I have been here in Germany for a little over three days now, and I have already missed two earthquakes in Israel.
One was an actual, physical earthquake, which, while measuring only 4.7 on the Richter scale, did provide inspiration for a classic, if not slightly corny, comment from Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin.
Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin issued the following response: “The Knesset suffers from shocks on a daily basis. Yesterday it was ISA Chief Avi Dichter and today it’s Richter”.
Well crafted, Rueven.
However, the real earthquake in the Knesset was yet to come. Yosef Paritzsky, a senior minister from the Shinui party, has been caught red-handed trying to frame a party colleague and fellow minister. Needless to say, he is about to be fired (or will himself resign). And so far, there is no evidence that he will try to avoid the inevitable.
Allison has been following this story for longer than me, and has some interesting thoughts, so I will direct you to her take on events. And, interestingly enough, she quotes none other than Reuven Rivlin, who made another classic comment.
Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin (Likud) said “I didn’t believe when I saw the report on television. Politics makes otherwise reasonable people lose their minds.”

Meanwhile, here in Germany the big scandal is that is raining and cold, even though it is Summer.
