The Roman Catholic church is reeling over yet more revelations of priests doing particularly unholy things. And the situation is not being helped by spokesmen who seem to have a penchant for swallowing their feet.
A vast cache of child pornography and photos of young priests having sex has been discovered at a Roman Catholic seminary, officials said Monday, leading politicians and church leaders to demand a criminal probe and the resignation of the bishop in charge.
Bishop Kurt Krenn, who oversees the diocese, refused to step down, however, dismissing the images as a “childish prank.”
A poor choice of words in the circumstances, I would have thought.
But Krenn is versatile. He is also adept at the art of understatement.
Krenn, 68, issued a statement calling the accusations groundless while conceding that he “may have made some wrong personnel decisions” at the seminary.
If I was the Church, I would be putting this man out to pasture. And these Bishops are not helping matters either:
The Austrian Bishops Conference issued a statement pledging a full and swift internal investigation.
“Anything that has to do with the practice of homosexuality or pornography has no place at a seminary for priests,” it said.
So according to these Bishops, the problem here is homosexuality and pornography. But child sex is fine?
I am assuming that the Church wishes these Bishops had taken a vow of silence.
