeasement is currently the name of the game, as is manifest by the world’s response to Israel’s efforts to defeat terror. The Messenger Muhammad (saw) promised us that Islam will one day dominate the world, from the East to the West and that the Muslims authority will be all over it. That our situation will turn from one of oppression and persecution where sovereignty and supremacy is for man, to one of security and tranquillity where sovereignty and supremacy is for God. This is the ultimate goal of the Islamic Movement worldwide, a fundamental part of every Muslims belief, a destiny determined for Muslims by God, a struggle in which we are all participants and a war in which there can only be one victor, and that is the Muslims.
Update: I re-read what I wrote and have decided that one of my points needs modifying. I stated that there is no correlation between poverty and despair and Islamic fundamentalism, which is such a sweeping generalization that I am almost embarassed that I made it. What I meant to say is that you can not automatically conclude that poverty and despair is the root cause of Islamic fundamentalism. Sure, people living in harsh conditions may be attracted to such ideologies, but eliminating poverty and despair is not going to eliminate Islamic fundamentalism, which is in essence based on aspirations to enforce Islam on the world.
