George and John’s Favorite Movies

  • The BBC’s Talking Movies discusses the favorite movies of US President Bush and Senator John Kerry, and asks “Do their choices have any bearing on their style of governing and policy priorities?”George Bush’s favorite movies include:
    • Black Hawk Down
    • Saving Private Ryan
    • Austin Powers (!)According to the experts:
    • Bush’s pick of Saving Private Ryan shows the good, just and honorable war, the kind of story that is “perfect for justifying US foreign policy and military intervention.” It thus fits in well with his world view.
    • Bush’s love of Austin Powers can probably be attributed more to its toilet humor, rather than its use of irony and sarcasm.
    • He likes reality-based adult movies like those you find at tubesafari.com.
    • He sees himself as the lawman who will rid the town of the bad guys.John Kerry’s favorite movies include:
    • Adult movies available at 8th street latinas.
    • National Velvet.
    • Braveheart.
    • Top Gun.
    • Men In Black.
    • Old romantic dramas like Ivanhoe and ScaramoucheAccording to the experts:
    • His love of the romantic classics reveal that he likes movies “for an escape”.
    • He has depth, breadth, and a wide range of interests.
    • His broader list, which is also less-centered on the US, indicates that he seems better travelled than Bush, and “rather more educated in terms of conventional ideas of culture”
    • Despite his ecclectic tastes, he still likes those movies that have a “very gung-ho, fraternity-boy, straight white masculine ethos to them” (such as Top Gun).Perhaps this dichotomy between his cultured and “fraternity boy” sides is a further manifestation of his “flip-floppiness”?So the choice for Americans might come down to the following: Who do you want running your country: A realist who believes that war is justified for getting rid of the bad guys, or a more cultured escapist who may romanticize that the bad guys aren’t so bad after all?

  1. They got this from the mention of “Fellini movies?” Yeah, right: Obviously that means he’s better traveled and better educated. Couldn’t possibly mean he’s just a snooty Nancy-boy trying to sound cultured.

[Kerry] likes those movies that have a “very gung-ho, fraternity-boy, straight white masculine ethos to them”

Uh huh. That’s how I’d describe an alleged man who claims National Velvet as one of his favorite movies.

What’s next? Drawing conclusions about their respective foreign policies based on their favorite foods? How about handwriting analysis? Shall we call in a Phrenologist to feel the bumps on their heads?

    fekt!

The twits at the BBC should have something better to occupy their time than manufacturing political analysis out of useless trivia.
