Deepikaglobal has a story about an Israeli surgeon who saves the lives of suicide bombers, only to become victim to a suicide bomb himself.
”I remember commenting to one of the nurses during the surgery (on the bomb-maker), ‘Tell the terrorists, when they make a bomb for me to make sure it’s a small one because I have saved the lives of many of them’,” Yurfest said.
”But I never for a moment thought it would come true.”
This story reminds me of the predicament facing many medical professionals in Israel. To most, if not all, of them, there is no dilemna. A patient is a patient, regardless of how they arrived at the emergency room. My wife, who is a physiotherapist, has treated terrorists before. But, as we say in Israel Ein ma la’asot (there is nothing you can do).
Despite my own feelings about the terrorists, I am glad that our own humanity has not become another casualty of the conflict.
