Admitting You Were Wrong

No, this does not involve me admitting I was wrong about anything, although my wife will tell you that I do occasionally regularly err.

Here is a letter, published in today’s Age, from a former member of the Israeli peace camp who is not afraid to admit he was wrong:

David Grossman (If Israel harms Arafat . . . Opinion, 19/9) appears courageous in his criticism and blame of his own leader for the mess of the past three years in Israel. Such articles win sympathy in the West, but lose touch with reality.

As one who, like Grossman, was active in the peace camp against Ariel Sharon when I lived in Israel, I feel terribly disappointed by this position. The disaster started when Grossman, myself and others failed to read the writing on the wall and let this Trojan horse into the area. Hundreds of Israelis were murdered by terror while craving peace even before Sharon came to power.

The real courage, David Grossman, is to show humility – and admit that we were horribly wrong.
Guy Avisar, Elwood

Unfortunately, there all too many left-wing Israelis whose egos will not allow them to admit that Oslo was a huge mistake. One of them has such a big ego, that huge birthday party celebrations have been conducted, partly at taxpayer expense, to placate it.
