Sydney student Sef Gonzales was today found guilty of stabbing his parents and teenage sister to death in their family home.
A jury deliberated for more than four hours over two days before early this afternoon finding the 23-year-old guilty of murdering Teddy and Mary Loiva, and 18-year-old Clodine.
The bodies of the 46-year-old solicitor, his 43-year-old wife, and their daughter were found in the family’s North Ryde home on July 10, 2001.
Gonzales had raised the alarm that night.
Today he put his head in his hands as the verdict was read out in the NSW Supreme Court following a six-week trial.
One of his aunts in the public gallery mouthed “thank you” at the media, while another broke down in tears.
Gonzales had pleaded not guilty to the murders, telling the court he was with a prostitute that night.
But crown prosecutor Mark Tedeschi QC said Gonzales had created a litany of lies to cover his tracks.
