The Card-Inal Sin of Anti-Semitism

Robert Fisk, who has had a verb named after him due to his poor journalism, now has another medium for transmitting his vile message: An Ariel Sharon playing card.

A shocking deck of playing cards portraying Ariel Sharon as a bloodthirsty butcher was this week branded “revolting and disgusting” by fuming community leaders.

Modelled on the pack of cards depicting Saddam Hussein’s most wanted henchmen issued to troops in Iraq, designers of the latest pack claim it features the “warmongers and profiteers” who must be overthrown for the sake of world peace.

The Israeli premier, the five of clubs, is the only middle eastern leader to be singled out in the “most unwanted” pack, published by Bookmarks publications.

In a quote on his card attributed to Independent journalist Robert Fisk, Sharon’s name is described as being “synonymous with butchery, with bloated corpses and disembowelled women and dead babies, with rape and pillage and murder”.

Sounds more like Yasser Afatrat to me, who incidentally, is not included in this pack.

Call this what you want. I call it anti-Semitism.
