I can’t recall the last time that ANZAC day and Memorial Day fell on consecutive days. But that is precisely what is occurring this year.
For those of you not entirely sure what I am talking about, ANZAC Day is the day that Australians and New Zealanders commemorate the deaths of their soldiers at Gallipoli during WWI. Memorial Day is the day that Israelis commemorate the deaths of all of the Israeli soldiers killed in wars since the establishment of the state of Israel.
As an Australian and an Israeli, both days are significant for me. I remember all of those brave soldiers who fought for my freedom. And I appreciate those who continue to fight for my freedom.
And while on the subject of courage and heroism, I should point to this sad but inspiring story.
