Israel even had a game against Libya, which was apparently played in good spirits.
Speaking of Libya, the son of Libyan leader Muammar Khaddafi has made some positive statements about Jews and Israel.
Saif al-Islam Khaddafi, son of the Libyan leader and his possible successor said that Libya intends to discuss the compensation of Libyan Jews who had left the country. He also said that the Jews are welcome to return to their homeland if they wish. ìThey are Libyans and are therefore entitled for compensation. I call on the 30,000 Libyan Jews, including those in Israel, to come back to the land of their ancestors as citizens and leave the land they took from the Palestinians”.
In an interview with Al-Jazeera, he said that “until a short while ago Israel was an enemy, but things have changed. Israel does not occupy our land, we are not in conflict, and we have no problems with it”.
Could this be the start of a “beautiful” friendship?
Update: Yes, I realized my mistake while driving on the way home…Israel played Lebanon, not Libya. Put it down to 12-hour days of work taking their toll on my mind. Blogging to resume on Sunday.
